Pirates of Saginaw bay is a great hot sauce brand they carry as well as a lot of other northern Michigan esthetic things. They've been around over 100 years and they don't distribute much which makes coming to the store that much special. You can park while hauling a trailer no problem, and they have a fun candy corner. 5/5!

Still, there were so many items in the store that it felt "busy" and a little confusing. If you like many choices, this is your place. You could spend all day examining all the varieties of cheese, in all shapes and sizes. In addition, they have candy galore and all sorts of various crackers, sauces, etc. We found the motel and leek cheese and stopped there; I'm a mushroom hunter and anything morel has my attention. We paired the cheese with flavorful flatbread crackers. What a delicious snack. A few bites is enough to satisfy. The rolls of Amish butter also caught my eye. I brought one home and we have been using it with a movie-night popcorn treat. Excellent! The people were helpful, our food choices are delicious, and we would return. The only point off is for the "crowded" and a bit commercial feel of the store itself. Takes away from what they do best: offer great cheese.

Wilson's Cheese Shoppe - Motel and leek Jack cheese: just enough zip and lots of flavor paired with crisp flat bread crackers. What a treat.

Despite its location [I live in the city, so most of my home state of Michigan seems either 'rural'…read moreor 'inconveniently located' by default], I was pleasantly surprised by how many customers would regularly stop in in the short period [believe me, it was inhalation more than eating!] in which I ate my ice cream. And I can really see why. Marietta, the owner, really takes pride in the hand-dipped ice cream and frozen custard she sells. She even has a breakdown of how 'thickly' her main ingredients are mixed into her custard on the counter, to assure hungry customers that they are receiving nothing but the best, and not some watered-down, overpriced mainstream chain fare. There is always a vast variety of ice cream flavours to please even the pickiest of frozen fare eaters, and the custard is truly to die for! Every time I end up back in Michigan, this place is on my must-go list, and this visit, I tried the chocolate chip almond coconut ice cream. I'm not even a huge fan of ice cream in the summer months, but this was AMAZING!! Just the right amount of everything, with little melt-in-your-mouth mini chocolate chips to offset the sweetness of the coconut. My husband had some sort of double Dutch chocolate concoction, which despite being a double scoop in a waffle cone -- and despite his skinny build -- was literally obliterated in seconds. Hot food is also served here, so we shared a platter of well-done french fries [we're into the crispy!] and hot dogs. I almost couldn't eat any ice cream, which was the whole reason we came in the first place, once we finished, but it's incredible how a girl's body can suddenly digest a little faster just so she can fit the sweet stuff in afterwards :P We ended up taking home almost 2 pints of ice cream with us, and they were naturally polished off before we left the state! The prices are incredibly reasonable, and cannot be replicated by any store-bought ice cream, no matter how expensive they are. What can I say, I'm spoiled! So if you're in the Sanford area and are dying in this sweltering summer heat, this is the perfect place to cool down and enjoy a sweet treat! I just wish she was in California, too!
