So almost a year ago, I moved to Hong Kong from the US for work. To be completely correct, I work here and live in Hong Kong for half of the year and then travel back to the US and telecommute. The apartment that I rent, is located right above the Discovery Park Shopping Center. Thus, I believe my review should be very honest and accurate from the standpoint of someone who walks down the building and walk through the mall everyday.
So in my humble opinion, Discovery Park Shopping Center, as this point in time, is crap. The constructions that's been going on here has lasted almost 2 years and I heard that it will continue for at least another 2. NOT cool. With the construction, certain area of the mall is blocked off, so people are walking in the mall are constantly walking in a maze. The smell of paint of also everywhere, which is not so good for kids and people with asthma. For a mall that prides itself for being children friendly, I think they really over looked the damage that the constructions has brought.
On the good side, location of the mall is great. Very easy access to the MTR (subway) line, direct airport bus (A31) that can take you to the airport within 1 hour, and direct bus to the boarder between Hong Kong and China if you need to go the the mainland. There is also a park lot and a car dealership. Yup, that's right, the entire 7th floors is a car dealership.
The shops are ehh, not very many to yet since most of the mall is under construction. A few restaurants are pretty popular here, one of them is Federal, a cantonese style dim sum restaurant. Food is pretty decent there at a fair price point.
Discovery Park also has a kids street that consist of several kids/baby stores including Toy R' US and Eugine Baby. Both are very popular.
Pros:
- Good location, easy access to public transportation
- Good places to find kids/baby stuff
Cons:
- Too much construction going on
- not enough shops and restaurant
Overall:
- I think when the constructions are over, this mall can be pretty nice, but that might be 2 years from now. We can only wait and see. read more
