This contrast has been made even further lately with the major renovations at NTP where Armani, Buberry and Bally are all present in a place where people used to come to get pots and pans. This is the reality of the new Hong Kong I guess. Shatin Centre, despite its makeover, is still the neighbourhood shopping centre with the large number of small, non-chain stores. Here you will find old shoe shops (the ones where we used buy school shoes from- if you grew up here you know what I mean), small jewelers who don't cater for oligarchs like the major chain these days. There is also a disproportionate amount of personal care product retailers here which I can only presume is a strategy of the management company. You will also find fast food joints, and just cheaper restaurants as opposed to NTP nearby. When I was younger I didn't care for such things as NTP just seemed the cooler and nicer place to be. Nowadays though, all shopping centres are identical and as such, malls with little shops like this place makes for a more special experience. You don't have to fight with tourists (as much) here because the shops here are just too low brow for them. Which is just like for a skint like me.

The mall complex is actual a string of multiple malls that are connected between tunnels and bridge walkways. It actually has an entrance to my hotel which is beyond convenient if it decides to storm or the day is beyond humid [welcome to Hong Kong] The Mall is abundant in western high end brand and considering you haven't gone broke on paying rent on this city, you can shop to your heart's desire. Try not to get lost as this mall is HUGE. [9 stories - I'm still in search of the Lush store I saw it breiflly and haven't been able to find it again. The hotel is connected to the Langham Place Mall on Level 4 via a shelter walkway across Shanghai Street. Langham Place is the largest shopping mall in Mong Kok. The 15-floor (+ 2 basement levels) mall with 180,000 sq ft of shopping space has over 200 shops and eateries, and direct access to the Mong Kok MTR in the basement level, making it very convenient to stay at the Cordis Hotel. I can't believe that the mall is already 21 years old. It still looks modern and funky. It has a 9-storey glass atrium that makes it look very airy with natural light during the day. There are many eateries and a food court on Level 4, plus many more restaurants and eateries dispersing throughout different levels of the mall. There is a long escalator going up from L4 to L8, and then another one from L8 to L12. There are also shorter escalators going up the floors after the long ones. The best strategy to browse the mall is to take either the escalators or elevators to the highest floor of the mall (supposed to be L15), and then work your way down by walking. It took me about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to do so. But it depends on whether you have something to shop for, or just browsing. I like to look at the cute things in the gift shops or toy stores. In my trip back in March, 2025, I purchased a Lulu the Pig disguised as Ne Zha. It was so cute and a great buy, it was on sale for HK$100 (US$13), down from HK$700 (US$90). However, the rest of the merchandises were at full price. We like the restaurants at the hotel, but have also tried different eateries in the mall. There are so many different cuisines to try. In our most recent trip in October, I noticed a big sign announcing that "Din Tai Fung is coming soon"! For a DTF fan like me, this is really great news. It is going to be close by Orchid Padaria Café (one of our favorite Cha Chaan Teng) on Level B2. I really look forward to dining in there when it opens! The Langham Place mall is an air-conditioned oasis in Mong Kok. It provides free WiFi, free parking, and long opening hours. It constantly attracts a lot of people. If you are not used to places with dense population, I suggest that you don't venture out there on Fridays, weekends, or any holidays, so that it would not be too overwhelming. Since my last visit here 4 years ago, much of the stores have been closed. Many of the stores now have been taken over by phone, computers or even food stalls. I even saw one of stores were now an adult toy store, which is a very weird place to be. There are still plenty of choices to chose from, there were many businesses that have switch over to toys as well. I am both a toy and video game geek, so I was very happy. Unlike some of the other specialize areas of shopping in HK, like the computer shopping area has buildings and blocks having the same stuff. The Oriental 188 is very isolated, they do have one building fill with games and stuff, but nothing surrounding it. So if you are looking for a game hunting adventure that would last ALL day, you may be slightly disappointed. If not, fantastic place to go to.

I went to get it the next day as they were to fix the glass and they were closed. They stayed closed for 2 days until they knew I was leaving Hong Kong. They STILL have my phone TWO months later and refuse to mail it to me, they laughed and said I should fly back to Hong Kong to get it as they were not spending money to ship phones. I even gave them my credit card number so I would pay for it -- and they have every excuse not to send it. Lamp Pui is the owner and she is impossible to deal with. She plays games, like blocking me from WhatsApp, not answering her phone or playing games on email. I just got the police involved and hope she gets arrested. DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING TO IMPRESSION DIGITAL AND LAMP PUI. (BTW: They didn't even fix the glass as the owner LAMP PUI claimed she "didn't know how to fix it.") BEWARE!

