Located along the main stretch of where LKF partygoers gather on D'Aguilar, Insomnia has maintained a long standing reputation as an easy destination for live music and a never ending 24 hour bar scene. The interior is quite good for all sorts of occasions. There is an outdoor area with a separate bar and an indoor area that has a massive stage equipped with lights, speakers, and mic stands. It might be the most elaborate setup I've seen for a bar at this size. As a result, the live music here is probably the best I've seen in LKF. The nightly Filipino cover band deserves some serious kudos. Like all things in these parts of LKF, the drinks are expensive. Average cocktail goes for 100+HKD and roughly half off during Happy Hour. The food isn't much to write about, more folks are here for the ambiance than the bites. I've been here when it was both dead with no one inside and packed to the gills (typically the weekend). When it's crowded, this place is extremely hit or miss. There is only so much body bumping and middle aged people dancing awkwardly that one can take. When the weeknight crowd is light, this is a fantastic place to chill and appreciate some quality music. Service is somewhere between fast / efficient to terribly mean. The Filipino staff is courteous, but they can get feisty with the drunkards at the bar. Beware of the whack men's room, the urine odor is on full blast at night. Staying in the back has its drawbacks. At the very least the intense air conditioning and high energy performances from the band make checking this place out a worthy cause. I wish I could say the same for the rest of LKF.

It's not hard to find but it may take you quite a while to decide where to go when you arrive the building. Well, see and follow the people. We all know a good club needs people, you don't want the place to be extremely empty and quiet, do you? You can always see a queue by the door at Play during weekends, especially after midnight. Now, you know where to go. The bouncers are normally very friendly and welcoming but not when the club is crazily busy. So, my advice is to get a table. When you reserve a table before going, you can easily enter without queuing and not to mention, you can simply skip the tedious ID check. Play is not insanely huge, like Magnum, which occupies 3 floors or Dragon-I but not as tiny as Drop or 7 Heaven. It's basically separated into two areas, one for pool and the other for the rest of the party animals! Once you enter the club by going up the escalator, you will find siding doors at the opposite side of the dance floor, that's where the pools are and the relatively cosier, quieter and more private area. There are also VIP areas right next to the dance floor. Brings some friends, pop some champagnes and you can have the table for yourself. Sometimes they do drinking games on Thursday, like flip cup and beer pong, which are pretty fun. And don't miss their glow paint party, i heard it's wild and fun. I would say the general age group there is quiet young, you will meet a lot of students. The best time to go is around 12-1 and most people leave around 3-4. Way too much information above, let's go partyyyyy!

For people who like to go out, usually they end up doing one of the above. I used to hang out here quite a bit because my friends all loved it here. If you go earlier in the night (before 12), it's quite loungy, the music isn't too loud and it isn't too packed yet. You can still walk around freely. Later in the evening, Play turns into a full on night club. Dom is the name of their game, for some reason, when people go to Play, that's the drink they normally order. They have a big dance floor, making it more similar to the clubs overseas. And to go with the big dance floor, they always bring in amazing DJs. They bring in Djs that are internationally known and Djs that are known regionally. It's a nice mix up. They also throw epic parties, ie, their black light party was pretty awesome. People got uv paints to play with. Creative and very fun.

Located in the…read moreParekh House, it feels almost like an apartment complex turned lounge, overlooking the vibrant Wyndham and just a stone's throw away from Soho and Lan Kwai Fong. The drinks are solid here, but the casual, comfy vibe is what keeps me coming back. There is a small bar counter, surrounded by plush comfy sofas, and an outdoor terrace. The bartenders and Will the manager are fun and friendly, a nice alternative to the bouncer enforcer venues just a few doors down the street. The couches are comfy enough to fall asleep on, which has probably happened to folks who've had one too many to drink. Happy Hours are only weekdays here from 6pm-9pm, which are ideal primetime drinking hours. Weekends are much busier here, but still quieter than most of the ground level drinking holes on the street. Fancy a drink earlier in the week? Good news is the cocktails are 2-for-1 on Mondays and Tuesdays. I usually grab myself a whisky based drink or one of their less sweet cocktails and chat along the terrace while enjoying the view and good company. There are some days where I'd rather come and relax before / after embarking the pretentious Central scene. This is one of the few safe bets for a quality drink with an equally quality ambience.

