Honestly there are a TON of amazing Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong, and this just happens to be the one that my family and I go to every time I'm back in town. I wouldn't say Tomokazu is pricey because there are certainly Japanese restaurants that are much more expensive than this one in Hong Kong, but it's also not cheap either--I would say this is above average pricing. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years, probably due to the renovations, higher import prices for the raw ingredients, as well as increasing popularity of quality Japanese food in the city. I do want to point out that for the same amount of money, the quality you can buy in Hong Kong is much much much higher than the quality you can get in the U.S. (which is a reason why I don't visit Japanese restaurants often in LA cause I can't really justify the price with the quality I'm getting).
I've had the salmon sashimi, toro sashimi (pricey but literally melt-in-your-mouth goodness), cold buckwheat soba noodles, grilled black cod, fried rice with abalone, fried soft shell crab roll, salmon California roll, beef tongue, uni hand roll (seasonal pricing), crab porridge, corn (seasonable item), Japanese melon, etc. I highly recommend getting the cold buckwheat soba noodles and the grilled black cod--so freaking delicious.
There are a couple seating options: if you have 2-4 people you can sit at the bar or the regular rectangular tables (kind of separated with a little wooden board which is nice), and if you have a larger party you can sit in the rooms that has slide-able doors for some extra privacy. read more
