This review is based mainly on the functionality of the website and their hidden pricing tactics. I'm writing this so others can avoid the mistake I made and be better informed consumers (see pics for pricing). I needed to get rid of a couch. It's an L-shaped 'sectional' couch in the sense it has two pieces that slide together. However, it is overall not too big (both pieces approx 6 feet long by 3 feet wide). It's made of run of the mill fabric and all cushions and pills are removable. It's incredibly light weight. Options I considered were Facebook marketplace, donating to Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity, or a junk removal service. I didn't want to deal with strangers on Facebook marketplace, so figured I'd save that for last resort. Donating to Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity seemed like the best idea. However, the Habitat for Humanity website is rather difficult to navigate and I struggled to find an easy way to schedule a pick up. Salvation Army offers a pick up service, but they only come on Fridays (in my area) and there's no timeframe given. Thus, I found myself on the 1-800-GOT-JUNK website which has several problems of its own. The biggest, though, is the lack of transparent pricing. After following some links saying I could get a quote by entering basic information, I was surprised to find out that instead of receiving a quote online, I had actually booked an in-person appointment. This seemed incredibly misleading, but I figured might as well have them come out, that way they are already here and can take the couch. Looking back, this is exactly what their marketing scheme is because it's a lot harder to tell someone "no" in person, when they are standing there willing to haul something away. I did end up getting a coupon via email, and added that to my appointment. However, on the day of the appointment I was told the coupon was not valid because of the fine print, which states "Valid for participating franchises only. Offer not valid on standard item pricing or minimum loads. No cash value. Cannot be combined with any other promotion. Not applicable to booked or scheduled jobs." The key part is 'offer not valid on standard item pricing,' which apparently removal of a couch is consider to be part of their standard item pricing. Welp folks, it costs a lot more than you could imagine to get "junk" hauled away. Because my couch has two pieces and is therefore a 'sectional', the price was $238. The crazy thing about this is that for an individual couch, the removal fee is $109. That's right, you could have 2 separate couches removed for a cheaper price than 1 two-piece sectional. I pointed this out to the employees who came and they agreed it seemed silly. I even asked if they would consider my two sectional pieces as two individual couches to save some money, but that didn't work. I understand that some "sectionals" may have more than 2 pieces, might be made of leather, with potentially reclining seat features that make it incredibly heavy. For that, I would understand charging more than two individual couches. But it just seemed astronomical for how small and lightweight my couch was. The most frustrating part is that I fell for their hidden price, on-site quote tactics and ended up just saying screw it, they're already here and can take my item right now, so I succumbed to the $238 fee. But, the rest of the day I had a huge pit in my stomach realizing how much I had spent to remove a couch. Am I glad the couch is gone? Yes. Do I feel like I got absolutely fleeced? Also yes. Would I ever use 1-800-GOT-JUNK again? Absolutely not, I'd rather take my chances leaving my item near an alley dumpster. If I had it to do over, I would rent a U-haul and take it to a donation center myself, as this would have been way cheaper. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1 is because the employees were extremely friendly and respectful. They communicated well leading up to and on the day of my appointment. I hope this review helps others, and at the very least, allows others to be informed of their prices via the uploaded pictures. read more

Sometimes repairing something around the house results in a new project. In my case, having work done on my garage necessitated making a portion of it accessible. As a 1.5 car garage, that .5 is taken up by outdoor furniture and misc items. After today, a lot of the misc items are gone. I filled out the online form and was very specific about the items I needed gone. Within minutes I received a phone call from Ryan to confirm my appointment. He explained I'd get a phone call about 20 minutes beforehand and asked if I had availability before the appointment in case they were early. I received a text about 30 minutes beforehand and then received a phone call from one of the hauling staff about 10 minutes later. Upon arrival, I showed Caleb which items needed to be removed and was shown the price sheet. At that point, the second gentleman showed up in his truck. I didn't feel pressure to say yes. I honestly had no idea what the cost would be. I assumed it would be less than hiring a dumpster for the day and trying to do it myself. Or hiring a dumpster and day labor for an hour. It was on the low end of what I'd budgeted/thought it would be so I was happy with the $258 price. The broken lawn furniture, the drywall, etc was all gone in 45 minutes. Great experience with this business and the best customer service in years. Manager called to tell me ahead of time that the team was running late for my appt window. They then called in route to give me the updated arrival time. The onsite team was polite, professional and worked quickly. The whole process could not have been easier and the price was fair. Pricing is unreasonably high. $800+ to have a 3-pc sectional sleeper and a couch removed. How do they determine their price range? Literally, by an eyeball estimate, how much space your "junk" takes up the space of their truck! (ie. full, half, or third). Argumentatively, I would not agree with him, that my sectional & small couch would take up 3/4 or more space of the truck. At the most, I would say half! I was not about to drop over $800 to get rid of an old couch and 3 pc sectional sleeper. I asked for a breakdown price for each and was quoted $650 for the sectional and $200 for a small (1pc) couch. Everything this company promises is a lie Everything this company promises in the Columbus, OH area is a lie. - they will quote you a price over