This is not the type of restaurant that I normally go to but this is a taste of childhood memory. As I kid I always order a small steak with sausage and a cup of cold hk milk tea. My last visit was the same thing. Tasted a lot of memories. Service and environment wise... it's hk fast food. What can you expect. read more

I'm a real fan of Cafe de Coral. They are my favorite fast food chain. Most of their food is average, BUT some of their stuff is surprisingly good. For example, most fast food chains will make their chicken skin crispy by frying it because frying is easy to do and hard to mess up for unskilled line cooks. However, Cafe de Coral cooks crispy skinned boneless chicken thighs by either baking or pan frying. Most likely, it is by baking, which is very hard to do. There's a secret to this. The chicken skin tasted sweet. They caramelized sugar or honey on the chicken skin in an oven to get the chicken skin to caramelize without burning it. This is because, usually, to get chicken skin to be crispy, you either have to fry it, pan fry it, or broil it in an oven at over 400 degrees Fahrenheit. However, caramelizing of sugar happens at only 320 to 340 degrees Fahrenheit. This lower temperature allows the fat under the chicken skin to melt and the skin to be crispy without the danger of burning. Furthermore, using chicken thighs allows you to slow cook in an oven without the danger of the meat being dry as thighs are fatter and moister than breasts. No other fast food chain dares to sell baked chicken with no fat under crispy skin. Also, they serve really good curry dishes. Their curry dishes have a fair amount of herbs and spices in them. It is not the crappy Japanese style curry with a ton of sugar, zero spices, and watery creamless liquid. It is not as good as Islam Food (who is?), but it is better than most other places that serve curry. It's currylicious! Their french toast has a creative sweet peanut brittle sauce inside it. The outside is thoroughly covered with egg and cooked to perfection, golden colored but not burnt. Their service is quick and the place is also very clean. Most of all, the prices are surprisingly cheap. Most breakfast sets are only around 25 HKD or so, give or take a couple HKD. If you need a quick, cheap, yet surprisingly tasty meal, then Cafe de Coral is your choice. read more
