The pork cutlets were fried very nicely - juicy meat wrapped in a light crispy layer of panko! The sauce was also very solid and not too sour or sweet. You also get to grind up sesame to add to your sauce which gives it another layer! Each meal comes with cabbage and miso soup with free refills! Love how the cabbage was sliced so finely and I very much enjoyed it when paired with the Japanese sesame salad sauce. Their pickled daikon and vegetables were quite tasty too. The store resembles Japanese stores and it tucked underground. Service was standard but still pretty good!

They occupied the whole floor of 19/F of the building, like many hidden restaurants in HK where they're completely off the streets. Once you exit the elevator, you'll see the sake display case on the left. It seems like they have a good selection. We were seated at the bar. I got the 12-piece sashimi and my sis got the eel rice. Wow the seafood were super fresh and they weren't your regular selection. There was fish and way of preparation that I never heard of. Also everything is seasoned already according to the chef's wish so you won't find soy sauce on the table, which you know is a legit Japanese sushi restaurant! However there's extra fresh wasabi for you if you so incline to eat it plain like me... for details of fish, check out the pics! The eel rice was their signature dish here. It has to be eaten right away so the skin won't turn soggy. It's crispy with the right amount of seasoning and the rice was cooked perfectly! Even the house sake was delicious. Given the full amazing experience with high-end sashimi quality plus a few fish ordered a la carte, the price was within reason. Our lunch ended being HKD 1100 which is about USD 140 including mandatory 10% service charge and no tax, so roughly $70 per person. My lunch set actually cost about $50 but that was almost like an omakase by itself! The price was comparable to sushi ota in San Diego, but the quality is much much much better! Great experience and will take my hubby there next time!

One of the best Japanese restaurants in town - highly recommended! Great atmosphere, food quality…read moreand service.

3.5 Stars Just…read morearound the corner from Via Tokyo, a quiet cul-de-sac awaits with hidden gem eateries like cafes, dessert shops and now a Japanese yakitori bar comically named Bilibala. Why is the name comical? Well "bilibala" is supposedly what loud chatters sound like in Cantonese and thus the name is aptly suited then for a bar serving drinks and yakitori which is perfect for a night out chit chatting with friends. Some of the things we tried were: Cold Japanese Tomato with Black Truffle ($58) - the black truffle was quite aromatic while the sweet and fresh tomatoes made for a very refreshing snack. Japanese Fish Ball with Wasabi ($48) - I was pleasantly surprised by this unique combination as the chewy fish balls went perfectly with the spicy wasabi. Tamagoyaki ($58) - the tamagoyaki was well executed with the many soft layers of sweet egg. Lychee with Bacon ($32) - whoever thought of this combination of lychee with bacon is pure genius. The sweetness of the lychee balanced the saltiness of the meat perfectly. Just be careful when eating this as the lychee may still be quite hot and may burn your mouth. Ox Tongue ($40) - the ox tongue was a bit average as the tongue could be thicker and bouncier in texture but the array of sauces for the yakitori were a nice touch. Fresh Eel ($88) - Loved the crispiness of the skin and the tenderness of the eel! Tsukune ($48) - the ever classic minced chicken meatball was delicious to eat as bits of chewy cartilage had been incorporated into the meatball so it was crunchy-licious! Grilled Rice Roll ($38 each) - in 3 flavors: cod fish roe, pickled plum, and bonito flakes. The rice rolls were quite crunchy to eat while I especially liked the spiciness of the cod fish roe and the tartness of the pickled plum. Japanese Mochi with Cheese ($28) - finally we ended the night perfectly with these scrumptiously soft and chewy mochi filled with melting cheese that were just heavenly to eat. Verdict - the affordable price tags and great quality of food at Bilibala make it a great spot for happy hour with friends to eat and drink the night away.

The hostess stand was empty during prime lunch hour and I had to flag staff down to be seated. Once seated, the menus were dropped off and we flipped through several pages showcasing a wide variety of Japanese cuisine including soups, salads, sushi, sashimi, katsu, rice dishes, noodles, amd tempura. There were also set menus where soup, salad, + a small side accompanied the main course. I opted for the chirashi sashimi gozen which was filled with a nice variety of raw fish including uni, amaebi, + ikura. The taste was quite fresh but the bowl it came in was not packed with rice...actually packed pretty loosely and the depth of the bowl was deceptive. The chawanmushi it came with was very good though, as the savory steamed egg pudding was smooth and fragrant. My friends ordered a lunch set menu item and the omelet over rice with wagyu beef. They didn't think the price was worth the amount of food they got and they both agreed that there are better options. To be honest, I had higher expectations from this restaurant. The service during our meal was also spotty and inconsistent, as we did not have a primary server bt rather many. We are not in a hurry to come back.

Instead of the omakase, we ordered a bunch of things from the menu and also some specials. Their appetizers and sweet apéritif were really yummy. So were the tempuras that we randomly chose piece by piece. Sashimi was super fresh and tasty, and service was very attentive. Overall delicious but at that price point (think 400-500 cad) I'm don't think the value was there to give it a 5 star.
