HOPEFULLY USEFUL:…read more
if there is only one rugby sevens world series tournament in the world you should go to, then this is it!
this year marks it's 40th anniversary! happy 40th, hk 7s!!!!
and all these years of experience make them the best run and most fun rugby tournament in the world!
ask any rugby players and/or fans which rugby sevens world series tournament to go to and the answer is unanimous!
if there's only one day, of the three, you can spare to be at this tournament then make it friday.
friday is the day of the official opening ceremony with great fanfare and performances to boot.
friday also tends to be less crowded, easier to get and with cheaper tickets too!
you even get to watch the lesser rugby playing nations, that you might support and also ladies in action!
can't get official tickets as they are always sold out?!
there will always be a scalper at hand, just make sure you look like you want ticket(s)!
go early and be ready to pay a premium, e.g. HK$500 for a face value ticket of HK$300.
just remember it is the south stand where you want to be!
the quick pace of the rugby sevens game also mean you get to see lots of tries, which happens right in front of the south stand!
however, you do need to be here early to secure a seat in this limited seating area.
come late and you need to join the queue in hope that some strange soul actually wants or needs to leave this place!
just remember also that if you choose to leave the south stand area, after it is already full, re-entry is on a queue basis!
HOPEFULLY FUNNY:
just remember it is the south stand where you want to be!
where else can you see adult smurfs, human looking ones at that?!
where else can you see rwandan stormtroopers, in full gear, cheering, singing and drumming boisterously for team hk?!
every corner you turn, you see another individual or group in fancy dress!
most people who grace the south stand go there dressed to catch the eye, the tv's eye!
and the bigger the group, the higher the chance to get on tv!
so much fun, in the sun in the south stand, that i did not get any chance to go to the toilet!
oh, do bring with you a set of newspaper and no, it is not because it might be boring at times.
it is for you to use for reserving seat(s) when you can no longer hold it in anymore and need to answer nature's call because of the copious amount of beer you will imbibe!
this is a real world series as it actually involves countries from all over the world and not just teams within the united states of america!
you do not need to understand rugby to be here!
just know that players travel forward and balls travel, mostly, backward!
HOPEFULLY COOL:
it is constant entertainment here, non-stop action on and off the field.
when the game is on, it's quick, end to end stuff.
when no game is on, the media and the crowd takes over to ensure you have a great time off the field!
even though many are but guests in one of the numerous corporate boxes that dot the stadium.
there are many who actually come just to experience the fun, locals or expats, and just to be in the south stand.
just remember it is the south stand where you want to be!
there was this dude, making it clear he is from LA, with aviator raybans, army khaki shirt, black cycling tights and hiking boots, obviously drunk at high noon, trying to chat with strangers who were obviously not amused, yet no violence ensued, no matter how annoying he was!
everyone was friendly, tolerant, even when beers were spilled and here just for fun!
and if you choose not to leave your seat at all, a wide assortment of food and non-alcohlic beverage will find it's way to you!
and then the cleaning uncle will mysteriously appear with trash bags to clean up any thing you might need to dispose!
p.s. rugby sevens will make it's debut as a summer olympic sport in 2016!
how cool is that?!
