#ThrowbackThursday - Remembering Hong Kong…read more.. Conveniently located at Nathan Road near the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, we decided to have our final meal in Hong Kong at Daikiya Japanese Restaurant. It's a very solid all-you-can-eat option with two thick notebooks of pictured items to choose from. The raw and the cooked, the fish and the meat, the meal and the dessert... Sashimi - The usual suspects abound (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc.), but they also have hokkigai (surf clam), amaebi (sweet shrimp), Hokkaido hotate (scallop), and nishin (Japanese herring with roe). Served on a bed of ice and decorated with artificial flowers, each platter was well-plated... and delicious! Nigiri - There are plenty of winners here, but let's focus on the one that topped the list - Grilled Scallop with Crab Oil and Garlic. Seared enough to give that burnt flavor, dabbed with crab oil, then topped with roasted garlic... Need I say more? This was the highlight of our meal and, yes, my younger daughter and I had this over and over and over! Worthy runners-up - Grilled Flatfish and Prawn with Black Fish Roe. Rolls - An assortment of maki (sushi roll), temaki (hand roll), gunkan-maki (ship roll), and sashimi rolls was on the menu as well, but we were able to try only a few. The Mango and Soft-Shell Crab Roll was too small and had more cucumber than anything else. There simply were better options to be had. Grilled - Surf and Turf! Shrimp, scallop, oyster, lamb chop, beef, chicken, pork, and even pineapple. The best dish was the Sautéed Diced Beef with Garlic. Perfectly seasoned and cooked medium, these beef chunks were so tender and tasty! Dessert - Gotta save room for some (or all) of these - mochi, macaron, ice cream, tiramisù, brownie, crème brûlée, fruit, nut, and so on. We indulged in their special Milk Top, which had a limit of one flavor per person. We tried the Romantic Moment and Green Tea Harmony, which had soft-serve ice cream, red bean/paste, mochi balls, jellies, and rice crispies. The only way to cap off an AYCE! After restocking on calories, we were ready to head back to the hotel and then to HKIA. Daikiya was just what the doctor ordered to fill up our bellies before leaving. We totally enjoyed our stay in Hong Kong, but we had to wrap up our adventure. It was time to say goodbye... for now...

OHHHH MYYY GOOOOD... It's one of my best meals in HK, amazing!!!! I've never been to an AYCE like…read morethis, putting Vegas buffets to shame. No wonder HK is the paradise for foodies! 1) The menu was extensive, almost overwhelming (there are 2 books), including sashimi boat, nigiri, tempura, seared fish, hand rolls, California rolls, desserts, anything you can think of! My eyes lit up when I opened the menu like I saw gold. 2) The food quality was very good for the price we paid. Everything raw was fresh and chilled and the rest were all served hot and steamy. 3) Service was super efficient and courteous too. They tried to fulfill all your requests. 4) It can be packed so book an early table. 5) You won't break your bank here to be able to enjoy a quality AYCE. We were all so full at the end. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in HK! I hope they stay in business for a while and keep the quality up! **** I heard the other locations don't taste as good so not every Daikiya is the same.

I ordered the sashimi don and the sashimi was so so - not fresh enough that was worth the price tag…read more- the uni was thoroughly disappointing- looks like its been dug up from year 1800 - fresh uni is yellow moist and soft - it was dry grey and stiff - then served concentrated guava juice after - didnt even shake the juice to mix it up before serving Service is just as bad - brought the sashimi way before the hot food - rather than syncing all the dishes to be brought to the table at the same time - so i was staring at my food for a good 10 mins before all the food were brought- making my already un fresh sashimi even more un fresh - really sucks

Naha is a very solid Japanese offering at a good price point for a sit-down lunch in the Taikoo…read morearea. The interior is a dark wood design and feels cozy and tucked away, even though we were sitting at a table in the middle of the restaurant. We were on the early side of the lunch rush (right at noon) and the service was quite attentive in the early going. The place got quite crowded towards the end of our meal and we ended up having to ask for the bill a couple of times -- no big deal, but I can see it being a bit annoying if we had been in a hurry. I had the Beef Teriyaki meal, which came with vegetables, rice and miso soup. Everything was quite tasty, if perhaps unspectacular. I can't say that anything was wrong, and my companions and I had a nice lunch. The bill was also less than I expected (always a pleasant surprise). If someone suggested it again I would go without hesitation, but I would not necessarily choose it on my own. On the whole, a pretty decent option if you are looking for Japanese food in Taikoo.

I am a huge fan of Japanese food and seafood, so when I heard about a Japanese Crab restaurant, I…read morewas beside myself. I know that sounds exaggerated, but my stomach is very influential upon my moods. The first time we tried to find this restaurant, we got lost and wound up getting there right when it closed. Disheartened, we almost gave up on it since Wan Chai was so far from Sha Tin (4 MTR lines to get there). On the very last day, we decided to try again and I am so glad we did! Despite the fact that we didn't have reservations, the staff very kindly let us dine in one of their private rooms upstairs. The private room was fantastic both for the overall experience and for the kids. Service was very attentive without being intrusive. The wait staff took great care in informing us how to cook and/or eat each item. We ordered 3 lunch sets (3 adults, 2 children). One executive set ($500(?) HKD) including crab tempura, crab shabu shabu, grilled edamame, chuwanmushi, and veggies, one Wagyu set ($150 HKD) including wagyu beef and udon, and one Crab Rice set ($180 HKD) with Matsuba crab / salmon roe and the crab tsukane. Each dish was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh, and oh so tasty. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the food, service, and experience.

You know how one gets the meat sweats? Well...if it were true, I would probably get Crab sweats! ....ew.. Moving on, my friends know what a huge crab fanatic I am so they were so nice to take me to a restaurant that was especially crab focused. This place is absolutely, most definitely, completely, TOTALLY, a heaven for crab lovers like myself. Kanizen is a Japanese restaurant that focuses on the different ways to eat Japanese horse-hair crab and mainly Tabara crab. We chose the pre-fixed dinner for two and it had about 7 courses. Just thinking about this meal has got me salivating at my laptop. (Metaphorically) Once you walk in the dimly lit restaurant, you see a pond with ENORMOUS crabs just chilling. The size of these things are quite shocking. I let my waitress know that I wasn't able to finish the whole thing and she assured me that I can, she was, of course, absolutely right. First came out cold crab meat with UNI and tempura fried egg on top. Heavenly, the egg yolk was runny and ran down my crab meat. The crab meat was sweet and perfect. Next came out the crab legs, which I love. Every course was spectacular. My favourite of all was the crab congee you make or can ask the staff to make for you. It was the perfect ending to my crab meal. I was so satiated and I cannot wait to go back.
