Kee Wah is a big bakery chain in Hong Kong with stores just about everywhere. This includes even train stations.
This location is at Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong on the MTR level. It is located next to Taste supermarket. I came here looking for one item, wife cakes. Wife cakes (aka lou po beng) are a flaky wintermelon pastry.
Wife cakes are the ideal baked good to bring back from Hong Kong because they are individually wrapped and their expiration date is a little longer than your usual baked good.
I bought a couple of wife cakes (HK$8 each) as a sample to see whether I should bring some home as gifts. The wife cakes at Kee Wah are indeed very good. I like the sesame seeds on top and the pastry is soft and not too sweet. When eating them, make sure to peel off the paper wrapper underneath the pastry before devouring.
In addition to wife cakes, they have your usual assortment of Chinese buns and breads. Kee Wah is also known for their mooncakes and they are also very tasty. But problematic to bring back to the US since the good ones contain egg yolk inside which is generally a no go. Though nothing wrong with picking some up in HK to enjoy them while you are there.
The baked goods at Kee Wah are great. If you are a fan of wife cakes or mooncakes, I suggest you visit one of Kee Wah's shops around town to pick up some. read more