the phone and try to increase it significantly when they arrive - they claim they "sweep up" after moving the items out but they don't. In fact, they'll dent your drywall, doors, scratch your floors and driveway but will get very angry if you point it out - they DO NOT RECYCLE OR DONATE the items you have which is the sole reason I even chose this company. Instead, they'll deliberately destroy the furniture, dishes, toys, framed prints, etc by throwing them into the truck. We are moving and had 22 years of items to get rid of. We threw out everything that was unusable, broken, old papers, etc. before contacting 1-800-got-junk. We chose them over other similar services because they claim to sort through the items and donate/recycle anything that's usable. So we packaged up everything carefully, labeling items that were glass, framed art prints, toys in excellent condition with all the parts, books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl records, dishes, pots & pans, garden tools and furniture in good condition. Normally we would have donated these items to local charities but due to the short amount of time we have to get our home on the market, we called this company. They told us that they charge by the amount of truck space your items take up and they quoted the highest amount would be $638 for a full truck. We agreed to a full truck and that price, stating anything that didn't fit, we'd take care of ourselves. They also said they'd sweep up after they were done and would recycle/donate any useful items. When they arrived on Thursday, October 13th they had TWO trucks! One was 3/4 full and the other had a refrigerator in it. They told us we'd be paying for 1 and 1/2 trucks because "we don't get to tell them how many trucks they use". I told them I don't care how many trucks they use, but I am only paying for ONE empty truck, as agreed. The audacity of showing up with other people's junk, that they've already been paid for by those other people & trying to charge us for that AND our own stuff is a huge red flag. The main guy began sulking and literally destroyed the furniture we had by tossing it as hard as possible into the truck. They don't pack the trucks neatly to provide more space, they toss everything in & charge you more (or try to). We had 1/2 a garage full (one layer) of usable items, a pickup truck amount of yard junk and 15 trash bags full of clothing, linens, toys, household items, working Xbox, Playstation, games, DVDs, CDs, kitchenware, small appliances and a few boxes with framed art prints. All destroyed. They threw everything into the truck, glass breaking & it's clear it was all headed to the dump. Sulky guy (I will update with his name later) was on the phone with his boss after I called to complain about the pricing scam and he was told we'd only be paying what was agreed. When they were finished, they left. No sweeping up, no checking if we were satisfied and, sadly for the other guy who just did what he was told, no tip. Kyle was supposed to call us about our complaint, but he did not return our call. The local "corporate" manager - Rob Mitchell - laughed when we called to complain about the deceptive pricing, the broken items and lack of service, basically saying he couldn't care less. Thankfully I paid with Amex so I'll be disputing this breach of contract. In a day when we're told to care about the climate & environment, companies who do this should be fined heartily for taking perfectly good items that could be donated & sold to help others and filling our landfills with it. The reason we are giving them one star instead of no stars is because the first experience we had with them was great, but the second experience was so horrendous and over-the-top ridiculous that it completely overshadowed our first experience. On July 27, 2024 a team came out and when they showed us the prices, we were floored by how much they charge, but we needed the items removed so we agreed to the 3/4 truck price of $578. The guys were professional and efficient and hauled things from the basement without any complaints. They organized things in the truck to maximize the space, and for that we were grateful. It was such a wonderful experience that we scheduled for an additional service thinking it would be like the first experience. How wrong we were! We scheduled to have another round of items removed on Friday, August 9, 2024 and I can honestly say it was one of the worst experiences we've ever had! This was a different pair of men that showed up and as soon as they got out of the truck, we could tell by their countenance and attitude that they didn't want to work, and they didn't want to be there. They went to our basement where we had everything organized in the center of the basement to make it easier to see what needed to be removed. As soon as the guys saw the items they started sighing, rolling their eyes, and one said " this is a lot of stuff and we will have to charge you $100 more per hour because we can only carry one thing at a time." I told him the two guys that came on July 27 carried multiple items at a time, didn't complain, and had a positive attitude. The other guy chimed in and said. " We can only carry one item because we have to go up the steps." What? I asked them why couldn't they stack a smaller box on top of the small cooler and carry that at the same time and they said, "We don't want to hurt ourselves " We could tell they were just lazy and didn't want to do the job so I called the manager and spoke with Bernard and I told him how negative and lazy they seemed. Bernard was trying to convince me the guys aren't lazy and then another manager jumped on the call named Jeff ( but he was a different Jeff than the frsti manager named Jeff who orchestrated the first two guys that came out on July 27) This second Jeff that I spoke to on August 9 was so rude and hateful! He talked all over me, he was extremely argumentative and wanted to plead their case and try to convince me that the two guys that were presently at our home we're not lazy and we're two of his best workers. I corrected him and told him two of their best workers came out on July 27, but these two that arrived today on August 9 were polar opposite from the first two guys that came out in July. The manager was not receptive, and I told him I was not gonna pay to argue with him and that they can be dismissed because I was not going to play the game of having them be lazy and carry one item at a time and run down the clock for an