As far as places to take kids to explore, every city has some variant of a kid's fun center…read more Sometimes, it's wrapped as purely as entertainment, which I'm not opposed, but as a parent, I would like just a little more. Others are wrapped as Science Centers, which as you expect, I'm more keen on. On our travels to Copenhagen, we had a day of free time, and with a kiddo, and snow coming down outside, our destination was... the Experimentarium. As a place that is designed for young minds, and to make learning entertaining, it's does it exactly that. There is a wonderful spiral staircase that takes you up to the various levels of exploration. Highlights include an interactive theater, where you get to move around in a story. Another is an oversized ball conveyer, which when you take your time to play with, gives you an opportunity to really delve into what it takes to move cargo around the world. Neat. On another floor, there is a wonderful food section, which talks about food, how it's made, farms, waste, and how we can do better. For the kiddos, there is a section that includes a bunch of activities with cameras that takes photos across the tasks, so you can bring the fun home. There are plenty of things for them to touch and play with across the entire center, including a Lego section, which makes sense, since Lego was founded in Denmark, and still headquartered. Worth it? Yup. Go again? Yup. Recommend? Yes.

You can bring outside food and drinks but you just can't drink it near the play areas. There is a cafe that serves burgers, fries, hot dogs and pastries. The seating area is big. The prices tend to be a bit more but I think that's just the usual with museums. My family and I had a great time, we spent about 4 hours here.

This place was a bit out of the way of Central Copenhagen (it took us 55 minutes via public…read moretransportation from our Airbnb but we lived south... closer to the airport) but the concept of "one of the largest open air museums in the world" pulled me in. And I wanted to learn more about Denmark and it is touted as a child-friendly place. I brought my two kids ages 4 and 8 plus my adult friend. It is also included on the Copenhagen Card! Essentially, they've rebuilt/restored Danish buildings and houses through history (aside from the mill - the mill is the only building that is in its original spot) all in one spot. They have little workshops where kids can do little crafts and such for an additional fee as well as places to sit and eat throughout the outdoor museum. There is a map (we mostly winged it) and you can walk into the buildings to explore. It did drizzle here and there, but that didn't stop the kids! We went on a Sunday morning and we were the only foreigners there who looked foreign. There were a lot of families there teaching their kids about their own history, though! They do speak English there so no worries. My youngest has multiple food allergies and he couldn't have any of the ice cream they offered there (I got an Equal Eats card for him with everything in Danish, just in case). The employee actually took the card and read through the ingredients list of each ice cream bar one by one. Unfortunately, they all are produced in the same facility so there was a possibility of cross contamination. Thankfully, I brought him food so he didn't starve. I did get myself a hot cocoa (nice and thick, not too sweet, and the homemade whipped cream on top was a good contrast). The kanelsnurrer though? That was great. Fresh from the oven and I must say that Danish cinnamon rolls are superior to what I've had in the US. Sorry. (But not really.) Super fragrant, soft but with slightly crispy edges, and you can actually taste the spices! Towards the end, the kids just played around in the rocks near the Mill and even made friends with some of the Danish kids while the adults took a break! Overall, a good time. They also have an amazing gift shop! We spent a lot more time than expected they're looking at everything. (But they aren't joking when they said it's expensive in Denmark.) Tip: The Classic Car House is right across the street, is included on the CPH Card, and has something for both adults and kids.