I was not that hungry when I came, so I couldn't indulge in as many foods as I wanted to. If I had more stomach space, I would have definitely fit in some of the many bevs on offer and maybe even ice cream. But they don't only have food. They also sell random products that you could typically find in residential HK malls like clothes, accessories, cute merch, etc. I found some really adorable Sanrio red envelopes here! This place is kind of like a maze and it's easy to get lost in. My sister and I separated here and we ended up going home without the other because that was easier than trying to find each other again. The third floor has some benches circling the escalators area, but they're usually all taken. I was really tired from walking, and I would've stayed longer if I was able to sit and rest for a small break. The one star off is for the lack of sitting areas, confusing layout, and honestly could use a facelift. I would come back again to do a proper food crawl, but I'll probably bring my portable chair.

The inside of the mall looks absolutely stunning, all slick and clean, modern design integrated across all the floors. We explored the mall over half an hour, floor by floor. As I was trying to get my student card ready, I was in Mong Kok trying to find that place but I ended up getting lost somewhere and had to resort to ask for help. The way he told me where that was made it sound like everyone knew where Argyle Centre was. Well, not for me. I seriously had no idea where that was. I just kept asking everyone along the way. Thankfully I made it. Turns out Argyle Centre is one of those malls for teens. I realized that teenage girls love coming here and I can tell by the number of people in this tiny little small here. You can see all kind of shops and I seriously do not think that any guys would come here as most shops here sell heels, accessories, dresses and basically women's stuff. So to be honest, I was literally the odd man out surrounded by all those girls. Anyway, the stuff here is extremely cheap. Well normally for guys, my shirt alone would cost me a few hundreds, but here a dress only costs around HKD$50. Wow! Are you serious? Well, design and taste aside... you can still buy lots of cheap stuff here. However, I believe everyone knows this place better than I do. I am so ashamed to call myself a local at this point. So if you are looking for decent clothes at a cheaper price, come here then.

And I can't stress this enough - we're talking earrings for $10, shorts for $30 kind of cheap! Argyle Center is about a five minutes' walk from the MTR station. It's pretty easy to find your way - or you could just follow that group of teenagers in front of you because that's probably the way they're heading. The variety of things at Argyle is endless. You can find anything from backpacks with huge dolls attached to them to bags appropriate for you to bring for work - that's how much choice you'll have there. The mall is obviously catered to teenagers, but I don't think anybody could possibly leave here empty handed! Don't worry, it's not just all clothes and accessories - you can also find really fun novelty items and gifts there, like drinking games sets, offensive but funny cards and prank toys. If you're a fan of Korean pop music, you'll be able to find some shops that sell Korean celebrities merchandise like badges and posters. A word of caution though: some of the things here can be pretty tacky and cheap-looking - you'll see a lot of bright t-shirts with badly spelled words that make no sense and bags with so many studs nobody should be let within a metre-radius of them. But once in a while, you'll see a decent looking sweater or a necklace that doesn't look half bad. Most shopkeepers are willing to bargain, so you can get things cheaper than they already are! If there's a defect in something you want and it's the last remaining piece, don't be afraid to ask for a discount - you'll almost definitely get one! At all costs, do NOT come on a weekend because this place will be super crowded! You won't be able to browse much because you'll be knocking elbows with others who are trying to get a close look too, and it really just isn't worth coming on a weekday. Come on a weekday because there will be significantly less people! The key to shopping at Argyle is to be patient - you'll see some seriously tacky clothes, and you'll be bumping into other people because the mall isn't huge - but persistence is key! Poke around long enough and I'm sure you'll leave with a couple of good buys!

Harbour City is a shopping complex right beside the pier overlooking Victoria Harbour and with that offers a stunning view especially in the night when the city lights come alive. Along with the customer service and a map of the mall it's pretty massive enough that we got last and couldn't find the restaurant that we intended to try though browsing around majority of the shops are high end. There's quite a bit of selections available here regardless as I enjoyed looking at a health and wellness shop and some heath and beauty items as well. A great place to eat, browse and relax or just enjoy the view Harbour City is a beautiful modern complex that offers it all. Thank you!
