If you know Sam then you already know how educated he is on his beers. I'm a bartender in Erie and I feel like a lot of us are drawn to his business because he genuinely takes the time to make sure you're happy and you found exactly what you're looking for. This is my go to spot for any beer I might have trouble finding elsewhere. If he doesn't have it, nobody will. The bartenders are so friendly and also very knowledgeable. My second time here and I really enjoyed the selection. After exhausting Giant Eagle limited selection, this was a nice surprise. The first time I was here a really nice woman greeted me and talked to me about the different beers. We had a nice conversation. This time a man greeted me and asked if he could help me. OH MY GOSH. This place is seriously the coolest place i have ever been to when it comes to buying beer. So in Erie you can only come to places similar to this to buy beer unlike in Buffalo where you can get been in gas stations and whatnot. Let me just say that buffalo needs a place like this and i can not wait to come back to this place! After I my friend and i finished out bottle of wine we decided to switch it up and come visit 1000 beers. before we walked in he explained to me that this place also had a bar inside and you can actually craft your own six pack out of any beer in this store! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!! We walked in and were greeted almost immediately by a younger blonde woman asking us if we needed help finding anything, she did help me find the Shocktop pretzel wheat. There were plenty of people inside sitting at the bar at 11 o'clock on a Friday night. The guy behind the bar actually recommended i try a salted caramel beer that i had that night and was very very good! Walking around the store was so overwhelming because there are so many beers to choose from! they also had the cutest dog ever inside greeting customers and it made my entire night seeing this little fluffy beer mascot! This place was super welcoming as if everyone was family and they made us feel very welcomed as well. I would come back to Erie just to visit 1000 Beers again! They have a wide selection but everything is extremely overpriced. A 6 pack of the same beer at the Six Pack House of Beer up the street is $3-4 cheaper than what they sell there. Also, don't sit down there to have a drink, because you'll get bitched at by an insane barmaiden. I had an extremely negative experience there with customer service that I have to get off my chest. I was a regular customer - emphasis on was. Cally, who normally is a bartender there, was working at night. She was always a great person to have a conversation with and I would love to bump into her outside of her workplace at other drinking establishments, such as the Plymouth or the now-closed Crooked-I. I knew her for being a sarcastic and funny person. I walked in one day and Cally demanded that I give her an HBO GO account I gave her an earlier time that I was there. After that brief encounter, another person at the bar ran me up for a six pack of Southern Tier Live and I told him I was drinking it there, as people regularly buy beer by the bottle or pack and drink it there, as that is the function of the place and because he didn't say I couldn't. She warned me not to open one of the bottles and, because I didn't know if she was being serious or not, I proceeded to open it. She seized my bottle and my six pack, threw it, ripping the handle off of it. She started screaming that I wasn't getting my beer back and said everything from a) I was high, b) I was drunk and couldn't even stand on my feet (I just worked an eight hour and stopped in, this was supposed to be where I actually would be getting drunk at), that c) I was trying to impress someone (don't flatter yourself honey--I don't give a shit, I just want my beer) and d) that they only make .30 on selling six-packs of their overpriced beer so I couldn't drink it where it was. I have seen people drinking the six-packs that they have bought on the tables they were sitting at before, so it's strange that I received this treatment. So there you have it, shittiest customer service I've ever had in my life. UPDATE: Wait, swearing in a bar? Why I never! Upon opening the beer, you demanded that opened beer and my six-pack, which I obliged. I did not say a damn thing after you did that besides that I'd like my beer that you seized from me back. Let me ask you something: what triggered the whole bar to break into silence, seizing my six back and then going on a seventy second rant about my alleged inebriation and use of illegal drugs in front of several patrons, or me being quiet and sitting there like a guilty puppy dog after having a product I purchased torn from my persons? Stop lying and trying to save face. Take responsibility for your actions. I'm not an aggressive person, and you know from our personal conversations that I get off of work at that time. Regarding Tom S.'s review: TL;DR: Were I to read this review, replacing my name with a stranger's, I would be concerned about how many claims he makes about rules he broke, yet calls the bartender for being in the wrong. State law clearly states that a bartender may refuse service to any individual. In this case, the individual in question was being unruly, disrespectful, and overtly breaking our in-house rules he had known about for many months prior. - - - - We have a very strict policy of to-go priced beer being consumed off-premises, as, unlike Tom claims, we make very little off of our to-go purchases. The night in question, he arrived with a friend. Both were very loud, were swearing loudly, and as a result, I was reluctant at all to serve them. Tom purchased a 6-pack of a Southern Tier product, and sat down at the bar. I asked him what he would like, and he opened a beer from his six-pack. As this was not his first time here, he knew very well that a) opening your own beer, and b) drinking from a to-go six-pack are absolutely not allowed under any circumstances. I repeatedly told him he could purchase a single from our cooler at the in-house price, but rather, he taunted me with his beer, making rude comments, and generally making the other patrons uncomfortable. I took his six-pack off the bar, and told him to leave. I strongly question the assertion that I "threw" his six-pack anywhere, as anyone who's simply dropped a beer knows. Due to his behavior, which was completely out of character for any of his previous visits or times I'd run across him in public, I did ask if he was high, drunk or showing off. This was a simple case of disrespect for our rules, which hardly qualifies any bartender as "insane." Regarding the HBO GO account: A few months prior to this incident, I had been talking about a television show I wanted to watch via HBO. We talked about how great of a service it was, and he said he used a friend's account. I joked that I would buy his next beer (a Green Flash IPA, at $5.00) in exchange for the account info. He gladly gave it to me in exchange. I'm not sure how I would demand log-in information from someone. read more

great spot for Erie! nice selection of beers. I've never been disappointed. I've never actually sat to have a beer here... always just made my own 6 pack to go, but I've always received great recommendations from the staff and have discovered some delicious brews thanks to them. You might pay a bit more for a six pack, but you'll get beers you likely won't find elsewhere in town... at least that's been the 'case' for me as an IPA lover. Definitely recommended! read more

Is there a 0 stars rating? Over priced, bizzare beer selection. Food is generic and bland. I feel safer at 3rd and Parade than in this place. Maybe I'll give it a second chance and be able to give a better review. read more
