I recently cancelled my EFT Gold membership due to Management's poor display of customer service. I had a question regarding the $33 I was charged at the beginning of May; and instead of responding back to any of my phone calls or emails, Management choose to ignore me. Over the course of 2 and half weeks: I left messages in-person at the salon, I left messages over the phone, and I sent emails to info@ziptanz.com and to sales@ziptanz.com. Still--no one ever got back to me. In the past, whenever I wrote to sales@ziptanz.com, someone named Jon would reply that same day. But now, I'm disappointed to see that no one at Zip Tanz respects me enough as a customer, to communicate back. Once I realized they were blowing me off, I decided Zip Tanz wasn't getting another dime of my money. I hope my $33 does wonders for them, because they lost my loyalty based on their attitude alone. The situation was simply that for the month of May, I had a chemical peel, laser hair removal done and whole bunch of other things that kept me extremely busy. I wasn't able to make it in to tan for most of the month, but during the last week of May, I called to ask if perhaps, the payment I made for May could be used as a credit towards a future month. I politely expressed that I wasn't trying to cancel my membership, but rather, apply the funds I was charged for May to an upcoming month so that my money didn't go to waste. I even said that I was ok with still being regularly billed for June, July and August, so maybe the May credit could count for September, (or however way they wanna do it). I understand that I was requesting a courtesy, but I didn't think it was too much to ask since I wasn't trying to finagle anything for free. Besides, I've worked in a tanning salon too. I know how to use Helios and Mind Body, and I know one time exceptions can be made. If Management wasn't able to accommodate me, that's fine. They have the right so say, 'No. Sorry. We can't do that'. At least that would have been more professional than avoiding me all together. read more

Zip Tanz changed their monthly membership rules. You now have to do 2 months in order to do sun club membership. There is no such thing as one month unlimited unless you go on the first of the month. This was not the rule 6 months ago so I would not have went here had I have known that. Won't go back. read more

my first time in. I was shocked by how rude the lady at the front desk was. ZERO customer service skills whatsoever. Did not seem like she wants to be here at all didn't want to explain anything or help answer any of my questions and looked at me as if i was dumb. After i still gave this business my money which i shouldn't have because nobody should be treated that way, she just told me what number to go to without showing me the way or explaining how to use the machine. The manager called me and it seems that the person who was at the desk was not fully trained. Therefore a misunderstanding of the charges. The fees charged were correct and they were not pro-rata from March 31, but rather April 1st, as should have been. The difference was a tax %. As well, the new trainee had rung me up for a complimentary lotion, which I had not received. Management provided me with this item. The salon is very clean, always can get in with no or little wait time, new bulbs, and love that there is now a close location that also offers beds. Thank you for taking care of me. read more

I go here for the $39.99 unlimited Versa Spa sessions per month. (Where I used to go [Total Tan SCS] charged $35 for ONE session so this is pretty amazing to me) I always liked coming here because the staff is EXCELLENT in both this and the Clawson location. Tanning reps are usually snotty, lazy, and rude but NOT here. They give you a "free skincare" item when you sign up for their packages, only you couldn't pay me to put it on my skin. I googled the brand/name of it and nothing came up. Pretty sure someone just gets these made on the cheap and tries to make it come off as some extra incentive. Whatever works I guess! The machines work great and I will continue going here each month year round. The only thing that almost lost my recurring business was last month my debit card was stolen on the 1st and it had to be shut off immediately. It took over a week for my new one to come in the mail so I couldn't go tanning the week it was out. Once I got my new one I went right to Zip Tanz to reactivate my account/explain and they actually made me pay the full amount for the month even though it was not my fault my card had to be cancelled and there was less than 3 weeks left for the month. Bad business if you ask me, but I will continue to go here because I don't think anything better will come around any time soon! read more

Rude staff, maybe 12 years old, just left there and once again without tanning.they worked harder to be rude then to take care of the guest. I'm sure they will keep the place dirty and continue to disappoint, planet fitness is $20.00 a month with unlimited tanning. Much better deal and nation wide. Canceling, I will never go back. Low class and tacky place, Establishment and staff alike. Waste of time and money.... not anymore for me. Run away !! read more

I absolutely love the staff and tanning experience at Zip Tanz. The staff is friendly, professional, hardworking, and so incredibly welcoming. I have been a tanning member for many years and truly feel like the Berkley & Royal Oak locations are my "club":). The Lobby, tanning rooms, and booths are always immaculately clean, the bulbs are hot, and I always receive expert advice regarding lotion choices, techniques to obtain my perfect color and top notch, star treatment. Zip Tanz is the absolute best salon I have ever had the privilege to visit! What a fantastic team!!! read more

No towels in the rooms? Kind of odd. Gross to not get to dry off before putting your clothes back on. My tans I bought before expired before I could even use them, thought that was the whole point of buying sessions. Also bought a lotion and then didn't use it when I went tanning because it smelled bad and they wouldn't let me swap it out before I left. Said it's final. ‍ read more

