A Japanese fast food chain that specialises in Italian comfort food, Saizeriya has branches sprinkled all over Hong Kong, so you're bound to find one near you. (Note: most of its branches are on the Kowloon side.)
Since I had just finished watching a movie at Causeway Bay, I chose to visit the North Point branch on Hong Kong Island yesterday evening.
That was a big mistake! I had forgotten that the North Point branch, being one of only three branches on Hong Kong Island, was frequently packed with locals during dinnertime. By the time I arrived at around 7:00 p.m., a large crowd had already formed outside the restaurant. So, remember to arrive earlier if you're like me and don't like waiting for your food!
Finally, after 30 minutes of impatient waiting, we were finally seated and all was forgotten as the smell of cheesy goodness wafted into our noses. On the menu were the usual suspects - mushroom soup, Caesar salad, carbonara pasta, but what really stood out was the Chicken Doria, a baked rice dish with tender chunks of barbecued chicken and a creamy cheese sauce to top it all off. It's rich, it's buttery and the cheese just melts in your mouth - and it was less than HK$40! Also, don't forget to add HK$12 for unlimited refills of soda, tea or coffee. It really is a bargain considering the high prices in Hong Kong!
Despite the lengthy wait time, dining at Saizeriya is always a fantastic experience as you're paying affordable prices for excellent food. Of course, don't expect the food to be Michelin-grade, nor is the service first-class, but for the price you're paying, I'd say its quite a deal!
