The owner brought out a basket of something he promised my co-worker and I would enjoy. Only after we agreed to eat it, did he agree to tell us what it was: fried fish skin. I love being surprised like this. I always go with the peanut satay soup base. It is the most amazing broth I have ever had in my mouth. Utterly to die for good. If you've never been to a hot pot restaurant, basically you pick your soup base and then a bunch of veggies and/or protein that you will cook in that soup right at your table. Be careful when eating because my dad bit into one and it sprayed juice all over his sweater! The pork chop was- big and moist. I can't believe the pork chop noodles was about $10 USD. When we got back to the US, my daughter said she was craving those noodles! I like that the minimum orders for the xiao long baos is four and the potstickers is three so you don't have to order too much. The restaurant was very clean and modern. A hidden gem!

I didn't even really need the sauce. :D PAN FRIED POTSTICKERS - This was super tasty and juicy inside, but watch out.. it's HOT! Once you hit dinner time, the wait is an excruciating 30-45 mins, especially at the popular Times Square, IFC, and Ocean Terminal (TST) locations. I've been pretty lucky to avoid any wait at Din Tai Fung, but then maybe it's because I've only gone during the weekdays. Back to Crystal Jade, here are my must-orders: - Xiao Long Bao (4 pcs per order) 小籠包 - Dan Dan Mian 擔擔麵 - Gluten with beans and black fungus - Pork wontons in chili vinaigrette 紅油抄手 - La Mian with Deep Fried Pork Cutlets - Hot/cold soy milk 熱/冷 豆漿 I love the juiciness of the XLB at Crystal Jade, the pork filling was wrapped in a delicate dumpling skin that I found more chewy than the DTF one. Dan Dan Mian had a spicy kick with a classic peanut-vinegar-y sauce. They cut the noodles in half for you, so that it's easy to share. I do wish there was an option to add some chicken or pork to the dish. The cold soy milk comes in perfectly to counter-act the spicy DDM noodles. The fried pork cutlets surprised me. A lot of the dishes here at heavy on the carbs, and for someone who's on the lookout for protein, I decided to test my luck with this. The pork cutlets were deep fried with a marinade of curry and some paprika for color! The pairing with the La Mian was delicious with a nice contrasting light broth. The pork wontons in chili vinaigrette 紅油抄手 are what distinguish different restaurants from each other. I'd say that it's a close tie between CJ and DTF, with CJ slightly better. It was overwhelming spicy and the prawns inside were juicy.
