Our last visit to The Bay was a huge disappointment. When the bill arrived I almost fell off my chair as a range of items had been added which clearly weren't ours, resulting in an extra HKD2,200 being added on top of what should have been only a HKD3,300 bill. And the HKD3,300 included HKD1,100 as hire charges for 1 kayak and 1 paddle boat. Daylight robbery... And there was no real apology for the extra amount added - in the end I had to list all the items we had myself so a proper bill could be produced. We won't be visiting this restaurant again, nor will our friends that joined us, and we will also be advising all our other friends and family against it. Really disappointing experience. read more

The Bay is a delightful little restaurant on Lamma Island, that serves a predominantly Mediterranean menu. It is a bit of a slog to get to, you either take the ferry from Aberdeen (where the Jumbo ferry departs from) direct to Mo Tat Wan, or you walk from the other ferry piers on Lamma (but it's a cracking long walk!). The location is gorgeous though. Looking over the sea in this quiet little bay, with a glass of rose in hand - can't beat it! During the day there is sufficient shade to stay cool, and in the evenings, the sunset turns the sky a beautiful shade of red before disappearing over the side of Lamma Island. If you are here at night though, bring insect repellant - lots of it! The venue is a little grotty. The restaurant can look good at night, especially in dim lighting, but you are probably seeing where I am going with this. During the day it can feel a little grungy, especially this chunk of the dining room which is sort of a junk pile of random stuff. The toilets smell a bit funky. There are some tired looking hotel rooms upstairs that no one ever stays in. But other than that, it's nice enough! The food here is what it is all about. It's great. Big portions of lovely seafoods, meats, pastas. It borrows very heavily from the homestyle cooking, as opposed to the big plates small food style. My particular favourite is the African chicken, which is actually a Macanese dish, but I have never had it better, not even in Macau. Also good is the clams, which are big and juicy, and the grilled sea bream. It's not horribly expensive either, a meal with wine will set you back HKD300-400. My only grumble is the staff. They are a bit rubbish to be brutally honest. They used to have a manager there who was a complete pudding, but she has since left, so it may be better now. By all means go for the food and the wonderful views, but just be prepared for a bit of a battle on the service front. read more
