The shop itself is pretty small, but there was plenty of seating. The prices are average about $40 hkd/per dish. The dessert came out relatively fast we didn't have to wait too long. The dessert shop is right outside the Po Lam MTR station which is pretty convenient and I think it's a plus that they open late just so I could satisfy any late night cravings :) We ordered four items: a matcha shaved ice, a traditional taro and sweet potato dessert, a mango souffle, and a boba, coconut milk, mochi mixture. I personally thought the desserts were pretty mediocre and nothing really stood out to me.. The shaved ice was a bit bitter because of the matcha, but I guess that shows that they use actual matcha powder instead of flavoring. The sweet potato dessert was super gingery so if you're someone who doesn't really like ginger you should beware. The coconut milk dessert was too coconuty for my preference and lastly, the souffle was just a souffle. Maybe my preference are different since I am from the states, but those were my overall views of Sugar Desserts.

You'll be sitting basically elbow to elbow with strangers next and behind you. But that doesn't matter because their desserts are so wonderful! Some of my favorites are the tong yuen (glutinous rice balls) that come come with peanut sauce. The one that comes in the ginger soup is good too (for this dish, the balls have fillings inside, such as sesame or peanut sauce). Another good one is their sorbets, which are perfect for a hot day.

For the durian, this was surprisingly good! I am normally not a durian fan (the stench gets to me sometime) but here, you couldn't really smell too much of the durian in the dish. The taste of durian was also soften quite a bit, making this dish a bit more doable for those who do not like durian. I found this dish to be pretty tasty and not too sweet and it was unique to eat it with the crystal seeds. Overall, this is a great spot to stop by for desserts. If you're not a fan of durian but can tolerate the smell of it wafting through the restaurant, this place is great to try other HK desserts at an affordable price.

They warn you that it's made to order which means it'll be a 15 minute wait or so. We ordered the mango pancakes with diced mangoes, vanilla ice cream, fresh cream and what seemed to be a ground up cookie. The pancake was light, fluffy and slightly sweet. It was complimented by the diced mangoes and ice cream. It also came with a paper Michelin man and I Love You Dessert cutout which of course made everything IG worthy. I love Asian desserts because they're not that sweet and this pancake was everything I expected and more.

This was our first cafe experience on this trip to Hong Kong, and it can easily be the best one because we had a wonderful time at the cafe. We ordered one afternoon combo to share ($58 HKD). We also upgraded the combo for an additional $25 HKD and received another signature cake. We ordered a lava Earl Grey toast, a rose latte with 3D latte art (no extra charge), and a stone (a black sesame dessert with yuzu and cream filling). The toast was beautifully presented and its toasty exterior (yet somehow without a hint of being burnt) juxtaposed perfectly with its Earl Grey flavored lava. The stone dessert looked so real that I gingerly tapped its exterior, expecting some kind of hard-shelled dessert. To my surprise, despite its deceptively smooth exterior, the black sesame exterior was soft and provided no resistance to my fork. It was a nouvelle, yet well-executed, dessert. The only mild letdown from this cafe was the latte, as its rose flavor overpowered the coffee taste.
