Thin and translucent to the point of being almost entirely transparent. The fried rice was simple but tasted great. The mapo tofu didn't have that Sichuan spicy zing to it. We, nevertheless, polished it all off. With jasmine tea on the side. Certainly a place to visit with groups, but they have little low seated tables too, if you want a date meal. Fairly quick service and I know I mentioned the language, but our server spoke English. I know I'll be visiting here again. More photos and detail on the blog - vegetarianvoyager[dot]com. Try a variety of their dim sum, hot pot and vegetable platters, because everything is tasty, organic and fresh. The first few pages of the menu show where everything is sourced from, so you know it's a priority. There are even a few desserts to round out the meal. The dining experience itself felt authentic as you can get for vegetarian Cantonese cuisine - the staff was attentive, service was efficient and the atmosphere was really pleasant. There were a few Buddhist monks having dinner there too, so that's another sure sign that you're in the right spot. Pro Tips: - Tricky to get here via Subway, best to catch a Red Taxi - Located in a multi-level shopping building, just take the elevator up!

Actually, this type of restaurants has been in existence in Hong Kong or China for hundreds of years if not more, it has a religious connection to most of these establishments as they usually are connected to a Temple or a Monastery that are either Buddhist or Taoist. Veggie Palace is categorized as a "private home kitchen" as it is officially not open to the public, all patrons has to reserve and will be contacted by them to go through menu selection. Prices are fixed, Lunch - HK$188.00 / Dinner - HK$268.00 per person Menu items are Omakase Style - as the Chef will decide what is best of the season and also according to personal taste. They will even keep a record of your past visits to make sure that the menu items you had perviously will not be repeated! Highlight items: Assorted Cold Appetizer as you can see from my photo, this has a variety of items, the centre is a mixed salad with julianne of cucumber, mushrooms, black fungus, and pomelo, it is then surrounded by veggie maki sushi roll, thousand year eggs, veggie ham etc. It is served with a light soy & vinegar based dressing, amazingly refreshing and tasty, I believe it is a signature starter that each table will get! And I am sure it will be requested even if they do not offer it in your next visit! The Mushroom & Vegetables Gyoza in Pumpkin Purée, savoury pumpkin surrounds this small package of amazing umami, the natural sweetness of the vegetables are brought to a new hight with the deep flavours of the mushrooms! Looks like a simple dish, but I am sure the Chef puts in a lot of thought and effort to make this a perfect dish!! As you can see, all the items are presented very well, and non of the dishes tasted the same! Contact them directly to make a reservation and discuss menu selection, and I am sure you will be a fan as well!!

We ordered 2 different Stone Bowl Rice set menu items. #2 with Eggplant and #4 with Lion's Head Mushroom (I believe called Lion's Mane Mushroom in the US) We liked both dishes including the accompanying Soup and appetizers. The Eggplant dish was savory without being greasy (Unlike most eggplant dishes cooked in a wok). The Lion's head Mushroom was very umami and had the texture and flavor of perfectly cooked beef cubes. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.
