    Small jerk chicken with rice
    Jon G.

Me and my friend decided to come here since we were staying kind of close in an Airbnb. The jerk chicken was good but I was disappointed that they didn't have any jerk sauce :( instead of coleslaw I got plantain but it only came with 1 the only reason I rate a 3 is for that, and there were a few flies in the restaurant due to the front door being open. The chicken also had toooo many bones so had to pick that out. The rice was also kind of dry but I got sauce to go with it.

You can see how mushy the rice is in this pic. Also notice how it is white jasmine rice, not long grain rice

This is by far the worst jerk chicken that I have ever had in my life - please avoid at all costs. You could name this place no. #9999 jerk and it would still be a compliment. Absolutely everything was bad about it and he did not get a single thing right. When my girlfriend and I walked in during LUNCH HOURS, first thing we noticed was (1) there was nobody inside (not a big deal) and (2) those metal trays that restaurants use to keep food warm in? they were completely empty and looked like they had not been used for a long time (there was a random loaf of bread on it, on top of some other misc. items). We decided to give it a try, and boy do we regret it. Food 0.5/5 - The food was absolutely terrible. As mentioned before, the food trays were empty during lunch hour. Oh boy that means hes cooking the food fresh right?? WRONG - the first things we heard - i kid you not - were the microwave door opening, following him microwaving our food. When we actually got the chicken, it was barely warm, and was some of the driest jerk chicken that I have ever had in my life. The peas and rice had the texture of the jasmine rice that you get at Chinese restaurants, which would be great, except thats not how peas and rice is supposed to be. We did not end up touching the rice because it also tasted terrible on top of the problems with its texture. Service 2/5 - The guy working there, presumably the owner, was pretty friendly. There was also a lady that looked like she was about to go clubbing and a little girl in the kitchen with him. The kitchen and overall store looked like it had not been cleaned for a long time, and just by walking into the store should send off red flags everywhere. Price 1/5 - As I've noted in my other reviews, when you pay for bad food, you are pretty much wasting money. It did not help that this place was a little more expensive than the average jerk chicken joint (I think it was like $12 for a large?). Complete waste of money.

Asked if I could behind the counter to see the chicken on the barbeque. :)

I just had the BEST Jerk Chicken I have ever had! We greeted by a friendly and chill guy who told as that everything was fresh and from scratch. The walls of this small restaurant has multiple pics of Bob Marley. We both ordered the a small Jerk chicken - it came with Cole slaw and peas and rice. The chicken was so tender and packed with flavour.

Medium jerk chicken with rice & peas and coleslaw

Tiny little hole in the wall with authentic jerk and curry. Three of us shared a medium jerk chicken w/rice & peas and coleslaw, a small curry chicken with white rice as well as a small ackee and salt fish. We couldn't finish it- plenty left over for one more meal/person. Don't let the tiny place make you walk/drive by, stop and enjoy the food.

All natural in Jamaican Chinese tradition!

The flavour of the jerk chicken is good but it's too dry. Disappointed. Good portions but needs some moisture.

I decided to drop by on Saturday, just after noon. It's in a fairly dumpy strip mall on Eglinton Avenue East, just west of Brimley Road, in Scarborough. There is plenty of parking. I parked fairly close to the entrance. A car was illegally parked in front of the business next to Aunt Elsie's. I don't get why folks need to do that when there are so many parking spots. Aunt Elsie's looks like a tiny convenience store from the outside, but looks are deceiving. It's also a small Jamaican grocery store that doubles as a takeout eatery. I was not expecting such an amazing place. I simply wanted patties! I found the Grace jerk chicken patties. They came in mild and hot flavours. I always go with mild when I'm not familiar with how spicy items can be. There are also Allan's and Michidean patties. You know that you are at a decent place. Although I felt like Ms Pac-Man as I moved around a small space with a bunch of folks while trying to physically distance, I looked at all the condiments and spices. This place uses space wisely. The wall of condiments and spices is impressive. I also looked longingly at the chilli peppers. They looked pretty and deadly! The hot foods counter blew me away. You can't help but gawk at all the yummy food options, from various fried fish, to jerk chicken and curry goat while you are in line to pay for your items. I took one look at the salt fish fritters and knew that I needed to try them. I got two. Note to self: Get the oxtail dinner next time. Get more hot items after that. I had a lovely, sweet woman behind the counter get my fritters and cash me out. I paid using my debit card. She also bagged my goodies. I thanked her and wished her a lovely day. The customers at this store are friendly. I loved the vibe. They were courteous and nice, which I'm not necessarily used to in my neck of the woods! I was still full from breakfast. However, I made room to consume a salt fish fritter in my car before I continued running errands. OMG! It was so flavourful. The fish was salted, but not to the point where you feel like you need to down a litre of your favourite beverage afterwards. It was seasoned perfectly. I think that there was garlic, onion, and red pepper, at least. So good! I have such a weakness for fritters and I'm glad that I caved here. I heated up a jerk chicken patty for breakfast (hey, why not?) this morning. It does have a spice kick that is more than what you'd typically expect from an item that is labelled mild. Highly yummy. The filling is flavourful and the dough part was perfect. Each patty is individually wrapped to preserve freshness. A box is $5.90. I love them! Aunt Elsie's was such a terrific find. If you want to order hot food in advance, this eatery is on Uber Eats. Otherwise, you can call ahead. (396)

