Metro City Plaza is one of the biggest malls in the Tsuen Kwan O area and arguably one of the most…read morepopular. Situated next to the Hang Hau MTR station, this is one of the older malls compared to places like Popcorn which only opened in the last few years. Though much effort has been put in to modernize the location, the age does show a little through the layout and general décor of the mall. Having said that, this mall does cater for everyone and everything- its rare to see nowadays small shops mixing with the big boys like H&M and department stores under the same roof. There is a cinema, numerous restaurants and a sizeable food court that seems to offer everything there is under the sun. Being a residential estate as well, there are supermarkets and dry cleaners here too which gives it the character of a smaller place than it is. Not forgetting to mention the department store - Citistore- which offers more everyday items that you will need to set up a new home. This place is jack of all trades and master of all. I would only recommend this place to locals as there really isn't much for tourists to see. It is a family mall so you won't find anything really interesting here (in fact I would say its al little bland)- but what more could you ask for, all in one place?

We ventured out here to get a feel of a more residential area Hong Kong area and one easily accessible by the MTR. As seems typical of Hong Kong's newer malls, it is clean and bright, well maintained, busy, accessible by the MTR, has lots of mid-priced (as opposed to high end luxury) shops and eateries, and also has a connected hotel, in this case both a Crowne Plaza and a Holiday Inn. We enjoyed our visit here and getting a lot of mall fitness steps in while at it. It does appear true that the further out from Hong Kong proper one goes, it does become slightly more laid back, slightly less crowded, and slightly less intense on the hustle and bustle.

The best part is it's at the Tsing Yi MTR station. I wouldn't personally come all the way over here to shop, but if you're in the area or your live nearby, it's a great shopping mall. The eateries here are decent too. The Jade dynasty, Thai elephant and KFC on the third floor are my favorites. The bathrooms are also clean and very kid friendly. It's a mall but it's pretty cramped. The walk ways are narrow and the stores are modestly sized. I like to visit every now and then just to check out the displays and see what's for sale. This is definitely a fun visit for collectors but those who don't like crowds won't feel comfortable here. One positive is the location. It is conveniently located near the MTR. I can't comment on the prices here though.

Pros + Price: let's be real. You're in Asia, where are all those cheap deals? Mong kok is the place to go. It's like buying clothes from aliexpress, but you get to see it in person before you buy - Cash: you probably need to bring cash. I would describe it as more of a building full with tiny tiny shops. Whatever you can imagine, you can find at the mall. There were electronics stores, clothes of all kinds, purses, food stalls, gift shops and much more. Here's the interesting thing, each of these shops were only about 50-100 sq ft in size. And after awhile, you realize all other big shopping malls are the same and none of these brands' value reflects anything but a reminder of HK's notorious materialism, then yeah, you'll miss Causeway Place. It is undergoing a big overhaul and some of the shops are still under renovation. But the result so far is very refreshing. Yes you can see a few old shops that have been here for a decade, but the new shops give a lot of interesting elements to the mall. A ukulele shop, for example, is a new sight to me. The mall also removes the lower-end shops, .e.g mobile phone cases shop or check-shop (格仔舖), and makes the whole place with a little bit of class that more than just student-friendly. One more thing that works in my favor is the male clothing shops. They are rare breeds as malls are always focusing on female clothing. Since I'm a sucker of local brands and off-mainstream designs, the boom of male clothing shops here in Causeway Place actually fits me well. Give this mall another chance. It resides at the bestest spot in Causeway Bay, and deserves much better attention after the renovation is done.

Causeway Place is right opposite MTR Exit E, along the same street as Windsor House. Unlike Island Beverley and Laforet, I would say that there are comparatively less fashion boutiques and that the shops here are more varied. If you're looking to get accessories for your phone, be it portable chargers or covers, give Causeway Place a try. There are quite a few shops that specialize in accessories for your phone, and they're generally quite affordable (although still more expensive than places like Mong Kok, because this is after all Causeway Bay). Be sure to compare prices between stores before buying though! There's also one shop that is filled to the brim with Sanrio toys and accessories. If you have a daughter or a younger cousin, bring them here - this is a Hello Kitty/Rilakkuma/Sanrio-characters-in-general paradise! You'll be able to find anything from notepads to lunch boxes to bags here. Of course, if you're on the lookout for clothes and accessories, you won't be disappointed. There are quite a couple of shoe stores here and they have quite the variety! Note that if you're buying clothes, you probably won't be able to try them on as there are no changing rooms, so you might want to wear a tank inside that will enable you to just easily slip something on. Causeway Place isn't huge, but there's lots to see and lots to buy. Instead of going straight to Times Square or Sogo the next time you're at Causeway Bay, try coming here - it'll certainly be a refreshing change!
