The Plaza District has no shortage of cool and unique spots. Vintage stores, sneaker shops,…read morerestaurants and murals, it's only fitting that the Plaza District should also have a rad bar. A name fit for a king, Rad Bar is definitely it. I travel the country for a living and on this particular day I was fortunate to have a business meeting just down the street. Work done, it was now time to unwind. Enter Rad Bar. Entering the limo tinted doors, I see lights and art, I hear golden era hip hop, and feel a whole lotta good vibes. Divey for sure but this wasn't just an ordinary dive bar. Take a look up and you'll spot bar decor and collectibles all just awesome as the drink specials and the beer menu. But the buck doesn't stop at the beer. Cocktails are served and while the drinks are mixed and poured, the best and most diverse music plays across the speakers. While I hung out for a couple hours I learned that Rad Bar hosts guest DJ's, bands and other unique events. For context, I was born and raised in Koreatown Los Angeles, thousands of miles from home but within minutes of entering the doors and meeting Jo Jo at the bar, her welcoming energy made me feel at home. You get the feeling that the folks running this joint really enjoy what they do. That they care about giving the community something to call home. A place where all can feel welcome. I got that feeling.

What drew my focus to the rad bar was the huge mural on the side of the face looking outward. The…read morecolors are so vibrant and realistic. As for the bar it was a little early but I was able to check parts out. It's classified as a dive bar with casual eats. They have an upstairs dance floor accessed thru a secret bookshelf door and great graffiti type art. Great spot for late night (open til 2) as well as a weekend brunch. I will be back to try tht. I was after the art today

She said "yeah I just don't have the cherries or syrup" I told her that the original was made in 1880 and it didn't have any of that stuff in it except a quality rye whiskey. Then you stir it with bitters and sugar. Serve over a block of ice. She said "I've been trained and I've been bartending for 10 years. " I said " the drink is older than us and was invented before you and I were born." She asked what whiskey I'd like. She didn't have any Bullet brand or Woodford so she offered a Pinhook brand rye. It was $10.40 for a small 2 Ozs and she asks how much bitters..and sugar. (Didn't she just tell me she knew how to make an old fashioned? ) and that she'd been bartending 10 years. Then she dumped a 1/2 glass of chipped ice on top and asked if I wanted it stirred. I told her "sure" Hell she had it so full of ice she couldn't stir it and it watered down the drink. We'll come back for the music and ask a manager to correct everything. The customer is always right and I didn't need the attitude from you. I tipped your jar anyway snowflake.

I still remember the pride when Dirks Bentley wore the CCR shirt on the awards show. I love their music. I still hit Spotify all the time. Thank you. Second thank you. A BIG one for inviting Will Hoge. I have followed him for almost 19 years now. I have seen him live many times. In fact.... I saw him in Austin the night before I saw him at Grady's. Epic show in Austin. Magical. I live in El Reno. I haven't always. So I would be and am grateful for any live music near me. I will go over and spend a bill. Drink. Laugh. Sing. As often as I can. I think Mr. Cross for even giving me that opportunity. Now. The lights. The sound system. All the buffering built into the walls. It is a great place to listen to music because I think Mr. Cross knows music. But.... the high top tables in front of the stage. No. People come and stand. And when I am sitting... I cannot see. I got there at 6:30 pm for a 8:00 pm show to claim my spot. My first number is not a 2. It is a 4. I loved that all the people who were there and their first number was a 2.... and they knew Will's songs. And sang. Support the music. Yes. But when they were standing in front of me.... blocking my well staked out view of the stage.... I was annoyed. Low top tables please. The bouncer cleared all the glass and bottles in a timely manner. I get that. Appreciate it. I saw bar fights often in dive bars when my first number was a 2. I appreciate the staff. Glass is dangerous. The Bloody Mary that the nice girl hobbling around in a boot made me... really good. All the staff .... very nice. She was great and I tipped her well. Ask her. So grateful. Really. That Will was invited and came. Thank you. And I know it is a dive bar. I have been in so so many. And I will return to this one. I just hope next time... may be there will be a few low top tables and chairs in front of the stage. And may be a watchful bouncer that will help encourage the lively people who stood in front of me and basically took over the show... will be reined in a bit. Mr. Cross. Respectfully. You are a delight. I thank you for the bar. It's been a great success. I hope it continues to be. Respectfully. A very enthusiastic fan of Live music. And I have a credit card... and I am certainly willing to give you my money if I can see the Band not the back of another patrons head all night long.
