I would concur with those negative reviews. Management is a real problem. Butler Plaza is the ONLY company I have ever filed a complaint against. (They broke the law in their handling of the COVID-19 crisis by closing Capitol Fitness and then claiming they had a right to charge for a membership anyway. And they lost that battle, but man, what a fight.) I think another review also mentioned their elevator. It has real issues. I got stuck on it--between floors--for over an hour. And the management were extremely rude about getting me out. In retrospect, I should have called 911, but I didn't want to be dramatic. I never even got an apology. I thought about leaving 1 star, but the location is very nice. With that being said, if you can afford a place at Butler, you have a lot of options. I'd look elsewhere.

When every washer and dryer was flooding and not working, they put up signs saying it wasn't their job to fix it and it was the TENANTS' responsibility to call the company and fix them. Only when a dryer lit on fire with all of someone's clothes inside of it do they decide it might be their job. And it still took weeks to have functional machines. They also charge you $300 if you lose your keys. Both my roommates asked if they could find their own locksmith (which should only cost 50-100), but of course, our CHT schemers make sure to trap you in your lease with THEIR locksmith who is $300. And then of course, they lied to my roommates about it, saying their locksmith was the only one who had the ability do it. They don't seem to think anyone is smart enough to just read the lease and see they are lying! Everything will break in your apartment quickly. AC doesn't work yet you're being charged crazy money for the electricity. When my AC stopped working, I politely went to ask when I might expect it to be fixed. They were extremely rude to me and said their maintenance workers were too busy fixing the AC of all the other CHT buildings that they had not a single idea when they might get to my apartment. So their excuse was that all of their buildings have no AC. All while being extremely rude to me! CHT sucks- they lie, they are lazy, and frankly selfish. Just as the landlord trope predicts. Thanks CHT, I'll never live here again and I'll make sure no one else I know does either. My biggest shame is you already have my money.

Whenever we needed something fixed they responded to our requests in a timely fashion. The staff in the main office is always so kind and remembered me by name every time I came to get mail. This apartment complex is in a great location and is the perfect place for any college student! I would highly recommend living here! I've seen several bad reviews on here but I can attest that I haven't had a bad experiencing living here for three plus years.

It is very quiet, clean and well taken care of. All two bedroom apartments are on the first floor and have a storage room and a patio. All one bedroom apartments are on the second floor and have a spacious attic for storage and a small balcony. We've lived in a one bedroom apartment and loved it! When we were searching for apartments about three years ago, this was the only place in Madison we could find that had central heat. Most Madison apartments have electric heat that runs about $200 a month in winter - ouch! The garage that we leased at Elka Lane apartments was totally worth the money, especially in winter. Most maintenance requests were taken care of the same business day. All six building are smoke free! Cats are allowed for a small monthly fee. There is a laundry room in every building. The landlords are very professional and reasonable people. We enjoyed living in Elka Lane apartments and highly recommend them.
