My wife recently underwent major surgery at Canossa . The doctors and surgery staff were great . Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the nursing staff on the 5th floor . This was a private room ward which was not full so being stretched was not an excuse
They nursing staff were surly , offhand and generally very unpleasant . If it's a smile and pleasant attitude that you are expecting from any of the staff then look elsewhere. If you had the audacity to ask for anything , you were ordered to WAIT! and often ignored until you were forced to ask again. It was akin to being in a military academy
The bed was made once in 3 days , the sheets were never straightened except by myself , There was no offer of assistance to my wife whilst showering or, general nursing assistance following surgery when she was confined to bed which is certainly what I expected
The doctor prescribed pain killers as needed, my wife's request to the nurse for a painkiller injection went unheeded for more than 35 mins despite being many hours since the previous one . She eventually resorted to using the call button which was simply ignored . What would have happened had she fallen and started bleeding or had a blood clot ,heart attack or some other emergency . Would I now be facing a major crisis because the nurses failed to respond to the call light .
When you press the call bell in a hospital one expects it to be responded to promptly Not here .
My wife is very easy going and I spent most of the 4 days with her in the hospital . She was always pleasant to the staff , greeting them every time they walked into the room . I only once saw a smile in return . In fact it was so bad that we actually commented on the fact that we had managed to elicit a smile from one of the staff
I accept that there is sometimes a language or cultural problem ,but being rude and disrespectful is not a cultural thing it's just bad manners and not acceptable especially when we are paying for a private room . There appears to be no ward matrons or any kind of middle management in this hospital to correct these issues before they become a major problem .
HYGIENE
There seems a total reluctance to use bleach or sterilizing agents in the rooms , there was what can only be described as gunk behind the shower door. The room floor wasn't too clean either . The cleaner simply moved from room to room with a mop which was used to wipe the floor, but in the absence of any cleaning product, all she achieved was to spread germs from one room to another not great in a hospital
The FOOD
Absolutely disgusting , I didn't know that anyone could produce such horrible looking and awful smelling food . How anyone could be persuaded to eat it especially when you are feeling delicate is beyond me
. If you want to loose weight this is a great place .
CONCLUSION
Go to any other hospital in preference . The only reason we went to Canossa is because our doctor insisted . What a mistake ... Matilda on the peak is amazing in comparison , the staff are friendly and attentive , the food is very edible and there is a much better choice of TV channels to watch
An absolutely horrible experience never to be repeated and I would advise anyone else to avoid this place like the plague read more
