a perfect German dish
Jayoun L.

If you want to have a perfect German dish for day out with friends, this is it. But music is too loud inside and people are smoking at entrance door. :( Friendly staffs and good food.

Great food, service, and atmosphere. We visited around 1:30 p.m. and the place was packed with locals on their lunch breaks. I like that they give you a choice of meats when you order the schnitzel (chicken breast or pork) as we've had lots of pork schnitzel during our trip throughout Germany and no chicken. The cordon bleu was amazing, with very flavorful cheese and perfectly breaded pork (you also have the choice of a veal cordon bleu). The fried potatoes were absolutely delicious and a nice change from the french fries that most places serve (though you can pick french fries if you prefer). The beer was served super cold and the waitress spoke very good English. We felt welcome despite being amongst the locals - I would highly recommend this place for tasty, authentic German food.

Pork schnitzel, fried potatoes, mushroom cream sauce, Bitburger

Food was super delicious. I loved the coziness of this place. Staff was friendly. Server saw me struggling with the German menu (using google translate) and offered me an English menu. I had the pork schnitzel with mushroom cream sauce, fried potatoes and a "small" Bitburger. I would definitely go back.

Schnitzel with mushroom sauce (aka Jägerschnitzel). It was absolutely perfect.

Excellent food and perfect atmosphere for a quality dinner. Of course had to start with a namesake Bitbuger. I had the Jägerschnitzel while others in my party had Rumpsteak and Schitzel Frankfurt style. All we're done just right.

A good friend of mine loves Bitburger. So when I saw this place down the street from my hotel i had to stop in. I came in for a beer and i am glad that i did. Next time i will have a beer and stay for dinner.

Pepper steak. Out of this world and full of flavor!

Atschel - Wiener schnitzel with salad and potatoes

A no frills establishment serving up some fine German cuisine!…read more Inside is rustic and warm. The staff is standing behind the bar, waiting to greet you. And you're immediately sat at bench like accommodations. We had our dinner a bit early since we had just landed, but keep in mind during busier hours, you may have to share your table with another party. We ordered the spaetzle, the vegan schnitzel, a lemonade and an apple wine. It took a bit but everything (but the drinks) were delivered piping hot and generously portioned. The spaetzle itself was cheesy and tender, with a lovely pile of caramelized onions on top.The salad provided helped to cut through the richness. The apple wine was nice and tart. And for 3 euros they pour with a heavy hand! The vegan schitznel, could not tell it was vegan as all. Very similar to chicken, with a crisp outer shell. The herb sauce served on the side was a nice burst of freshness on an otherwise heavy dish. The staff was overall kind. Maybe a bit slow, but nothing to scoff at. The food was great, the alcohol was cheap. What better way to start off your German adventure?

I took a bus there so I can't comment on the parking situation in the area. Ambiance (4/5): From the outside, Atschel looks like a homey, traditional restaurant. Which is exactly what I was looking for when it cam to my first dining experience in Germany. There's a charming inside area with wooden walls as well as a patio area in the back. I sat inside. Drinks (4/5): Frankfurt is known for apelwein or apple wine. So when in Rome...I had the apelwein spritz which adds soda and Aperol. I will say that straight up apelwein is not my jam. It's nice to try while you're in Frankfurt, but it's too bitter and vinegar-ey for me. With that being said, when you mix it in with Aperol and soda, it's pretty solid. And if you're in a group, you can get the apelwein served in large stone mugs which is pretty cool. Outside of that, they have a lot of beer, as you would expect, and pretty much everything else. Service (4.5/5): I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and attentive the service was (which is typically not the norm in Europe). Our waitress checked on me, thanked me and said goodbye as I was leaving, and overall, did a great job. Food (4/5): Since this is a traditional German restaurant, I had to go with another Frankfurt specialty: Viener schitznel with green sauce. Schnitzel just means a thin cutlet (often pork) that is breaded. The green sauce is made from seven herbs and while it's a tad bit herb-ey for my taste, it was still interesting to try. The dish is served with fried potatoes. Filling and hearty as you would expect from a German meal. For my first meal in Germany, it was a great start to my trip.

Nice ambience and staff all speak English and are good at suggesting dishes to try! Beware portions are large - even by American standards!! My partner and I got 2 apps and a main to share and could not finish. We got the hand cheese music(?), beef sausage salad and a mushroom schnitzel. The schnitzel was by far the star of the show (as we should have expected)! The cheese is famous so we had to try it but sheep's cheese is a bit too strong for me and it had a harder texture than I prefer. My partner liked it though so I'd recommend giving it a shot if you're adventurous!! We also got their homemade lemonade which was a fizzy raspberry lemonade. Pretty good as well but wish I had tried one of their ciders!

Probably won't be back, unfortunately. If you like well lit, upscale, generic restaurants try this one out. The food is good but the ambience is off.