In a strip mall, this grocery and hot food shop had the greatest staff ever. So friendly and welcoming it was like going to someone's home. The man was so excited to hear that we came all the way from downtown to try their food! We ordered a jerk chicken, oxtail, and stew beef. All came with peas and rice and slaw. Oxtail is always my go-to and this one didn't disappoint. We enjoyed everything. I wanted to give the full 5 stars but I have to say, I was missing the heat. That might've been on us for not asking for pepper sauce.

We had the jerk chicken with rice and peas, snapper with brown stew veggies and rice, stuffed oxtail patty...EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! Jerk chicken was tender, full of flavor- great spices with the perfect balance of heat that was experienced throughout the bite, not just on the skin. The Snapper was cooked to order (30 minute wait). Tender, great flavor, not too many bones. Even the fish gravy was made to order as when I asked for more they had to make it. Deliciously worth the wait. The STUFFED OXTAIL PATTY was the star of the show. When they say stuffed, they mean it! This beauty is a creative love song in your mouth that your stomach will thank you for. It's buttery, soft, flaky, flavorful, fatty in the best oxtail kinda ways, and just....YES! You didn't know you needed this in your life but your welcome. This menu item can be a meal that stands on its own as I could only get through half of it as a side. Service was good. Just one young lady at the register holding down two long lines alone. One for the order and payment, and the other for pick up. She did well navigating high demand and customer satisfaction. Tip: Get extra gravy- we got extra oxtail, jerk, and fish and used it. Ambiance is mom & pop. You can eat there, or take it to go. Most people grabbed there's to go. Had we eaten ours there we probably would've ended up doubling our order and waistline. Well... in my Arnold Terminator voice, "I'll Be Back!"

All of the oxtail shredded meat, the cheese, the slaw, and the patty all perfectly come together into a very hearty meal. For its price, it is very filling and extremely tasty. The other thing we had was the Large Jerk Chicken meal. The Jerk Chicken was how I personally would want it. Not too hot, not too salty, not burnt, and spiced just right. The rice & beans proportion to the protein was just a little more than what I would prefer, but it is not a big issue. There was also a piece of bread that we had along with the meal which I enjoyed having. It was tasy and soft bread that perfectly acts to refresh the palate so we can go for another bite out of the Jerk Chicken or the Oxtail patty. What was a little letdown was that the place was a little small and not really primarily setup to accommodate a lot of indoor dining. There was no washroom or at least a place to wash hands. Service was also just alright. It was not bad, but just not among the best service standards that I know. You would need to come in with a lot of patience in waiting to order and waiting for the food to be ready to serve. Between taking orders, the person over the counter would also be occasionally be on the phone answering call inquiries.

I was in my old neighbourhood of the Beaches today to pick up an order. I got there a bit early. I decided to check out other business around this block and found Yamz. It was the perfect place to get some Caribbean food. I walked in. It was just before 4 pm. It allowed me to take a look at the menu. There was a bell on the counter. I didn't use it. A nice man in the back came over to greet me. I said hi and asked how he was. He was great and looked genuinely happy to see me. I wanted the oxtail meal. He showed me two box sizes for me to select. I went with a large. The yellow menu says that it's only one size. The white menu on the side wall seems to be. Ore current. I like the size options. I also got a side order of plantains. He let me know that they take five minutes to make them to order. I was good with it and said to take his time. There are seat sto sit down and enjoy your food and drinks. I was doing takeout, as I was still full from lunch! I sat down and created this Yelp listing and then checked in. I uploaded my photos from earlier in the day. It was nice to sit down and relax. He got a paper bag with handles and put my food in it. I was excited. I paid with a credit card. I tapped and was done. I thanked the man for everything and left with my food. After picking up my other order, I walked over to my car. I parked on Bingham Avenue, which is a residential street. You can park for free for an hour. Parking along Kingston Road is too complicated for me to keep track of! It was rush hour when I left this eatery just after 4 pm. You can't park on this street. I put my oxtail meal in an insulated bag. I ate the plantains in my car. They were so good! They were fried, but not to death. The natural sweetness came out. I had roughly ten slices. They were the best snack. I ended up driving to a parking lot closer to where I live to eat my oxtail meal, but in my car because I was now hungry. The oxtail was delicious. The oxtail was smaller, but it was easier to eat the meat off each segment. I got plenty of oxtail, which was great. The sauce was excellent. It came with rice and peas that were hearty and perfect. I also got coleslaw, which I enjoyed so much. It was crispy and yummy. What a fabulous find! I'd go back for more and to support this man who put a lot of love and care into his food. (450)
