Zizzi may be a chain, but I'm still a big fan of the Cheltenham location. They've converted an old church into a restaurant and have done it well. It's really a nice space to sit in and enjoy a meal. The menu selection is good and while it may not be the most authentic Italian in Cheltenham I have enjoyed every meal I've had there. On top of the good food and nice decore they also frequently have a jazz duet playing dinner, which is really enjoyable. Zizzi's is definitely a favorite spot, especially when we want to go out with a group. read more

I went to Zizzi's recently with a group of work colleagues while we were on a course, and therefore eating on expenses :) The building certainly does have the wow factor. I was torn between finding it a bit sad that a beautiful old building has been turned into a commercialised chain restaurant, and being pleased that it's being used by so many people rather than falling into disrepair or being turned into flats. Food was absolutely top notch and not bad value either - menu prices were fairly standard for a decent Italian restaurant. I'd most highly recommend the starter which involved the goat's cheese and caramelised onions (although I had mine without the onion!) - possibly one of the nicest things I've ever eaten. Service was great - very unobtrusive while still suitably attentive. Just what you want really. Apparently there's an upstairs as well that I didn't see, but it's worth a visit as you can look down over what used to be the altar but is now a pizza oven. Hmmm Well worth a visit though - not your average Italian by any means. read more

I love this place- it has such a WOW factor - definitely the place for a special meal - or a special occasion. The venue is a converted church - and the cooking happens on the alter! The food is fantastic and the service is efficient. The only downside is the lack of parking - especially if you're meeting friends there. Also, on busy nights, you can't prebook your table unless you are a large party. Get dressed up and go and have a look though - it's beautiful. If you get the opportunity, go and sit on the balcony upstairs - you can look down on everything including the chef! read more

Zizzi is a chain of restaurants on par with pizza express on price, food offerings and food quality. At a push, Zizzi is arguably a little more grown up. In general it's a name you can rely on. You can turn up and expect food of a reasonably quality at affordable prices, served by friendly staff. This branch is a little bit special though. They've brilliantly converted a church into a restaurant and the result is a really atmospheric eating space. The main dining area sits in the spacious heart of the church with the open kitchen area sitting in front of a huge stained glass window. An inside balcony of small tables and chairs (for drinks as oppose to food) takes advantage of the height of the building and gives a view onto the diner below. I have to say I read some terrible reviews about Zizzi's around the internet, I am sure it was on qype before but has now dissapeared. See the one on SoGlos anyway for more references. Regardless of hearing bad reviews, I always wanted to try things first hand, especially as Zizzi's was in a beautiful church. The food however, did not live up to the surroundings, sad to say I have had better Italian foods in cheapo pubs! The pasta was not cooked well and tasteless, and the food was very bland and overpriced. The service was also poor. Needless to say we shall not be going again for sure. The one star is for the church and the clean toilets! read more

This Zizzis is like no other. Which in this case is a good thing. It is located inside an old church and the ambience is great. Definitely go again and would recommend it to friends. Best for a group dinner. If you want a quite evening out then you won't find it here. But over all great restaurant. read more
