We heard a bit of history of the building, the living conditions for a normal working class family during the Industrialization, Christmas in the years after WW2, and much more. Our guide were a fountain of knowledge, and he were able tell the history in a very empathetic way. We didn't have time to see all the exhibitions, so I definitely have to go back to this museum on my own. I'm also planning to make a excursion with my colleagues from work. A guided tour is only 1500 DKR. Members of traditionally socialist trade unions hare free admission.

My mistake!…read more I happened to be in the general area, wanting to go to a specifically contemporary art museum that was *supposed* to be open but definitely was not. I was cranky about it, but just started heading back towards the city center on foot to see what the world might have in store for me. And what it had in store for me was all of the National Museums! Since I was planning on a museum any way, wanted to snag some WiFi, and it was included with my Copenhagen Card that expired that evening...I mean, why not check it out!? There was a great variety of artistic styles and time periods represented here. So, no matter what kind of art you like, you will find something that you enjoy here. I personally enjoy modern and contemporary art, and since I had been on the hunt for that earlier, that is where I focused my attention. They have a very nice contemporary collection. Visually appealing, colorful, and things I haven't seen before! I really enjoyed everything I got to see, both in the contemporary areas and the rest of the museum. And after wrapping up my art-ing, I got a bite to eat and a very good cup of coffee in the museum restaurant. I had a much nicer time here than I expected to, and should have had this on my must-see list earlier in my visit. Don't make my same mistake!

Along the way, there are different signs you can read, and a little area inside the wall near the top where you can see all the way down to the bottom. With its distinctive spiral ramp, the Round Tower has become a Danish landmark. Here are some notable facts and points of interest: 1.The Hollow Core: the shape of the tower was Denmark's geographical zero point. 2. There is an Observatory which houses a telescope built in 1929. 3. The Library Hall is used for changing exhibits, cultural events and concerts 4. The Spiral Ramp will get you to 10,000 steps easily; it is the only way to the top of the tower and spins 7 1/2 times around the Tower's hollow core. Believe me, you feel those twists as you climb. 5. The Bell Loft is situated above the Library Hall and two floors above the Trinity Church where the bells have rung for hundreds of years. 6. The Platform: once you climb the narrow stairs you are atop and can see all of Copenhagen's charms and Sweden. During the summer there is a kiosk that sells sweet treats 7. The Planetarium: shows the solar system I highly recommend visiting Rundetaarn. It is located in Norreport; beautiful shops and restaurants. This is a Museum you have to visit if you want to understand Danish history. All houses look cute…read moreand romantic, but in reality people had a really really hard life. Especially women- I think. This Frilandsmuseet is actually collection of houses from mostly the 19th century. They are very authentic and you can still feel and smell life at the time. I liked all the buildings, but most impressive was old wooden windmill, yellow spooky hospital and fishermens house. Everybody can find something they like. But most beneficial is to see how fortunate we are to be born in these days. I feel respect for old generations (not only Danish) and also more understand how important education and evolution in every direction connected to life. Even though I have 5 stars, I think there may be little bit more to add to this place. For example showing original old crafts (smith, fabrics making, cooking, shoe making, beer making, ....) so we could touch, smell and taste flavor as our ancestors. The ponies for kids and carriage for adults were nice, but more hands on activities would be great. I had a lot of fun with my family and hopefully we will be back sometime soon!

We were glad we saved some time to visit this hidden gem, after seeing the main exhibit at Ordrupgaard.

The ceilings especially, with no room the same, are bursting with colorful designs and patterns. Combine this with the floors, which are beautiful mosaics, you get an incredible atmosphere. Moving on from the building itself, the statues are all incredible. With an enormous array of art, it is hard to find something you don't like. Given, some are better than others (obviously), but I can assure you that you'll be able to learn a lot and see a lot walking around the building. Another thing to note is the personal collection of artifacts and books of the artist. It is filled with Greek and Roman pottery, coins, century-old books, and much more. This covers three or four rooms, and this is just as fascinating as the rest.

This is an immense museum for sculpture, the colors of the building outside and inside are noteworthy and cool. In brief, neo-classicism which Bertel is famous for, is about bigger than life almost hyberbolic (and romantic) representation of a subject. Don't laugh, that's the simplest I could describe Thorvaldsen's sculptures from what I've learned at the museum. I always wondered why a Scandinavian would be in Italy learning from the masters because you see his work in Roma. It turns out Bertel was very gifted, he won a 'scholarship' of sorts from the monarchy to go to Italy and perfect his art. He came back to Danmark to a heroes welcome after many years of studying in Italy. He was so revered by the monarchy, his museum sits next to the Christianborg palace...... must be nice. I'm not well versed with appreciating sculpture but from a gut level, his works rock and garner many many appreciation points from me. One less star: The free audio tour was on old pseudo iPod lookin' mp3 player on Windows OS, yuch, failed miserably and had to swap it twice. Visits: 2 Tip: If you're in CPH for a couple days, get a Copenhagen card as this is one of the museum freebies. The basement (coat check and lockers) is haunted. I went upstairs and asked and the front desk had very cool and interesting stories to tell about 'sightings''. Bertel is buried in the courtyard and you can look out from the first floor.

In the interior of the castle, visitors may see Christian IV's bedchamber and other rooms, the Treasury with the Danish crown jewels, etcetera. I unfortunately did not have tickets to tour the inside of the castle, but based on online photos, I really wish that I had bought tickets so I could see the historic, fancy rooms. I did, however, spend much time walking around the exterior of the castle. The architecture looked gorgeous. Then I walked through the garden, for which I wrote a separate Yelp review, and then I saw the moat with fish and the drawbridge leading to the castle. I recommend that tourists visit this castle.

Grand, simple & elegant garden. The inside was just amazing from room after room, from one level to the next and you got to down into the jewel in the basement for the grand jewels plus others. Just simply magnificent, I didn't have time to be bored or a break from it cause everything just connect from one to another. Everything just has that cozy but yet loyal vibe. Love it, and I think this is the best & my favorite I seem so far.
