It's also one of my favorite places to get away from the urban hustle and bustle of Central and a great way to people watch while admiring the city. After debuting 30 years ago, the escalator has recently been undergoing renovations to meet the demand that seemingly grows each year. There are 18 escalators in total, with moving walkways that are at a slight incline. From start to finish, it's about 20 minutes and covers just about 2,600 ft with a vertical climb of 443 ft. On the outside it looks like a one-way continuous escalator, but there are multiple bisections where folks can join in from different streets or hop off along the way. The most important thing to note is that the escalators run downhill in the mornings between 6AM-10AM and then uphill from then till midnight. One serious drag is that it's not wheelchair accessible, and has stairs for people to pass or reverse direction. There are several stops along the way, which are connected to bars, restaurants, and attractions. It's always recommended to stand on the right to let folks on the right pass. It's not uncommon to see sections of it closed for maintenance and it's a great way to stay out of inclement weather.

When in TST, this should be your very FIRST PLACE to visit. Its able staff can help you plan out your visit very nicely. TST is one of the must-visit districts in Kowloon. Therefore, it's a good idea to drop by the Tourists Info in TST first before your adventures. - TST is the HOME of many modern and traditional shopping malls, heritage museums, culture centers, and various attractions such as the harbor promenade, Avenue of Stars, 1881 Heritage Complex, the Ferry to the Hong Kong island, the famous, gigantic Kowloon Park, and the famous Harbor City Mall. The Star Ferry Pier is also the bus terminal, where one can board buses to visit various major districts in Kowloon (see pic). Of course, the Ferry ride across the beautiful Victoria Harbour should be one of the highlights of visiting HK. Over the years visiting Hong Kong, I always make it a point to visit the Visitors Centre, getting up to date, useful info from them. From every visit, I learn something new and useful. She seems to just love what she is doing. She told me her mother taught her to help people and that is what she wants to do. Although this was my fourth visit to Hong Kong (I think Hong Kong is one of the greatest cities in the world) I still had several questions because things have changed drastically since I was there last in 1999. Windy gave me many tips on where to go, what to do and the best way to get there. I did everything she said and my day turned out to be absolutely fabulous. We walked to the vista point but the view was obscured by heavy fog. That was a shame because the view would have been great had it been clear. The Peak Tower building hosting the tram had many shopping opportunities as well as eateries. It was interesting to see the foods offered. We visited a souvenir shop which was packed with visitors and a bit crazy. The store accepted US dollars and credit cards. The tram ride is one of the most iconic things to do when visiting. It required tickets and the queue went quickly. The ride downhill was much quicker than going up by bus. It was well worth the cost and quite unique.

We bought our tickets on Klook to get a pass that included the Peak Tram ride as well as entry to the Sky Terrace. I think if its your first time, it's worth paying the extra few bucks to get the entire view - after all, you made it all the way up there already! There are many vendors selling trinkets and food/drinks. Cute souvenirs can be found here, although overpriced as expected. If you have visitors coming for the first time, I do think its worth the trip, but maybe you don't need to go more than once.

What a great little hike getting up to Pinewood Battery Park. Not to mention that Pinewood Battery…read morePark is a historically interesting. From HKU MTR to Battery Park took about 35-40 minutes (one way). Pinewood Battery Park is the highest of all coastal defense batteries and the sole remaining anti-aircraft battery found in Hong Kong still in Second World War era condition. Construction started in 1901, including the present day Hatton Road, it was used during WWI and WWII. Once you hoof up there, there are all sorts of historical signs and maps highlighting all the history. There are remnants of the command post, gun battery, magazine, caretakers quarters, observation post, etc. The sight itself is overgrown and you almost feel like you have stumbled onto something that Hong Kong has forgotten. I enjoyed being up there and wondering about, exploring, enjoying the quiet, learning a touch of history, getting some exercise and sunshine. I enjoyed the 35-40 minute vertical climb from HKU MTR and Pokefield Road to get there (via small steps, long steps, footpaths, walkways). The hoof up is not for the unfit those who do not like to exercise or sweat. HOW TO FIND. I am sure there are several routes you can take, but this was the route I discovered. I took the MTR to HKU. Leave the MTR to exit C1, when you exit, take the short set up steps to go out to the sidewalk and go right. You will then go UP that road. It was a bit confusing at first because when you turn right, there is a bunch of roads and crosswalks and it seems confusing. Simply know that you need to head UP Pokfulam Road, not down. As you are walking up Pokfulam Road, in about 5 minutes or so, you will see a Sinopec gas station and a bus terminal on the left. The steps you are seeking are on the left before you reach the Sinopec gas station. There is no sign, just a ton of steps going directly up. Once you get up this first set of steps that might seem daunting, the steps turn into switchbacks and the incline becomes less severe. Once you start up the steps, in about 15 minutes, you will begin to see signs and directions to the battery and also to other spots up in the hills, including the peak. Although there is an unmarked set up steps behind Chow Yei Ching Building that I came down from Pinewood Battery Park, the start of these steps is unmarked, so you simply need to know you are heading in the right direction. I would say about 10-15 minutes up, you will see signage and realize you are not lost.

It was super crowded, but it was organized that there is only one way in, and one way out. There are a lot of different section that was set up, so I stopped by each station to pay respect and pray for my wishes. Staff were friendly and available to help when needed. This temple is not only for praying, but it is also a symbol of the traditional Chinese culture. I would say this is one of the must visit spot in Hong Kong.

Visited the Peak around 8:30-10:00 p.m. after returning from Macau to catch the iconic Hong Kong…read morenight view right before an incoming typhoon. It turns out everyone else had the exact same plan, so it was extremely crowded. The views were absolutely stunning and well worth seeing, but keep in mind that waiting for the return bus late at night can take a while when crowd levels are high. Taking the bus up along Stubbs Road offers a great, scenic route to the top. Highly recommend visiting for late-night city views. Just be prepared for potential queues.

If you like outdoors and able to tolerate the humidity, I suggest walking up (takes about an hour) and take the tram down. Taxi/car is another option. If you're lazy like me, we took the tram up and down. We also didn't buy tickets in advance or Edge Observation Deck since my schedule was ever changing. It does get crowded on the weekend and during sunset hours. The tram ride is about 10 minute or so. It was quick. There are a bunch of shops, and restaurants. We were happy to see another Bakehouse up there and grab some pastries. We walked around, took lots of pictures and spent about 30-60 min here. Highly recommended.
