Off to Valley Vet we went. With a boarding stay coming up quickly and a soon-to-be-expired bordetella vaccination, we needed an appointment... like yesterday. Luckily, the receptionist was able to squeeze us into the doctor's books for later that same day. Score! My dog Sasha took an instant linking to Dr. Kenda and his easy bedside manner. I took a liking to him as well, with his very thorough approach and useful tips for keeping our furry friends healthy in Hong Kong. Sasha received several expert vaccinations and didn't even flinch! I'm also pleased that Dr. Kenda turned me onto a heartworm preventative that can be administered annually via vaccination instead of monthly tablets. One less thing for me to remember? I'm all for it. To reiterate their thoroughness, they even follow up with mail in the post containing all sorts of useful information. So happy we found a wonderful vet in the neighborhood that offers 24/7/365 emergency services, and even makes house calls! That's how it's done.

I cannot recall walking out with anything less than a $1000 bill. The lobby is very bare and the staff barely visible behind a looming counter. There are often giant bags of dog food lying on the floor. I have had really positive experiences with the redheaded female veterinarian who really focuses on soothing your animal, but that is about it. Every other vet I have seen has seemed disinterested and quick to order millions of tests and prescribe hundreds of pills when you suspect the issue is quite small. I also find that the vets have no bedside manner. Throughout a series of misdiagnoses which ultimately resulted in my younger dog having to be put down, I never felt like any of the vets cared about the final outcome. On one occasion I found myself charged for bunch of things that I hadn't been told about. However, the Royal Canin pet food on sale is really great - the quality is high and my pug loves the sensitive formula which helps keeps her allergies at bay. You can also pick up Front Line and order custom dog beds at the clinic. Vets aside, the rest of the staff also seem to really love animals and I see them walking their patients around my block and chatting away to them. It's really very sweet. It's a shame that the more senior staff members aren't as kind. All in all, it's great for your pet pantry staples, but you can more compassionate vets elsewhere.

I have never in my life experienced such a disastrous medical experience than the one I've been…read moresubjected to by Acorn Vet. Five weeks ago I brought my 1 year old dog in to check out a hard lump next to her spine. The doctor (who was very kind and knowledgeable) recommended a biopsy of the lump, and warned that he had recently seen a case in which a highly aggressive cancer was removed from a young dog. He assured me that we should have the results in 10-14 days. I have since called Acorn Vet no fewer than 8 times to get the results of that biopsy. After multiple inquiries, I was told that one of the samples was lost in the mail, but assured that the other half of the lump would be sent to the lab by urgent request, and that I would definitely have results in one week. That was 12 days ago, and since then I have been given the complete run around by a staff who keeps telling me they will call me back, but fails to do so. I am worried sick about my dog and whether she does in fact have an aggressive cancer, in which case we've wasted precious weeks waiting for a completely incompetent office to get back to me. We are now in a situation in which we have no choice but to wait to see IF we ever get the results, as we no longer even have the lump sample to be tested by another vet clinic. The doctors at Acorn Vet seem just fine but if they ever recommend a biopsy, please be cautioned that results may take far longer than they quote you, and the staff will treat you like an annoyance.

The negligence of the Ark Veterinary Hospital allowed my puppy to die. (The Ark Veterinary Hospital…read moreis part of the Pet Space Veterinary Group.) My girlfriend was alone with our puppy when, around midnight, he grew uncomfortable and vomited. Because they claim to be open 24 hours and are nearby, she called the Ark to bring him in, but they said they were too busy. A few hours later, his breathing became laboured, so she called several more times, but they never answered. When our puppy's condition worsened, she carried him there, but no one came to the door. Then, a few minutes after our puppy died on their doorstep, they opened the door. They had been inside the whole time, with no other patients. They attempted to resuscitate our puppy, which obviously failed. My girlfriend had to pay for their services -- pay for them to not see patients, to not answer their phone, to not open their door -- and because she had run there in the middle of the night carrying our puppy, she did not have her wallet. She wasn't even wearing shoes. She had brought only her phone, so that she could continue to try calling for help. They forced her to leave her phone there as collateral while she walked home barefoot to retrieve her wallet, in case she planned to abandon our puppy's body with them. These people are lazy, negligent, and heartless. The Ark Veterinary Hospital (a part of the Pet Space Veterinary Group) should not be allowed to claim to be open 24 hours. They should not be allowed to work with animals at all. You should never give them your business, and more importantly, you should not trust them with the well-being of your pets.

This is a fully equipped veterinary office. The have 24 hour emergency service, so I feel like if anything serious happens, I can just take my dog, Teddy, to his regular hospital. Most of the veterinarians here have been trained overseas and they have specialists qualified to do emergency surgeries if necessary. This also means that you can get quick in house referrals and see specialists the same day. It's nice to know that when my four legged friend needs some care, there are good qualified doctors available to check him out, and it's a bonus that they speak English. They also have modern equipment to closely monitor your pet's health. The lobby is huge and it's nice because they have space for furry friends to sit next to you, even if found have an oversized lap doggy. I'm not quite sure exactly what other animals they treat besides dogs and cats, but I would trust any of my animals to get quality care at the PAVC. This is the Cadillac of veterinary offices in Hong Kong.
