Small, but well loved neighborhood temple with unique coiled incense hanging and wafting through…read morethe air. There's a small public outside courtyard, smaller inner courtyard with incense shop and reception, and three different altars. Two other people were doing devotion while I was there, a lady was washing the floor, and a man was attending the reception/shop. I almost missed it because the pedestrian street has so many things that could easily distract you and make you miss it if you aren't looking for the simple white arch along the alley.

But I believe with three "Man Mo" temples around Hong Kong and the SAR, this one is a worthy stop if you find yourself in the area. Because it is in Tai Po, it is void of tourists and quaint. It feels very local and peaceful. It was built in 1891 and was declared a historical monument in 1984. More so than other temples I have seen, this place is very well taken care of. The small courtyard was so exceptionally clean and manicured. The temple is also small and dedicated to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo). We were the only two people there, other than the one man who was attending the temple reception desk. This temple is located about mid way down Fu Shin Street, which is a small market street for shopping (less tourist trinkets and more designed for locals) and also around the corner from the Railroad Museum.

No matter which university you are in, during your orientation camp, there must be one night that…read moreis dedicated to exchanging ghost stories. (Yup. They love spooking freshmen) If that haunted story happens at the same university, you are in luck as your seniors will definitely drag you to have an adventure. I graduated from CUHK and one of the most famous haunted stories must be the Single Braided Lady. It is commonly believed that years ago, one female immigrant who had a traditional Chinese hairdo - single braid took a train with her boyfriend. However they were having a heated argument and she decided to leave him by jumping off the train. Little did she know that her braid got stuck in the door, and she ended up having her hair and face completely ripped off. As graphic as that might sound, it certainly still gives me goose bumps just talking about it. Yet, not many people know where the single braid road is actually located. Some say it is behind Shaw college, some say it is right next to Chung Chi College. However, it is actually located the campus circuit road. As I used to live in International House, I took that path pretty often as the school bus did not go through I-House that often. To save time, I rather walked that path. I really did not know where I got that courage to be walking that road all by myself in the middle of the night. It is believed that people have seen a lady sitting on a bench crying. And if you go comfort her, she will turn around and you will see a faceless woman. Thankfully I have never heard anyone moaning or making funny noises there, (seriously, it is the quietest road in the entire campus) As I have personal experience before, this road is just a bit quiet. But do come here and explore to prove me wrong. The best way to get there is to walk along the Residence Road (from the I-house) and you will see the Campus Circuit North, and that is the real single braid road. (I gave 4 stars mainly because there had not been news about accidents here and I guess it is fun to come have a look!)
