I'm going to go against the grain and give this spot a full five stars (I'm a little surprised at…read morethe star rating for this place!). It was our last night in Germany and our friends hosted a big family and friends dinner for everyone at this riverside restaurant, which really killed it (in my opinion) on food, ambiance, and overall charm. We were seated upstairs which allowed for a wonderful semi-panoramic view of the Rhine. The Rhine was a hallmark of our German adventure so it seemed fitting to fair adieu to it over some traditional regional fare and beverages. My sister and I were looking for something different to have for dinner so we both selected something we hadn't heard of but when I did a quick google search learned it was a dumpling in a sort of stew. This one had a mushroom focus and all I can say is WOW. I can't remember the dishes name, but holy cow. We don't really do dumpling dishes like this in the states and it was really delicious. Both of us cleared our plates. I had one last German beer in Germany (spoiler alert they taste the same due to the rigorous brewing standards), and had one final glorious meal amongst friends. This spot would be great for a date or dinner with family. The only critique I have is that my drink order got lost in the shuffle but it was quickly remedied. Overall, I'd eat here again if I found myself in the area.

Is this place touristy? Well, I'm a tourist and I recommend it…read more Bastion is in the front yard of the old fort. It's got excellent views of the Rhine and the surrounding town. The service was horribly slow when we visited on a sunny Saturday. The food is very good and fairly priced. If you go, plan on staying for a while.

The food isn't bad! Though overpriced. A large bottled water costs 8 euros?! Insanity. My lunch…read morecost $30 and included a Caesar salad, a side of bread, and a bottle of water. Overall, I enjoyed salad and the portion sizes were very large. I would've let that slide and left a 4-5 star review, because hotel restaurants do tend to be pricier for the quality. However, I bumped my rating down to 2 stars because of the service. While I was staying at the hotel, I decided it would be nice to bring my laptop and work in the patio area while having lunch. The patio area was close to empty (it was around 2pm) and there were several other men working on their laptops as well. As soon as I finished my food, I started getting dirty looks from the waitress. She kept stopping by my table asking if I wanted anything else. I kept saying I was fine, thank you. Finally, she asks "can I get your check?" When I said yes, she came up with some elaborate story as to why I had to go inside to check out and essentially asked me to leave my table to check out. Had the restaurant been busy, I would've been fine with being rushed out. The two men I saw also working on their computers did not get rushed out. This is completely unacceptable and I would never expect this treatment from a female waiter. That being said, I had previously eaten at the restaurant, and the two other waiters who helped me (both male, one German and one Indian), were both fantastic and very friendly!
