That being said, this station unlike most of the others is not air conditioned. On the contrary, that's not too much of a problem since this station is serviced by the Tsuen Wan Line, so trains tend to come every 2 minutes. Over the several decades that this station has been in service, ridership numbers have grown drastically as the area around the station boomed into a densely populated residential and commercial area as well as a major transit interchange offering bus services to new territories districts like Tin Shui Wai, Tsing Yi, Tsuen Wan, and by bus transfers, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. As a result, this station is often very busy, and having to line up very briefly to use the fare gates can be a regular occurrence. While a lot of people do board and exit the train at this station, you will more often than not be able to board the first train that arrives since the surrounding districts around Kwai Fong tend to prefer buses over the MTR, unlike the rest of the areas that this line serves. Being the transit cheapskate I am, I try to find the best possible deal for commuting, and I'm sad to say this station is not served by any $2 discount octopus card fare savers. Being someone who works in Kwai Fong but lives in Hong Kong, I went with the City Saver Card offered by the MTR, which has greatly lowered my commute costs. It can admittedly be a bit awkward to use since I'd have to find a turnstile that has a ticket slot to scan the ticket on exit, which occasionally means I get shoved by an impatient commuter standing behind me, but that definitely made my trip on the MTR much more affordable.

The A/C worked well in the hot humid Hong Kong summer. It made frequent stops along the main thoroughfare in Yuen Long. Absolutely no complaint and enjoyed the ride - and benefited from its convenience!

But I'll be happy to accept the FTR for this MTR station! Lo Wu isn't my favorite station but it is when it involves going shopping in Shenzhen! My husband and I have now been here a couple of times via MTR and city bus. And while it's much quicker to get on the city bus for us, I still prefer just riding the rail up to Lo Wo. You may not always get a seat but standing can still beats sitting in traffic and not going anywhere...I haven't had an issue yet. Don't mind all the men and women with suitcases...they aren't going to the airport....They are SERIOUS SHOPPERS!!! So, wave that Octopus card like you just don't care and board this MTR you will either be engaged in your phone so much that the time will fly by or you can gaze out the window and see what the other side starts to look like. If you have perfected that Asian nap, well then go for it! Once you jump on...you can not get lost. AND if you do...follow the ones with suitcases. Pay attention to what line you are going to after deboarding from the MTR.

Bathrooms are clean, which is always appreciated, and the signage is clear and straightforward, especially when it comes to directions for entering China via the pedestrian bridge. For travelers visiting Hong Kong who want to do a day trip to China, or those coming from China and planning a quick day trip to Hong Kong, this station makes the process very convenient and stress free. The Octopus card is a great service, especially for tourists. They have different branches…read morethroughout Hong Kong, but I used the one at the airport when I first arrived. The card is like a debit card, except that you don't need to sign for it and they don't ask for an ID. There's a $50HK deposit that you get back when you turn the card in. You preload the card and use the card as cash. You can use it for the metro, bus, ferries, stores, fast food places, almost anywhere. You put it up to the scanner and it deducts from the card. There's no signature or ID needed. Whatever you don't use, you can get back when you turn the card in. The positive is that it's very convenient. I would just bring this card with me to the 7-11 by the hotel and just scan it. I didn't need to look for change for the bus or deal with the metro machines for transportation. The negative is that it's treated like cash, so if you lose your card you won't get your money back. I put just enough so that it would last me a few days. When the amount got low, I would deposit money at 7-11 or at the metro stops.

There is a fee for the card which is refundable upon return of the card and acts primarily as a debit for convenience stores, subways, and buses. Also, gives minor discounts from general fare and some nicer discounts for seniors. Any funds unused can be refunded back to you. You don't really need to overload it. Octopus Card reload machines are relatively easy to find in any subway station or 7-11. Was very happy that it save us time since we were a really large group using public transit and primarily a group of senior citizens so it made dealing with fees very seamless and headache free! Highly recommend.
