Going to IU for college, I quickly fell in love with spray tans. When I moved to the metro detroit area, I noticed it was harder to find quick, worth the cost and reliable spray tan places. I've been here a few times - I've used the mystic spray tan machine. The booth spray tans cost $40 each time that I've gone with instant bronzer - personally, I'd say not worth it considering their bed is a mystic and not Versaspa (mystic has given me varied results). The usually cost is $35, but you have to pay an extra $5 for instant bronze (which I have never had to pay for before - it's typically an option to do clear or bronze without an extra charge, but I understand each place is different). The staff is nice - but the pricing is a big turn off for me. I'd say stop in if you're on a time crunch - otherwise find an airbrush place with a quick google search for $10 cheaper. ** additionally, they do have promotions like 3 sprays for $59 (I believe it's around $59). I have done this previously in the fall, but this promotion does not include instant bronze either. read more

I live in Detroit so I tried this place out because it's the closest to me, and I'm so glad I did! The prices are reasonable, the staff is always friendly and not trying to upsell you. It's always clean and I love that they leave you a towel as well. I've been to a few other places in Metro-Detroit, but this is definitely my favorite. Chili Peppers might be slightly cheaper, but they are not as clean and very pushy with selling upgrades and lotions. If you're looking for a tanning salon in the area, this is the best one in my opinion! read more

Highly impressed. Wonderful, relaxing spotless atmosphere, and friendly knowledgeable staff that doesn't try to upsell like there's no tomorrow. The prices here are very reasonable as well. I'm very happy to have Motor City Tan so close to home. The music isn't blaring awfulness, if you want to listen to it, it's a great mix, or you can use your own headphones and/or music storage with the dock on the wall. I've always been a regular tanner but it's been years since I've used tanning lotion, due to the heavy sell and cost. At Motor City Tan, I asked about lotion and said most tanning lotions have such an unpleasant smell, I don't even know where I'd start finding one. The girl that helped me understood my "picky nose" and said she didn't like the smell of fruty lotions for herself, she preferred perfumy, and yes!!, exactly what I think. 1st one she picked was perfect and very reasonable priced. They also have airbrush sunless tanning which I will also try, but the beds are what I really want. 12 minutes of peace in a day. Motor City Tan will not disappoint. I've been going here for 2-3 years and have never had a bad experience.This place has a great motor city theme throughout. Staff is always friendly and prices are extremely reasonable. Yes they may be a little more expensive then one down the road, but you get what you pay for and here it's quality. I have never felt like the beds didn't have good bulbs in them. I'm also a freak about tanning in a clean place and this place is well taken care of. Worth going to if you live in the area! read more

Clean spot where you can go in and guarantee you will come out looking good. The one issue I have with is the parking !! too difficult and I feel like I am always parking illegally. The staff is wonderful and informative. I checked in on Yelp and got an upgrade o yeah!! read more

So far so good. Got the 4 for 4 special and used my first one on the "silver" bed. Place is very clean and the person who helped me is was very nice. Has a decent selection of lotions from my point of view, but I'm not a person that goes tanning a lot. I like that they have eyewear for you, and if you like to flip over you can request ones with a strap. Did not try to sell me on the most expensive lotion or monthly package, which is nice especially for a first time visitor. From what I can tell there are only lay down beds and no stand ups, but I didn't actually inquire, that's just what the pictures show and what I saw. read more

The establishment is always clean and tidy, the staff is more than willing to answer questions and help you out.

So far so good....it's nice to finally have an upscale tanning salon in Ferndale. The owner is very accommodating and really seems to be on top of her stuff. The prices are more than places like Zip Tanz, but this equipment is so much better it's totally worth the extra money. I can't wait to try the sunless option as well one day. I am actually impressed with MC tan. Very clean, I really like that they provide you with a towel AND eye protectors. Most places make you buy the eye wear and don't give out towels so that for me was great. They have a really nice selection of tanning lotion. I have been to multiple tanning salons and I'll have to say that this is one of my favorites!! read more

Wow, what a great tanning salon! The employees are very friendly and super helpful. I started tanning here during "free tan weekend" and got 50% off a lotion and a great deal on a membership. The quality of the beds are way better than your average Chili Peppers Tanning salon. After two days of tanning here I noticed a big difference. Each room is cleaned thoroughly and they provide goggles and a real towel for each tan. There is convenient free parking right in the back of the building, too. read more

This place is great. Only place comparable is Troy tanning co and (that's saying alot) it's really which ever is closer to me. The beds are so clean and the staff members are amazing. I don't know why but staff makes a tanning salon for me. Rare that all staff members are polite and smart and welcoming. Beds are also amazing. read more

This tanning salon is basically your only option for tanning in Ferndale or North Detroit, but it is a pretty good one. It is a bit pricy, though they occasionally have some decent promotional deals or sales on products. I think I would go here more often if it was a bit cheaper. It is very clean, modern, and pretty large, despite the size of the salon from a street view. Most of the staff is helpful and friendly, I have only run into one or two employees there who are not very welcoming and whom I wouldn't trust giving me advice about my sessions or their products. The owner is very pleasant and helpful. I rarely ever have to wait for a bed here, as they are never super busy, and also have more than one bed at most levels available to their guests. Parking in their back parking lot is usually available as well. read more

This place is garbage and the staff is rude. Also the blonde women with all the tattoos made the experience extremely terrible. I noticed staff acts very stuck up for a salon just getting started!
