However, as some reviews have pointed out, the refs can be very bad and make very biased calls. I've been ran into full speed in the back on breakaways, challenges that could've seriously injured me, only for the ref to call it a fair challenge. Meanwhile, if I challenge someone shoulder to shoulder in a fair play, it's called a foul if my opponent flails enough and looks at the ref. If I were you, I'd avoid Bedford Armory and Lower East Side, where I had experiences with those bad refs. The Brooklyn Bridge one was ok maybe 30% of the time (literally gave me a yellow card for defending his call while ignoring the entire opposing team hollering at him for it). The officials tend to ref the same fields every week. You risk getting injured due to the random nature of their officiating and inability to control games. I'm not sure if it's due to improper training or bias towards certain groups of players and favor towards others as some have pointed out. Whatever it is, it is completely unacceptable for me personally. My dad tore his ACL playing in his adulthood -- I don't want that to happen to me. I may try one more season if a good discount ever rolls around again, but I think I'll see how the refs and players are like around the other NYC leagues afterwards before deciding to come back ever again. It is what it is. I don't expect this review will be received by ownership well, but idrc at this point. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Please remember that before you crash out on this, Tarek.

Tarek, I am not Yelp poster…read moreJohn D - that is not a fake account made by me and I'm not sure what lead you to believe I'd go through the lengths to do something like that. Please stop these assumptions and attempts to tarnish my reputation. I think you've already done enough. While it's unnecessary & futile to defend my character, I'll do it once more anyway. I decided to NOT leave an online review until now because I was still planning to play in the league. Yes we've had disagreements but I wasn't going to let that keep me from playing soccer. I enjoyed the location / day of week & didn't need to be a sore loser about you clearly not being a huge fan of me. But it seems you had another idea in mind and it appears you attempted to ban the team from joining again (as we planned) based off of some pretty unfair reasoning and false accusation. It seems you have tried to punish them for continuing their relationship with me. It appears you were successful in forcing them to choose - me or continue playing soccer at that location on Sundays. I have decide to speak up now after learning of what happened and hearing what you've been telling people that I've done - I feel others have the right to know how players like me are being treated behind the scenes. I'm going to go ahead and attach the email that Tarek has referenced & some screenshots for full transparency, along with the following clarifications to his claims for anyone still reading all of this nonsense: - Our team did show up for our last game during the downpour. I was there. I walked to the field with a sub for your team actually, a blonde woman, from Russia or Switzerland I believe? We laughed at the waterfall of water coming from the bridge underpass - it broke my umbrella. She asked if I was on [YOUR TEAM NAME] and I said no. She said someone from your team, a coworker of hers, had reached out the night before and asked if she could help because the team didn't have enough players. I met my captains at the sidelines and they let me know they had just forfeited - we were only able to get 4 of our roster there with the crazy weather, that much of what you said is true. The field was already flooding at that point. The rest of the team assumed the game would be rescheduled and didn't want to make the walk from the train in the downpour. It never was. - I did not demand field support in an email to you, the ball comment was an off hand comment. A small part in a larger email that was addressing the increasingly shorter & shorter game times we were experiencing. (Context: If D1 & D2 games before us ran long - our D3 games would be shortened on the fly to make up for the time.) I get that my emails must have been very annoying to you but you have misrepresented how I acted & how you had actually replied. Throughout our emails you had always implied that sharing my feedback was helpful to the league as it was growing. I had thought that I would be allowed to voice these concerns field side as well but I learned the hard way that I should NOT have talked to you right after you had just finished playing. So Let's wrap this up & move to that. - I feel your recall is incorrect regarding our field side interaction. I wasn't angry that we lost (we lost 90% of our games, we got used to it fast). I was angry that several times during the game, you made calls and stopped play on behalf of the ref. At one point in the heat of competition, you threw the ball off the field so our team had to chase the ball down. I felt you abused your powers as an owner to advantage yourself & your team. After the game - I asked if I could speak to you and you said yes. I tried to talk but you realized I was voicing a complaint and cut me off right away. I tried to continue so you repeated "just find another league" over and over, louder and louder, until teammates of yours surrounded me and told me to walk away. I apologized, admitted it was stupid to try to talk to you then and walked away.

Well, that's not completely correct. I actually knew it when my friend first mentioned it. How could Roller Derby not be an amazing night? Our tickets said the doors opened at 6:30 but no show until 8. We showed up about 7:20, mistake #1. Note to all potential roller derby attendees, GET THERE EARLY. It was already packed by the time we showed up, and we kind of had to squeeze in to get seats. If we had been more than two people, we probably would have had to split up. Now to the action, Gotham Girls Roller Derby is no f*cking joke. These girls are out to bust some asses. And, of course, my former borough of Queens showed the Bronx who is boss. Great win, great time, count me in again. And, yeah, I totally have a crush on Suzy Hotrod.

But they didn't ask me to show any body parts :-( , not sure who got the better of that one... lol definitely something that everyone should do.

We were supposed to start the game on Sunday and we didn't receive a confirmation email about our roster and start times until Thursday night around 8 pm. In addition , the league did a terrible job of balancing the rosters. There were 3 teams in our coed league and one other team consisted of free agents. We had 4 girls on our team and the other team had 8 girls on theirs. Usually this is fine but league rules has it that you need at least 3 girls to play on defense and a girl has to kick once every 4 turns. Also one of our games the ref was late over an hour. Finally , they schedule double headers so the games run late. We had to call two of our games since they were running late. One we couldn't see anything in the pitch dark so we called it for a safety issue. The other game we had to end our playoff game early. We had a chance to kick since we were bottom of the inning but zogsports referee said since the Game was running late whoever scores first wins the game. Felt like we got cheated. It doesn't help that they take 30 minutes plus to explain the rules each game. They also have happy hour deals after the game but the bars are so far away it's not feasible.

This is from a while ago but 5 out of 7 cornhole games were cancelled by Zog and Zog refused to…read morerefund us for this. In our correspondence with Zog, they blamed the bar that hosted the games for not communicating with them properly (cancellations were often due to the space being used by the bar for another purpose) and said that that was why we would not be refunded, as it was the fault of the bar and not Zog, calling the bar "unreliable". However, it shouldn't matter as we paid Zog for a service that we did not receive and if they have an internal issue between them and the bar, we shouldn't be the ones financially penalized. The lack of logic here is the crux of the issue. Additionally, for each cancellation we were either told at the very last minute about the cancellation, and one time we were never told at all and found out when we showed up. The games being around 9pm made this highly inconvenient. There was even a time that the ref compromised with the bar who needed the space by allowing one cornhole set out (usually there's 2) so that only half the teams could play; my team was not one of those able to play. Two of the games were cancelled due to an unavailable referee, which makes you think it's important to have one. Turns out, it's not. He wasn't even in the same room while we played (all our 2 games). I don't blame him - it would be impossible for him to keep score because there are simultaneous games. But besides coming into the room once or twice to ask how we're doing, the ref is not involved. This is fine, but then again, why are we paying the price that we are? From our 2 very expensive games, we noticed that because of the amount of people per team (6), there isn't that much game time for each person. All of these things make it hard to justify the price tag for this.
