The broth for the hot noodles tasted great though : light, not overly seasoned, tasted like the kind of broth you'd make at home. My husband said the cold soba was nothing special. We then finished our meal off with the matcha jelly (flown in daily from Kyoto!), which was really good, definitely full of matcha flavor and went well with the ice cream and red bean paste. My husband gave the matcha ice cream two thumbs up. 90 min dining limit and everyone must order one item. No free wifi. HSBC credit card holders get a discount.

It's already a huge thing in Hong Kong, with at least one matcha dessert store at every mall. When I found out that a well known matcha chain, Nakamura Tokichi, was opening up its first branch in HK, I made it a point to plan to visit and give it a try. Unsurprisingly, as with all well known restaurants in Hong Kong, there was a fairly long wait even on a Wednesday. I had to wait almost two hours to get a table for six people. When we were finally seated, we were presented with complimentary green tea and a menu filled with delicious goodies. I tried the green tea almost immediately, and already I was floored. Most green tea tastes fairly bland and generic, but this green tea was incredibly rich and flavorful. As to be expected from a matcha restaurant with as prestigious a reputation as Nakamura Tokichi. We shared several matcha and hojicha parfaits, a hojicha ice cream, and I got the kyo no fukiyose, which contained several different things including chiffon cake, matcha ice cream, red bean, whipped cream, and mochi. The parfaits were incredibly rich and elegant. Cereal was added to the red bean and ice cream, and the flavors all blended together perfectly. The chiffon cake was sweet yet light. The red bean was a real delight, not too sweet, and balanced out the sweetness of the hojicha and matcha ice cream incredibly well. In just one experience, I can see why Nakamura Tokichi is one of the most well known matcha restaurants in Hong Kong. It lives up to its own hype in many ways.

I wish we had Teawood in California! I'm definitely going to go back later this week to try the…read moredesserts since I didn't get the chance last time and they are known for their sweet drinks and toast! However their savory food is just as tasty. My sister ordered beef noodles and not only is is so flavorful, but the beef meat pretty much melts into your mouth. My smoked salmon salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten and the entire bowl was empty by the time I was through with it. Quality food and service! Edit: I came back with the sole purpose of trying their desserts (and other savory foods) and it was worth the half hour wait, I'll tell you. We ordered pasta, the cookies and cream brick toast, jasmine milk tea, and brown sugar milk tea with wheat. Pasta: forgot the name but SO GOOD like better than some of the high class Italian pastas I've had in California. How can a Taiwanese cafe that specialize in dessert create such divine pasta I don't know but I ain't complaining! Brick toast: 10/10 I'm so used to eating the inside of the brick toast and leaving the crust to the dust because of how hard and flavorless it is, but this is hands down the best brick toast I've ever had in my life where I was able to eat both the crust AND the inside. Jasmine milk tea: good taste, good quality. Good enough for my mom to crave more for it even after being back in California for a week. Brown sugar milk tea with wheat: maybe it's because I'm unable to drink this stuff without getting sick, but my throat started to feel funky after two sips and the texture of the wheat made me feel uncomfortable to drink anymore. Most of their drinks are brown sugar so I wish they had more flavors but maybe this is what they're known for. Everything else is great, though!

English Review: Tea…read morewood is a very refreshing and trendy Taiwanese chain. For me, the teal bluish coloring combined with the wood surfaces provide a very classy and fun environment to eat. My party of 2 came around peak hours ~1:30pm and was seated in about 10 minutes. However because of the lunch rush, was only allowed to stay for 60 minutes. My order: ~$150 HK or about ~$25 US Popcorn chicken - nice and crispy; definitely a lot better than some of its American counterparts Mixed fruit tea - felt like I could have made it at home to be honest; however, they gave a huge load of fruit( Mangos, Dragon fruit, strawberry, blueberry, plums) which made it super refreshing Latte - cutest little coffee art I've ever seen! All in all pretty cute place. A little busy for my tastes but I still had a good time. 4/5 stars :)
