Oh my goodness, what a store. My High-5's to 10,000 Hz Records for: That Name - I'm a fool for abstract record store names, but with a meaning (Ella Guru, Rooky Ricardo, Strange Stairway). I started to Google 10,000 Hz, but naw... I don't really want to know what all it means. I like mystery. It sounds like energy. Opened in 2018 - how is this a plus? Anybody opening a record store in this millenium is, in my experience, a true believer. They love it so much they refuse to be dissuaded by phone-streamers and downloaders. They're doing it because they believe. Sweet, Varied Spaces - Two nice rooms in the shop, and a few steps between them, enhancing a feeling of being in somebody's cool house. (I'd like to live in a place like this) Sublime Curation - right as I walked in, found a Bobbie Gentry compilation I'd been seeking, so the mojo was good; we record store fans can tell within about a minute or 2 if a store will be good right? The owners have brought in a fantastic range of interesting new vinyl, with good used too. Badass T-Shirts - lordt, take m' money! These folks are doing merch right. For the first time ever, I splurged on not 1 but 2 different ones. One more kudos. Really nice owners - one brought over a pillow so I could browse the CDs on the floor easier. I visited this shop during my last visit to the area in early-2020 (just prior to covid hysteria). I picked up a couple of LP's during that visit. I'm interested almost solely in used vinyl. I appreciate good quality and strive to acquire good stuff. Their used section isn't huge. But, considering that Opelika/Auburn isn't a major metropolitan area, I'd consider their selection to be adequate. They seem to grade fairly; I like the fact that most used LP's are graded with a brief description of condition. I also like the fact that they have some of their higher-end items hanging on the wall. I also appreciate the fact that they segregate their audiophile and higher-end imports. They definitely had an impressive selection. I just wasn't able to find anything that really thrilled me. Their website mentions their covid-paranoia. Yep. You've gotta don a mask; they provide them at the door. I hadn't put one on in the past 6+ months. But I wanted to look around. Even though it is so 2021, I put one on and just ducked outdoors several times to get a good breath of air. Nope. I'm not a fan of masks. But it's their business. So, whatever. Overall, it was enjoyable to look around (mask notwithstanding). Their prices are reasonable. I just didn't find anything that I couldn't live without. read more

"I am from Minneapolis, and I mean, we're pretty hip! But, we don't have THIS! Drink a beer while shopping for vinyl hip!"is what I said to the guy behind the counter as I walked in to 10k HZ records one afternoon; my 9 month old daughter and husband in tow. He cracked open a Good People Muchacho for me before I went to go peruse the selection. Almost immediately I found a slew of treasures for my acquisition. Bikini Kill! Dead Kennedys! Gorillaz! Modest Mouse! All whilst Radiohead (our favorite!) was serenading my ear holes. I was in love. and dancing. and ready to go on a shopping spree. I mean, really, its a genius idea. Serve up tasty libations. Spin some good wax. Offer a sweet selection to swoon over. That's gotta translate to $$$ right? At the very least the beer is going to impair my judgement and cause at least one, if not more, of the following scenarios: A.) Spend more $ than I should because I am slightly buzzed and life is AMAZZZZING. Why not buy EVERYTHING I want? YOLO! B.) Get slightly emotional over records that are not actually that amazing because i'm buzzed, and I NEED this Devastatin' Dave, The Turntable Slave, ZIP ZAP RAP record. C.) Accidentally buy records I already have because my blood alcohol content is higher than normal and do I already have this Modest Mouse album? No. No, I don't. I need it. (Spoiler alert: I already have it) D.) Spend all my shopping money and beer and oops! I have no money for records. But...beer! What I'm getting at is this: 10,000 HZ is one of our new favorite spots in Alabama and we'll be making the trek from bumfuck nowhere into Opelika just to grab a record, a beer, and maybe a coffee from Mama Mocha's. Bonus points for having a restroom (a CLEAN restroom!) and a spot to listen to previously owned Vinyl in the back. Thanks for creating such a kickass place, Russ! We'll obviously be back. read more

i've never been to many other record store but this one by far is the best of the few i've been to. it's a welcome place with very helpful staff who even at sometimes when i would ask weird questions, would still help me. while some are more expensive then others here everything is a pretty good value for what it is. but a bit of advice, the more mainstream the artist, the more expensive the vinyl but then again that's just basic common sense. 10/10 would come again. read more

I've been to record stores all over the southeast, and none compare to the selection at 10,000 Hz. The shop is really cool in a brick building downtown, Russ is really great, the music played in the shop literally NEVER MISSES. I've bought two albums now because I heard for the first time in the shop. There is no better record store, and their online service is also top notch. read more

This is the best Record store that I have seen. Love the atmosphere and the music that plays in the background as you shop. I never thought about buying records until I kept delivering packages to this business. I have always enjoyed coming there when I have something for Russ. As many times I have been there, I finally decided to start a record collection and the owner of the store got me on the right track. Never been more satisfied. I've been to most record stores in Alabama and a lot elsewhere. 10000 hz is one of the best record stores out there and easily the best in the state. The store has it's own vibe and a nice lounging area in the back. Great smell since they burn incense that they sell in the store. They also have a solid merch selection outside of records. Nice shirts, hats, posters, books, Knick knacks, and more. If you're looking for a fantastic selection of new records, 10000 hz has your back. They also have a solid selection of used records that changes every week. The store owner, Russ, and his employees test every used record and tells you what issues they might have on the sleeve before you buy it. I personally love this because it gives me an idea of what I'm buying and how it plays. Each record is reasonably priced and there are almost never priced more than market value. Russ does a great job on the instagram to alert customers when new used records, reissues, new releases, and preorders come in. The website is also one of the best for buying vinyl. I've never had a problem with it, and the only people who have had a problem are scalpers who try to order 5+ copies of the same record so they can up charge them on Discogs. The store is locally owned and only has four employees, with two to three usually being on hand during the day, so you get to know the staff fast. Each staff member is kind and knowledgeable on the selection they have to offer and where a particular record might be at. Overall, I'd highly recommend 10000 hz to any person looking for good records in the Auburn/Opelika area. I've taken multiple friends here and they've been blown away each time. read more

Great shop! Looks uber cool with the brick walls inside and cool seating in the back room. Plus they sell beer and soda so you can enjoy a cold one as you shop! Excellent selection of both old and new vinyl with extremely fair prices! Lots of genres represented. Pop. Rock. Metal. Jazz. R&B/Soul. Country. Americana/Folk. Holiday. Soundtracks. And more. Definitely a jewel in the Auburn Opelika area!! There are NO other true record stores in the area... just booths of old crappy overpriced records at the local "antique mall" and a comic book shop that sells records that are even higher priced!! 10,000 hz Records is WAY BETTER THAN ANY OF THEM!! Even During this Covid-19 Pandemic Russ has been able to get us all the records we want, including every RSD drop, and RSD Black Friday. He's gone above and beyond with free in-town delivery, as well as shipping tons of inventory daily due to still having walk-in shopping closed for the safety of his customers. This is such a nice shop! They have done a wonderful job handling COVID-19 by making things extremely easy and seamless when ordering.