I used to tan through a gym membership so I was a little nervous about going to an actual tanning salon. However, the kind woman behind the desk (I wish I would have gotten her name!) was super friendly and helpful picking out a package that was right for me. She took into consideration my tanning experience and goals and explained everything thoroughly. Customers started coming in while she was helping me and she multitasked effortlessly without breaking a sweat or losing her smile. The equipment is nice, and I can tell it gets wiped down. The bulbs are hot (I haven't seen a burnt out bulb just yet!) they have a wide array of tanning products to buy, which I'll probably indulge in one once I run out of what I'm currently using. Also, another thing that stood out to me: I came in the other day and spoke with another young lady (I was inquiring about the matrix booth/bed) and she gave me her honest opinion on it. She recommended I get a solid base tan before I try it, so I won't waste my money and so I can see results. THAT is the kind of service I like, honesty and not trying to up-sell you any chance they get. I'm very pleased with Zip Tanz and would recommend it to any of my friends and family. read more

Not sure why this place has bad reviews.. Yes it's usually ran by younger girls so customer service might not be A1 but that's all tanning salons. All staff I've talked to are friendly and even complementary. Bulbs are super hot, which is how you should judge a salon. I bought the $60 package on sale for $30 and got a discounted lotion w package.. compared to Club Soleil this place is a deal! read more

Do NOT use this salon (or ANY of the zip tan locations). They will set you up for a monthly membership and when you go to cancel, they will conveniently "forget" to actually cancel your membership. You will continue to get debited. When you bring this up with management, they will basically tell you there is nothing they can do, this after ignoring multiple e-mails. VERY poor customer service, not to mention very weak tanning beds that do not get cleaned between patrons. Very shady and unethical service and I will be reporting them. Bad Business! I've had a membership here for years and years. They talked me into buying a higher package over a year ago. I upgraded the package because I loved that I could spray tan and tan in same day. This is why I bought the package. Today I walk in and they say sorry owner has changed the rules. You can only do one or the other. This is unacceptable and bad business. My package should be grandfathered in on what it included when I purchased it. This is such bad business. I'm sure this isn't even legal. You sell a package for one thing and then change what it includes. I heard people bought this package and he changed rules after one month. Ok be cancelling my package. Theres a lot of good places to spray tan. I guess I'll be going to new one very soon. My advice is get a copy of ur contract. They are taking automatic withdrawals from your checking so they can provide a copy of your package. read more

14 and Woodward location: $40 a month unlimited is a good package deal. It doesn't make up for the service. Every question you ask is met with purposeful heavy breathing and exaggerated eye rolls. I came in at 8:30 once for a 10 minute tan. I hadn't even made it through the door when I was met with "you know we close at 9, right?!?!" And this last time I was in, this same girl (long dark hair, pretty sure she is related to the owner) was so rude to the person in front of me they just stopped talking mid sentence and walked out. I decided enough was enough. I asked to end my membership and was told I couldn't do so for another month. Gotta love fine print!!! read more

I purchased a one month unlimited Gold tanning package specifically for my wedding and was sold on the fact that the sales girl told me it INCLUDED one free spray tan. We talked about how I could use this free spray tan at the end of my month since it was so close to my wedding date and how it would be perfect. She even showed me the booth and how it works during my tour. I felt comfortable with her and had been looking forward to and planning to use my spray tan a couple days before my wedding. And then just to confirm, I asked about a week before my wedding when I was in there tanning what was the last day possible I could use my free spray tan and a different sales girl (with long red hair) told me I could use it on the last day of the month of my membership. Ok confirmed. So, I went in there today to use since I leave for Jamaica on May 2. I was told from a third sales girl that I could NOT spray tan and that there is nothing she can do. And that she doesn't know why those other coworkers of hers told me that I could have one free spray tan with my Gold membership because there should have been a CODE attached to my account for me to be able to use that. I explained to her how I was sold the membership and that it's not my job to know what their codes are and how I had even confirmed just a few days ago that I could spray tan. She just kept telling me over and over again that there is NOTHING she could do and that she could not allow me to use their spray tanner. I asked for her to call a manager or owner and get this sorted out and she told me "my manager is off today". So you're going to tell me that this business has people running it that have zero ability to problem solve, give customer service or reach ANY human that is above them in a management level when an issue needs to be escalated? What if the building was burning down? Would she not be able to reach a manager then? I told her I had been happy with my experience until encountering her and she kept rudely saying, there is nothing I can do without having the "code". And "I am not lying to you". She also kept telling me that she doesn't know that I had those conversations with those other coworkers implying that I was lying. What a joke! Very rude, very disappointing and I will not be back. Your loss because due to this incident, you lost future business. Don't false advertise on the front end. And don't treat your customers like trash and not honor your commitments by expecting your customers to know that a code should be attached to their account in order to use their services! read more

The majority of girls who work there are rude, sometimes laughably rude. Little things will piss them off, they don't care and don't try to hide it.....this is my biggest complaint. The spray tanning is not great, never even and the lotion they provide that you put on your hands/feet doesn't help much-always looks bad afterward anyway. read more

Absolutely the worst experience from the moment I walked in the door! It was my very first time trying a spray tan and the girl behind the desk (dark hair) never smiled and acted as though I was putting her out because I asked a few questions. She was not friendly or engaging what so ever and actually rolled her eyes a few times! The interaction with her was so rude and uncomfortable that I actually walked out! I've been in customer service for over 10 years and have never experienced such disregard and rudeness in my entire life! No kidding! I found out that this girl is actually the manager!
