Da Hong Pao Hot Pot in TST has literally the scariest bathrooms I've ever been in. No, it's not that it was dirty, but those bathrooms can pass for a haunted attraction at Ocean Park. If I wasn't drunk, I'd be terrified. Anyways, more on that later. Da Hong Pao Hot Pot is one successful hot pot place. The TST branch is only one of its locations and I'm hoping more open up. When your method of cooking is literally dunking raw food in boiling water, you better be using the freshest ingredients. Da Hong Pao delivers and exceeds! Knowing this, they also serve sashimi along with hot pot. As a girl from landlocked Toronto, I'm already amazed by the variety and quality of seafood. I've rarely had geoduck and it has definitely never tasted as sweet as it did here. The razor clams were so fresh and chewy, the fish balls were incredibly bouncy. On top of that, ingredients I am familiar with were just as great, like the beef and salmon. Now I haven't been to many hot pot places in HK, but I'm also gonna go out on a limb and say some items here are quite unique. Foie gras stuffed squid balls and black truffle wontons anyone? They've got all your expected condiments and soup bases like mala spicy, satay, cilantro & thousand year egg, etc. But they've also got their specialty: "金屋藏嬌: The Beauty Hidden in the Golden House". It's basically a whole chicken sitting in a winter melon, which acts as both a dish and a subsequent soup base after you eat the chicken. Very nourishing and something I definitely haven't seen before. Service is spectacular. Food and drink came promptly and there were easily 4-5 people serving us that night, despite the full house on a Thursday. The blonde man in charge was so fun, he felt like one of our own. At the end of night, he even helped us take photos and an Ellen DeGeneres style selfie. Oh yeah, the bathrooms. Walk past the tables, the bar, the kitchen and down the isolated hallway. Open the door and you're greeted with a black-painted room, lit only with dim red lights. You can barely see your own face, but you can make out the outline of a hundred of your faces within the back-to-back mirrors. The ingredients that we chose and that they brought out were extremely fresh. I kept ordering the head on fresh shrimp. The two other items I enjoyed were the fishcake with cheese filling and fishcake with tobiko filling. They had a variety of canned drinks that you could help yourself to. OMG, they had this one drink called Milkis. It was a milk soda and I drank around five cans. I've never tasted soda so good in my life. I wish they had it here. The only thing that I didn't like about this place was their dipping sauces. Hot pot places tend to have a plethora of dipping sauces. This place only had two: peanut butter and satay. This has led me onto a search for the best all you eat hotpot restaurant out there because there's no arguing that it offers the best value. There may be niche ones which do extremely good meat and other items but they will cost you an arm and a leg to dine here. No good if I want this in the long run. That's when I chanced upon Giant Seafood Hotpot. This shop first opened in Tsuen Wan where it was situated on 16/f of a commercial building- the view was amazing and given it was all new back then everything was nice. the food they served was really fair for the price (160?) and all soft drinks were for free too (they serve you real coke by the way). I've been a fan of this place for the best part of a year when everybody else seemed to have discovered it and things went down hill from there. Nowadays, you have to reserve a table in advance by a week or so at least, that's if they let you make a reservation. The second thing is that walk-in is well nigh impossible unless you decide to start waiting from about 5 pm. IF you were lucky to get a table you will find that the place has gone downhill and no care has been taken to keep the place up. The food is alright if you go early enough when they tend to give out the prettier stuff, go later at night and you will really be scraping the bottom. Please make more tables available!

Everything is nice here, the food, the drinks, the vibe, the service and the price.. Great wagyu dining at a reasonable price. I ordered a bowl of rice to complement the awesome taste of meat. The rice is $20 a bowl but totally worth the price - rice is soft with a sweet touch. Perfectly complemented the rich greasy taste of wagyu (and my rice sake). Imagine the juicy and fat wagyu exploded in your mouth and you accompany that with soft sweet jap rice - the feeling is totally out of this world. Apart from sake, they also serve draft beer. Nicely seasoned with different characters, all the dishes are my favourites, which paired so well with the draught beef. Lovely~
