Let me just start off by saying that I don't live in Cyberport, and neither do I live anywhere near Cyberport - I live in the New Territories, which is probably as far from Cyberport as you can get. That aside, the cinema at Cyberport is still one of my favorite cinemas in Hong Kong to go to.
Why? Because it's usually pretty empty, making it a great choice if you want to catch a movie on a whim or if the good seats at other cinemas are sold out. It makes sense why the cinema at Cyberport is not popular - Cyberport is hardly the most accessible location in Hong Kong, and since it's a residential and office area there isn't much reason to go there unless it's where you live or work.
My friends and I love this cinema because we're pretty last-minute people - if we're going to watch a movie, it's more likely that we decided to do so on the day itself than having decided days ago. This means that it's almost impossible to get decent seats at cinemas in Causeway Bay, like the one at Times Square or JP cinema opposite Windsor House. Craning our necks for two hours is hardly our idea of an enjoyable movie experience! But with the Cyberport cinema, you will almost definitely be able to get good seats. Check the HK Movie application and you'll see that the houses for the cinema here are always no more than 40% filled!
While it's true that Cyberport isn't very accessible, it's actually not so bad if you come from Causeway Bay. There's the 69X green minibus behind Sogo that can take you to Cyberport in fifteen minutes or less! You don't normally have to wait long for it either. Whenever I'm walking towards the minibus stop to take the 69X, there's always a minibus there just waiting for me to get on, and it starts pretty soon too! The downside is that getting the same minibus back to Causeway Bay is a little harder - there's usually quite a long line of people waiting for it.
If you're a last minute, let's-watch-a-movie-today kind of person, the cinema at Cyberport is definitely your kind of place! read more
