We transited through here to get to Salzburg and see a few nearby castles while in town for 9 days. We found it a bit more confusing to navigate than the Central Station but were easily able to find snacks and foods for lunch and find our platforms.

We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.

Some reviews ding the hotel for its location, but it's not bad. Karlsplatz and the pedestrian district are a short walk away. I would stay here again.

Not too pricey, and a fairly quick tour of the city (under an hour). It's a hop-on, hop-off bus…read moretour, but there aren't really many places that you want to hop-off. Only seven stops. They provide cheapy headphones for you to listen to the pre-recorded audio track if you don't speak German (which is blaring over the loudspeakers in the bus). Nothing really special, and if this is what city bus tours are like, I probably won't do any more in the future. They have a couple other routes to try, as well, but I can't imagine that they are any better than the main city tour that I took. So here's the funny part: my wife was commenting that our driver was very aggressive, but I didn't really agree... until he rear-ended someone!! So that delayed us a bit while they worked things out...

We had a choice of three routes and chose the Red route which mainly goes though the middle of Munich. This bus tour service helps to familiarize you with essential areas and also gives you some simple history along the way. Nicely priced and you have the option of using your pass to get around if you're tired of walking. I had a good camera and sitting on the top level ( the bus had two levels) I was able to take quite a few very nice photos. That was a bonus! You're up a little higher so it worked well. Do this as a tourist to get your bearings or the city. :)

There are so many things I love about this hotel. The small feel and staff is what makes it stand out. The room- SO SO SO SMALL- but accommodating and comfortable. There are shelves that fold out from the wall to provide additional space. The décor gets me every time. The elevator so cool. As if you were in a lift up to go skiing in the alps. Extremely small though- I took the stairs multiple times - claustrophobia! The reception area and lobby was inviting. They have a bar there that is open 24 hours. They serve awesome beer and late night snacks. Food was meh but if you've been drinking all day it does the job! The staff is what made this hotel five stars for me. They were all SO helpful and nice. Every day they suggested places to visit and restaurants to try. We are going back in a few years and will definitely stay here again.
