You have the option of thick or thin noodles, and/or to add pickles at no extra charge. I personally love thick noodles, and these ones were delicious. The soup however was a bit too salty for me. Overall, the noodle soup was average. Yummy, but nothing special.

I am glad to know that the construction is finally done between the Citylink Plaza and The Sha Tin mall. I have always loved Citylink Plaza mainly because it was never too crowded and it has a wide variety of shops and restaurants. After taking the escalator, I saw this new restaurant called Xiao Wang Beef Noodle. It looked a bit like fast-foody to me but I guess that suits the location very well as the entire floor here caters for employees mostly. I personally love Taiwanese food as it is simple and yet tasty. Over here I have to say that they serve the best deep fried chicken steak. It was crispy and burning hot. Not too salty and of right flavor. The food portion over all is rather large - typical Taiwanese cuisine. As for the beef noodle, unfortunately it was a bit disappointing as I expected this to be their signature dish but yet it was rather ordinary and I have tried better. Service was a bit chaotic that day because of the huge crowd, staff seemed to be too busy so there were several times I saw them served the wrong dish to the wrong table. Anyway, the price range is reasonable so I might come back for a quick lunch next time.

Service was excellent and I loved how attentive the staff were. I ordered the pork XLB, the Dan Dan mian, and a Coke. Everything came out super hot. The XLB was very juicy and wrapper to meat ratio was perfect. I would definitely dine here again if I'm ever in the area or craving for XLB again.

The location remains well alive at the basement level near several other eateries and the movie theater. The other tenants have already come and go while DTF is kicking. The crowds are still very present and seating is hard to come by without any wait, especially during dinner hours regardless of being a weekday or weekend. However, their previous system of securing a table by reservation online via an app has long been gone. The only way to reserve a table is to wait in line in person and they won't seat you until the entire party is present. The service is still great and quite attentive. The menu extensively includes a variety of dumplings, including those pan-fried, steamed, or soup dumplings. They also offer amazing noodles, noodle soups, fried rice, hot and cold appetizers, vegetable dishes, and a nice handful of desserts. The flavor is also on point for all the options I've ordered and not one dish to disappoint. My group and I always found a favorite item such as the pork chop fried rice, spicy chili oil dumplings, crab roe soup dumplings, jellied ham, and more. It's really an endless list of must-gets because there's hardly anything on the menu we would refuse. Overall a group favorite because of all the options on the menu plus legendary handcrafted soup dumplings that has thin enough skin to hold all the soup without the leak and juicy meat. It's still on my must-visit list everytime I'm around.

Indeed, why would they not? Whether it is the street food found in street markets or proper meals such as beef noodles or taiwanese bento, Taiwan has it all. Having said that I have a secret rule of thumb when it comes to food, that is, I will never eat Taiwanese food in Hong Kong and the same applies to the Hong Kong food in Taiwan. It might be a preconception on mine that the authenticity would very much be lost when the cuisine is introduced to a foreign piece of land; adding to that would be the fact that I have been let down for too many times and have gradually lose faith in it. It wasn't until I have come to this shop coincidentally that I gradually restore hope in Taiwanese cuisines in Hong Kong. I think the best way to tell whether a restaurant is good or not is to try out the basics; beef noodle soup is a staple of Taiwan and it would very well be a good indicator in how well a restaurant prepare their foods. The broth is quintessential in a bowl of noodles and 程班長 does it like no others. Traditional taiwanese beef noodle broth is rich and seasoned with soy sauce, behind the mellow fullness a punch of heat will catch you by surprise, and this is exactly how the broth is like in 程班長; going against the slightly broad and substantial noddles, the two matches perfectly. Whereas for the priced jewel, the meats, which could either be brisket, tendon or tripe or all 3 of them, are all very well braised and are melt in your mouth tender. Last but not least, the pickles that add to the noodle soup play an important role in spicing up the flavors as well as freshen up the mouthful. Thank to this restaurant, may be it is not a bad idea to give a little try on taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong; a leap of faith is indeed called for nonetheless.

Hot Star serves probably the best street-side fried chicken you can find. Originating from Taiwan, the chicken here is fried to delicious perfection, and the meat is nice and tender. There is permanently a line forming outside Hot Star - be it two people or ten. Not surprising, because the chicken here is so, so good! It's served piping hot and it smells amazing - every bite is simply heavenly. I've actually only tried two things on the menu - the signature large fried chicken, and the 'heung heung gai', the second item on the menu, which translates roughly and very aptly to 'delicious delicious chicken'. The large fried chicken, as the name suggests, is pretty large. It's basically a big piece of chicken. The chicken meat is juicy and very nicely fried. Even though it was soaked in oil, for some reason, it doesn't taste that oily to me. I've had fried chicken where I feel like I'm eating mouthfuls of oil, but it isn't the case with this one. I would definitely recommend getting the second item on the menu, the 'heung heung gai', it you're sharing with friends. It tastes exactly like the large fried chicken, except the chicken is in small, bite-sized pieces - perfect for sharing. The portion is decent enough to be eaten among three people, I would say. I don't normally like street food in HK, but this is an exception. Yes, it's fried, unhealthy, and loaded with MSG, but hey, there's no harm in having it once in a while. In sum, this is no doubt a guilty pleasure of mine. Try it, and I'm sure it'll soon be yours too!