hour and then charge us an extra $100 per hour just so they can take their own sweet time. The manager was so annoyed that I understood the game they were trying to play and I went outside and told the two men they clearly didn't want to do the job so they could go ahead and leave. After they left, I called and spoke with Bernard and asked if he could schedule for the first two guys that came out in July to come back out at a later date and he checked the schedule and said they would be available the very next day on August 10 and that he could send them out but then that nasty hateful Manager, who I call Jeff #2 was on the line and interrupted Bernard and said that since we thought the crew that just left was lazy and didn't want to work that they would no longer be servicing us and for us to find another company. What manager in their right mind, steers customers away to the competition all because their ego is bruised? I called Jeff #1 who again was the manager for the guys that came out in July and he apologized for our experience and said he would let upper management know what happened. In the meantime, we called customer service and filed a complaint and was given a case number. Those two lazy slugs that came out on Friday, August 9 and their hateful manager completely soured our experience with 1-800- got junk. We will NOT pay their exorbitant prices for negative, lazy, argumentative behavior. Amazing Professional Friendly service, I'd seen their trucks around town, seen their adverts in print and TV but today was my first experience with this company and I can say it took a huge load off my shoulders and out of my life. I booked a day ahead from their easy to use and straightforward website and received a confirmation call the evening before their on-time scheduled arrival window the next day. The driver called me 30 minutes before they arrived and once again when they reached my location. Two uniformed gents introduced themselves and then the process started as they advertise. I pointed out what need to go, they provided a estimate based on load size, this price included everything, time/labor/fuel/dumping fees. Plus everything is taken to their facility where it is sorted for recyclables and re-use donations before anything goes to the landfill. While this service was not the cheapest alternative for hauling out a lifetime of junk it was worth every penny as they quickly and cleanly removed everything within 45 minutes and a full Truck and 1/6 load later (was originally quoted a truck and half price so Kudos to the Dudes for getting it done right and cheaper). A second truck was needed, quickly dispatched while they were still loading the first and it quickly finished the job. They accept, cash, checks or can quickly process Credit cards after finishing the job. Truly 5 star service in my book... Bonus: If you book a day ahead online you can score $10 bucks off your bill. read more

Amazing experience front to back! Scheduled 1800JUNK to remove leftover furniture and shelving from an office move. After re-locating our office last winter, we were left with a smattering of random furniture, partial tables, and other equipment. Charles came out to give an estimate and figured we could load everything into two trucks. I was also given the assurance that if the loads came out to less than that, the price would come down. Charles was great about following up and checking in until I got the approval needed to book, and was always available by phone or email. On the day of scheduled removal the team that came out removed things still attached to walls, took apart cubicle walls, and removed old shelving to help clear out our old space before turning over the keys. The staff was quick and professional and knowing that some of it will be recycled or reused in the future was awesome, since we couldn't sell it. If I ever need this for my own personal use I'll definitely book these guys! read more

I had an issue with the company Best Buy uses to deliver appliances. They refused to haul away our old refrigerator, which meant they couldn't install new. I was stuck with two refrigerators sitting in my kitchen. I called 1800gotjunk and they were at my house within an hour to haul away old appliance. The delivery window was only 2 hours (compared to 6 from Best Buy). They were in and out of the house quickly with no issues. Now my husband can install our new refrigerator. Its been a while since I wanted to get rid of junk from my Basement, Garage and Back Yard. I called Got Junk and explained what I wanted removed. I was informed that they would come out and give me a FREE Estimate. They asked if I was happy with the Estimate would I let them proceed. This was acceptable to me. The Technicians called about 20 minutes before the Scheduled time to let me know they would be about 30 minutes late. They were finishing a previous job that ran over. This was OK with me and I thanked them for keeping me informed. They arrived and it was only 15 minutes after the original set time. They introduced themselves (Rob and Lamont) and asked to see what and from where did I want things removed. I explained there were only a few items that must be removed but also showed them everything that I would like removed. After viewing the items Rob handed me a laminated sheet with the pricing. The amount of stuff would be between 1/2 and 3/4 a truck. I had a price limit and we agreed on a price. They started working and never complained or gave any indication that they were unhappy once they got started. Their facial expressions remained normal and I was impressed with their Professionalism. I did find a few more items and asked if the price would change and they said the quote was still valid. Items that they removed were an Old Treadmill, an Old Desk, an Old Computer desk and Hutch, an Old heavy TV, an Old swing set and an Old Grill. There were other items from my garage as well. They were here about 2 hours and I couldn't been more pleased with their work. Now I need to get in the Crawl Space and call for another appointment to get rid of those items. The two haulers that came were very nice and got the job done! I only gave four stars because I had to call twice, as I never received the phone call that I was promised, and I was beginning to wonder where they were. There are also a few minor scratches on my front door now, but in all fairness, it was a BEAST of an old couch and it barely budged through the front door, even after I took part of the door apart.
