Safe Italian option in Windsor, staff is friendly but the service can be slow and it is very loud. Bathrooms are always a mess.

    Zizzi at Night

My coworkers & I were here on a business trip in August & had stayed in Windsor. There were a VARIETY of places to eat at & Zizzi was one that we all eyed on. Every time we passed by this hot spot there was always a long wait. So finally on our 3rd try we were convinced by the cute server to stay & wait for a table that was almost done ONLY cuz they don't do take away on salads! This was on a Thursday night after 7pm & we got seated after waiting about 15 min. Any longer I would've opted for Mickey D's next door! I had the following -- **Bruschetta Al Pomodoro: Toasted garlic ciabatta heaped w/ fresh tomato, basil & red onion w/ a drizzle of olive oil. This was a simple & tasty appetizer. **Insalata Cacciatore: Juicy confit duck & crispy pancetta crown a salad of mixed leaves, lentils & spring onion w/ Grana Padano cheese & balsamic vinegar. Ohhhh myyy, absolute DELISH! One of the best salads I've had yet during my stay here! Great ambiance, clean spot & friendly servers. Only thing that bothered us is that everything was slow. Maybe it's within the European culture that they take their time in everything they do & enjoy it as it is, unlike us "fast-paced" Americans?! =P Anyhooo, we were looking for a quick dinner but it ended up to be 2 hours long. Regardless, it was a pretty good dinner & with great company!

The restaurant is located in a touristy area, it gets really busy. Stopped in for an appetizer ( Mushroom) Wasnt really impressed or happy with the food. Ordered the MUSHROOM BRINDISI Creamy mushrooms & smoked mozzarella oven baked on our dough, then finished with chopped parsley, grated riserva, crispy sage & smoked garlic oil. it was more bread than Mushrooms. Above all the servers were nice.

I went here for the first time about a month ago. LOCATION: This location is in a busy area because Windsor Castle is right nearby, but it's not too crazy. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: The ambiance is okay. If I had a suggestion, it'd be switching out the chairs because the basic wood look just looks too basic and boring, and I think by doing a simple switch of just those would make the restaurant seem much more cozy and inviting, instead of giving off harder vibes lol. 3/5 SELECTION: It's an Italian chain restaurant, so they have pizzas, pasta, etc. They also have a separate vegan menu, which is nice, except that you have to ask for it. I think it'd be nicer if they just included it in the regular menu. 3/5 WHAT I GOT: I got the Vegan Lentil Ragu. You have the option of getting it with wholewheat penne pasta or non-gluten containing fusilli pasta. I ordered it with the fusilli because while I'm not allergic to gluten or have celiac disease, I typically eat gluten-free because gluten tends to be hard on my digestive system. So anyways, when I ordered it, I said, "can I get the Vegan Lentil Ragu with the fusilli?" and the waitress said, "with what?" and I repeated "with the fusilli pasta," making sure to point to it on the menu too. So it seemed like she got it down. But, when it came out, it was the wholewheat penne pasta. Usually, I'd speak up and say that's not what I ordered, but we had already waited nearly an hour for our food, even though it lowkey wasn't even that busy (but more on that below). So, I didn't feel like waiting any longer and had to deal with having gluten in my system. It was disappointing. At least it tasted okay. The pasta was cooked thoroughly, the sauce was fine (although I wish there was a little more), and the lentil mix was alright too. It wasn't amazing, but at least it wasn't overly oily, salty, undercooked, or spoiled -- just trying to think positive lol. But yeah, I was still disappointed that the waitress got my order wrong, but I was too starving and upset from waiting too long to ask for my actual order. 3/5 SERVICE: So yeah, the service was super slow (like I said, it took nearly an hour for food for four people to come out), despite them not being terribly busy or anything. And, the waitress clearly didn't know how to put my order in correctly or something, even after my clarification. Overall, my experience here was way worst than I expected. 2/5

    "Garlic" bread

I didn't rate it. I know it is somewhat naive to expect wonders at a chain restaurant, but even with that in mind this was definitely a sub par experience. I kicked off with some cheesy garlic bread. You can't go wrong with garlic bread right? Turns out you can at Zizzi's Windsor. Bread? Check. Cheese? Check. Garlic? Hey, you didn't really want garlic did you? Oh you did?! C'mon, give us a break here. Have some red onion instead, you won't even notice the difference. Onion breath, garlic breath, it's all the same yeah? Moving swiftly on, next up was pizza. I have nothing meaningful to say about this course. It was adequate and unremarkable, satisfactory yet instantly forgettable. It was the Vauxhall Astra of pizzas. Next up was dessert. No-one wanted dessert. However, we were there for a birthday meal. Upon entry I had done the obligatory surreptitious handover of birthday cake and candles to our waiting staff, safe in the assumption they would understand their role in the supposedly often played out scene of dining out theatre for which this prop was a necessity. Sadly I was mistaken... My clandestine attempts to indicate we were ready for the cake went unnoticed or unheeded and eventually I was left with no option but to outright ask for them to bring the cake. The waitress looked at me with a shocked expression and exclaimed "But now it isn't a surprise!" before disappearing to get it. If only she had been able to foster this profound sense of perception several minutes earlier we could at least have all engaged in the charade that it was a surprise. There are a plethora of other places to eat in Windsor, go try a different one.

    Passion fruity, strozoprertti and bruschetta

Good food in a cozy ambience. I had the mushroom bruschetta and the red pesto strozzapretti which were both delish. Also had a Passion Fruity which I loved. My server was very kind and friendly too!

4.5 stars but a little too pricey to merit 5. This place leaves me wanting to write a mass of…read morecontradicting things... Food is stealthily excellent. By that, I mean it didn't initially wow but the flavours were spot on - I was initially unimpressed by a lumpy and possibly watery tomato sauce but it tasted interesting and divine, I'm sure there was a hint of star anise in there. Slightly flaccid ravioli but very very tasty and perfectly seasoned. And the accompanying vegetables were delicious - slightly overdone-looking rosemary potatoes but amazingly tasty and some excellent battered courgettes. Nice bread but butter and had to ask for olive oil (for which I got a strange look, which being an Italian restaurant is strange in itself!!!) Same for the service. I felt it was slightly haughty and they were deeply confused by our order when dispensing cutlery. But on the other hand, they made fresh lemonade on request despite it not being on the menu (though it should have been), and the lovely elderly proprietor circulates and checks on every table personally. A mixed bag then, but a great meal. The menu changes constantly and is a touch pricey, though you can get 2 courses for a superb £15 meal.

An excellent Italian restaurant in Windsor, where the very senior proprietor checks on every table…read moreevery time and the restaurant is filled with pictures of him throughout the "ages". (Seriously, he's like 85 but there are pictures in there from when he was easily in his early 20s.) The food is superb. The ravioli served looked like a limp, wet noodle, but when bit into it was actually firm and the flavors from within explode into the mouth whetting the appetite for ever more food. When the main course was served, I will echo James F. in that the wait staff seemed a bit befuddled as by whom what was ordered and where certain dishes should go. Moreover, for our party of 10, they forgot one of the individuals main dish on the first pass (fortunately, it was a stew that was readily available as that could have ended poorly for them and resulted in several stars knocked off). The dessert choices were plentiful, made fresh that day, and brought for you to view on a dessert platter from which they'll cut the fresh piece instantly. Oh, wine choices... also excellent. I am not a connoisseur by any means but one of the French men in our party seemed to know a lot and was having a conversation with the old Italian proprietor in Italian about the choices and they both seemed very enthused about the bottle with which we ended. (It was awesome, FYI.) Anyhow, I'd highly recommend to any traveler in the area.
