That being said, this station unlike most of the others is not air conditioned. On the contrary, that's not too much of a problem since this station is serviced by the Tsuen Wan Line, so trains tend to come every 2 minutes. Over the several decades that this station has been in service, ridership numbers have grown drastically as the area around the station boomed into a densely populated residential and commercial area as well as a major transit interchange offering bus services to new territories districts like Tin Shui Wai, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan, and by bus transfers, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. As a result, this station is often very busy, and having to line up very briefly to use the fare gates can be a regular occurrence. While a lot of people do board and exit the train at this station, you will more often than not be able to board the first train that arrives since the surrounding districts around Kwai Fong tend to prefer buses over the MTR, unlike the rest of the areas that this line serves. Being the transit cheapskate I am, I try to find the best possible deal for commuting, and I'm sad to say this station is not served by any $2 discount octopus card fare savers. Being someone who works in Kwai Fong but lives in Hong Kong, I went with the City Saver Card offered by the MTR, which has greatly lowered my commute costs. It can admittedly be a bit awkward to use since I'd have to find a turnstile that has a ticket slot to scan the ticket on exit, which occasionally means I get shoved by an impatient commuter standing behind me, but that definitely made my trip on the MTR much more affordable.

It's where everyone goes to shop and eat when they get tired. Plenty of fast food options. There's of course an Apple store close to the station. I make sure to visit this station due to the shopping malls. I found it insane on a Sunday morning when people were walking quickly to their destination. Or getting to other stations in the system. Even to leave Hong Kong for the day to head up to Shenzhen.

I found this station to be very convenient. I would take a bus from Ma On Shan to Sha Tin so I could travel into the city. The train station entrance is close to the bus terminal so I could easily catch the next bus back to home base. The station is also located next to two malls, Citylink Plaza and New Town Plaza. Very convenient if you are trying to get a number of shopping errands done at once. As for the station itself, I didn't find it too hectic. It is far enough out of the city that it does not get too unruly. Though when you exit at this station, it can get crowded with people taking the same escalator up. If you can handle some walking, there is a staircase further down the platform that is hardly used. As a feeder station to other parts of the New Territories, I commend the great public planning done. Particularly how short the walking distance from Sha Tin Station to the malls and the bus terminal was.

While riding the MTR I can see the nice architecture from the outside, from the inside, it seems like any other normal MTR station minus the usual daily commuter crowds. There's still helpful and friendly MTR personnel on standby during peak travel times. Everything is well marked and easy to navigate. Come on by and say hi to Mickey and Minnie Hong Kong style just make sure to have your Octopus card ready to enter and exit station!

Some will complain that it's one…read moreof the open-air stations, so it doesn't have air conditioning, but I think this station has other issues to worry about... namely the lack of modern wheelchair accessibility facilities. While most stations have been retrofitted with those automated glass elevators that most Hong Kong commuters now take for granted, Tsuen Wan station appears to still be in the queue for such a retrofit, considering how it still features those manual elevators with metal shutters that you have to pull open and closed... if I'm not mistaken, a station attendant needs to be present to operate it. Other than that, this is still a good station. You have helpful staff, lots of amenities such as ATMs bakeries and convenience stores, as well as a bunch of shopping centres that are connected to the station. There's also a bus interchange for services that travel onwards towards Yuen Long and Tuen Mun, and if you board a train here, you're pretty much guaranteed a seat on the train.

Compared to using the piers in Central and TST to go to Macau, this one has its pros and cons:…read more Pros: - it's much less chaotic than the other ones. No need to read the signs trying to figure out which terminal is your ferry's, lining up to wait-list for an earlier departure, or navigating your way among many travelers toting luggages. - with fewer passengers and a much smaller pier it's much faster to get in and out through immigration and the building. - it's much newer, and hence cleaner. Cons: - While Central has ferries as frequent as 15 mins apart, here it can be 2 or 3 hours. You really need to consult the timetable before showing up. - Departures from Tuen Mun charges a pier fee which adds $28 to each ticket, compare to other piers. - There are restaurants and a mall a short walk away but once inside the building there is hardly anything available.

Since the Macau ferry line (Turbo jet) started running late Jan 2016, this pier has made life so…read moremuch better for those traveling to Macau. Slow adjustments to the terminal have been made. It's clean, functional and even has a small cafe for you to wait at. Other ferry lines include Tai O / Tung Chung / sha Lo wan - pretty good for a one day outing with them family. The turbo jet counter service is great, same goes for almost all the people you will encounter after.