I enjoy sharing stories and experiences with each other, kind of guilty though to realize someone has never been to LKF before, haha, hope others enjoyed the night just like me. Well, talking about Bar Six, or should be written as "Bar 6ix", as shown inside, it is nice, delicate and comfortable, which is a lounge designed bar, with two long sofa chairs placed aside as "L" shape, so plenty of space and privacy are provided. There is a smoking area outside in terrace, where you can sit on high chair to enjoy whiskey and cigar. The view is not very attractive but sitting tall outside in concrete jungle is always enjoyable. More than that, Will, the manager and his team are super friendly and cheerful, they recommended different cocktails, came around all the time to make sure the drinks were good, taught the girls magical tricks -burn your finger with fire, haha, which was a really cool lesson before we left with big smiles. Btw, Kevin, we called you to get another drink but you didn't answer, haha, next time maybe!

We automatically went up the elevator and into the club. The club was pretty happening! It was Monopoly theme night. Everyone has champagne, the DJ was just killing it on the stage. All the girls were dancing, and they had special girls dressing gold dresses walking around too. Fun and games, but then the police showed up. Everything was on hold for 30 minutes while the police officers question everyone whether they were in the country legally or not. So all of the police officers we're standing there making sure that no one leaves the club. And all of the workers and DJs were telling everyone to keep their mouth shut so the police can do their work. Just kept yelling at us! Then the police finish their job, and I guess they didn't find anyone that were illegal, so they left. Then everything went back to normal, we started all dancing and drinking again. It was a pretty crazy night, and I had to make sure that I leave by certain time so I can catch the train back to the hotel. Fun club, but I think it would be expensive to go by myself or with a group. And I don't really want to wait in line.

I had no serious intention of hitting much of anything up in this area, but some bouncers outside grabbed us and told us to head up the elevator and have a look. It was early and we chilled in the Hip hop room upstairs. Music was on point and it was a fun crowd and the bartenders worked fast. It smoked the other club I stopped by last trip Ce La Vi which by comparison was much more touristy and contrived. I think it is somewhat members only, with Memberships running around 30,000 HKD. Once this place started going, after a few fun hours in the hip hop room, the main room was packed, sound system was solid. Much more bottle centric then maybe I would have liked but still nice. Reminds me of another favorite of mine, Elektro in Taipei. I'm in HK again in May. I'm sure I'll run my delegation through here Mose likely. I'm impressed.

However, It was during the week and the Lan Kwai Fong district was quieter than usual, and maybe also the fears of rioting for democracy from the locals caused this area to be even more secluded. Empty it was, but music was still blasting from the outdoor bars. My friends and I being jetlagged from the long flight wanted to hang out somewhere more quiet. And Tasmania was the favorite after bar hopping. Tasmania plays loud Western music too. Yes, some hip hop but mainly pop. We were greeted at the door by security and the hostess who took us upstairs. A bit on the dark side, but beautiful lighting very fitting to its ambiance. There was two bars, couches, and ping pong tables! Cool... I wanted to play, but the wait was long. Fine, we sat on the couch and got table service. The drinks menu wasn't huge, but good enough. A good variety of mixed cocktails. I had my Moscow Mule. A little weak on the alcohol side, as it was mostly ice and ginger soda. Oh well, it's good to stay sober though as we just got off the plane and pretty much went straight to dinner then the bars with our local friends. Yes, we checked into our Airbnb prior. Lol. I like Tasmania. A very classy environment minus the noisy crowds. The drinks was a bit weak, but still had a wonderful time soaking it in with people there. Tasmania seems very international, as we saw many Europeans inside. All good! Drinks was a little more pricey than the traditional bars there. Gunbaeee!

And Tazmania is always around for you. In the crazier years, I used to come here often. Like Mondays. And Thursdays (for the ping pong every Tue/Thu), and then Fridays and maybe Saturdays too. It's always a good "buffer zone" after dinner and before you go somewhere else. It's never too quiet. Well on a Monday night it can be quiet but hey, you have the whole pool table for yourself. And it's never too crowded. They'd even raise one of the pool table overhead to spare some space for guests. You come early at 6:30pm, you can grab some of their feed buffet finger food. If you come later (like after 1am), you can just treat this place as your yet another club and pop some champagne. It's definitely on the higher end of price tag. But it's a good strategy to keep the kids away, really. The only downfall is it closes "early" at 3am even on weekends. There were a couple of times, again, in the crazier years, where girls would check their bags to the cloakroom and forgot to get it back, when they wandered off to some other bars/clubs till a bit too late.
