I am unsure if this was due to more focused branding. There is a good variety of home goods. My first Daiso experience was in Little Tokyo in LA and I would definitely return. Everything is the same price unless there is a sticker/sign indicating otherwise. I enjoy buying bowls and cooking utensils/ items to change your lifestyle.They have molds for heart shaped sushi rolls, onigiri, and cute bowls and jars. There is a section on grooming/accessories/cleaning/cooking/stationary.... need I go on? It is fun to just peruse the aisles. This particular location is in the basement; we walked around in circles before we were able to locate it. Once you walk inside it is like a wonder of products waiting to be discovered. This chain is basically a 100 YEN store, similar concept to a 99 cents store. However, unlike most 99 cents stores, the product quality is better (with the exception of Dollar tree which does sell some brand name products). I highly recommend going to a location and checking it out.

This is true as of now, a few weeks back I found myself looking glass jars for preservatives; that's when I truly realize that I have completed my role from being a twenty-something free man to an early middle aged family man. This is the beginning of my downfall, the end of my wild days- days of suburbia. What has it got to do with the shop? Well, this place very much sells stuff that a family needs- not likes- needs. You will find kitchen items, study essentials, pre packed snacks for kids; all the stuff that you really need if you were to start a family from scratch. Why has it got 5 stars? That's because every time I was instructed by the almighty to find items that I had no interest and no knowledge of finding, I would find it here. Lids for jars of different size? Checked. Cover for the ironing board? Checked. Plastic boxes for organizing stuff at home? Please choose your colour. Its a really convenient place to find stuff like that and its just so good that I don't need to make 10 trips to find them in different places.

It is located very prominently at the intersection of Jordan Road and Kowloon's main commercial artery Nathan Road. Back in 1995, when I lived in Hong Kong for 4 months on a work assignment, this was one of the stores I would occasionally putz around in. And now in 2024, 29 years later, it is virtually the same and it's like having walked through a time warp. It's like the old-fashioned flagship version of Macy's of Hong Kong and a store full of traditional Chinese goods and products, and some of them exotic. What struck me the most, and I recall the same sentiment back in 1995, was the number of staffers they have. It seems there are more of them than customers, and there are a lot of customers in this 5 story (plus fully stocked basement) store! Some practices are still antiquated. For example, the sister-in-law wanted to buy some dry goods in the basement, and there was an advertised 20% off promotion. To get the promotion, she had to go up to a clerk on the 5th floor to get her receipt hand-stamped. Then she returned to the basement to complete the transaction. It all took maybe 20 minutes, but it did allow us to use their interestingly tiny and slow elevator. As a tourist, it's worth a walk-through just to say you've seen the store and the surrounding historic Nathan Road shopping area.

To combat the heat at night, I cherished the cotton weave breathable blankets that you could only buy in Hong Kong. When I got older, I tried finding one in the states (specifically, NYC Chinatown), but to no avail. So, I would ask my Uncle to help me get one whenever he went back for a visit. Well, this store, Yue Hwa, still has these special blankets for sale. Even though I have 3 of them, I just couldn't help buy another. This store is huge, and I haven't had the time to really browse properly, but I really like what I've seen so far. You can really find some traditional things here, but it can be on the expensive side.

(Cuz c'mon, HK ain't cheap) So I was told this is kinda like the NY equivalent of the 99 cents store, cept it's the 12 dollar store (ok, so a dollar fiddy store, if you will). Got myself all the living essentials (except the god forsaken universal adaptor), and just felt really... complete. Yes, Aeon, you complete me. Come if you need: - house stuff - bathroom stuff - kitchen stuff - school stuff - room stuff - and seasonal & holiday stuff! The Zara in New Town Plaza is located on the third floor, aka the busiest floor as that's where the MTR station is. It's right opposite Gap, and both stores are normally equally crowded. It doesn't help that it's near the area of the mall that is linked to Phase 3 of the mall and Sha Tin Centre and Sha Tin Plaza, as this just makes it even more packed with people who are walking to or from those places. The Zara here, for some reason, is permanently crowded. On weekdays, it's crowded. On weekends, don't even think about coming. It's impossible to get a good look at clothes because there will always be someone in your way. The lines for the changing rooms stretch a mile long, making it hard for people like me who insist on trying anything on before buying to purchase anything. Not to mention that the air conditioning is really weak here! Recently, they rearranged the front section of the store so it's a lot more spacious than it used to be. Possibly the only redeeming factor about this Zara is that the kids' section all the way in always has a load of clothes on sale - think as low as $49 for a tee. Somehow, I find the clothes at this Zara quite a bit tackier than Zara normally is - if I went to the Zara at Central and made a list of all the stuff I liked, I probably wouldn't be able to find half of them here. I think it's because this mall is frequented often by mainlanders due to its proximity on the East Rail Line, so the selection of stuff, to be honest, is a little on the tacky side. I normally skip Zara when I'm at New Town Plaza. Even if I found something I liked, I wouldn't have the patience to stand in a line for half an hour for the changing rooms.
