Al-Andalos - Some of the best food on this planet

Everything in the platter was delicious, but the falafel in particular was out of this world!!! It was so different from the falafels I'm used to. It's crunchy on the outside. And these falafels are HUGE! My friend lives in Berlin and this is her favorite place to eat. Come here if you have the chance, you won't regret it.

Locate the place and order the most recommended dish. Al-Andalos is located in the busy part of Neukölln, right on Sonnenallee. On a Saturday night at 10 p.m., it was full to the rim. No seats, stressed out staff, people fight for seats and the spot in the line to get the delicious food. We ordered the Al-Andalos platter for two (meat) for 11 EUR, which comes with an entire package of Arabic/Lebanese bread. We were barely able to finish the entire plate, there are many tasty things on this plate and even my companion that night, who is generally not so quickly to impress, admitted that it was probably the best he has eaten in a long time. Fresh, tasty, large portions and fair prices. Staff is super friendly and attentive! I think I will have to drive out to Neukölln more often!

The Babel…read morePlatte for two people was a nice sampling of their mezzes including hummus, baba ghanoush, tabbouleh, falafel, halloumi, pickled turnips/cucumbers/chilies, ground lamb kafta, chicken shawarma, rice wrapped in grape leaves, spinach and cheese pastries, makali (fried zucchini, peppers, potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower), and makdous (preserved stuffed eggplant). The plate also came with several condiments: amba (mango sauce), toum (garlic sauce), shatta (spicy chili sauce), and tarator (tahini sauce). We also got the Grill Teller, which came with an assortment of grilled meats including chicken kebab, lamb kebab, lamb chop, and lamb kafta, along with hummus, salad, and pickles. Everything we had was fresh and flavorful, but my favorite item was the huge falafels, which were nicely seasoned and had a nice crispy exterior. Overall, a great self-service restaurant, where you could help yourself to bread, utensils, and plates--and everything came at a good value too!

Even worse, however, was what happened afterwards: that same evening, I developed severe diarrhea, and my stomach has not felt right since. That day, I had not eaten anything other than a banana in the morning. Given the circumstances, I strongly suspected that the symptoms were related to the food I ate there. Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. The way customers were treated also left a very bad impression on me. When I was standing in the restaurant and was about to place my order, I witnessed one of the employees speaking extremely loudly and rudely to a woman and practically shouting at her. He said things like, "Take your order with you" and "What do you want now?" in an incredibly disrespectful tone. I found it shocking to see a customer being treated in such an unfriendly and aggressive manner. Overall, this was an absolutely disappointing experience for me -- both because of the food and because of the way customers were treated. I did not feel comfortable there at all and definitely will not be coming back.

Order at the counter, wait for your number to be called and voila: enjoy your Shish Taouk plate piled with juicy chicken pieces, a small salad, pickled veggies and accompaniments and a hummus so creamy you'd want to slather it all over yourself. The presentation is very rustic and I love that it filled me up for an affordable price. Sit outside on one of the benches and people watch: you might even see an Adonis walk by.

I guess this place gets mostly takeout business but they do have tables in the back area of the restaurant. I ordered the chicken platter and I think it came out to be around 10 Euros which isn't bad at all for dinner. The platter came with tons of chicken, sauce, fresh vegetables like tomatoes and red bell peppers. For the price that you pay, you get a lot of delicious food. However, I did notice that the man who took my order taking out prepped chicken from the microwave. I don't know if the chicken I ate went into the microwave but honestly, I couldn't tell the difference. It tasted good. I recommend this place for anyone looking to get some tasty Lebanese food at a good price.
