I like the concept, the location, and everything looks great. I have had nothing but good experiences with their friendly staff. However, I have been disappointed by the flavors and textures and even though I keep trying I haven't found anything that justifies a third star. Cupcakes - Mostly frosting, and that's okay, because the two cupcakes I tried were a bit dry and didn't have much flavor on their own. Sugar overload for not much enjoyment. Empanadas - The filling wasn't bad but the dough was so greasy I couldn't eat it. I like butter, but I don't want to feel like I'm eating a stick of it for lunch. I do like the clever idea of stamping initials on the tops of them so you don't have to guess at what's inside if you know what the letters stand for. The sweet and savory flavors should have different crusts; the base recipe isn't sweet enough to pair well with fruit. Other things I've tried were underbaked, doughy, and not flavorful. I am a baker myself and I have pretty high standards if I'm going to buy baked goods rather than making them. This place was an unfortunate miss for me. read more

Update 2/13/2016: Krystal replied last night apologizing for not responding earlier (other emails were replied to in mere minutes, but this one received a reply after I posted on Yelp. There could be a rational reason for the delay, but the timing is suspect.) She said she understood their products were not for everyone....I am not quite sure who likes Apple Paczkis with no Apple filling...but I will agree it's only my negative opinion I hold. I will agree with that notion because I'm sure there are people when given a jelly donut from Dunkin Donuts under the guise it's a paczki would respond with, "Yum! Delicious." Krystal said she will refund 50% of my purchase. Yay! Improvement. However, I still can't decide if I would have paid $19 for the order knowing what I know now. +1 Star for some financial compensation. read more

I was introduced to this business through Facebook recommendations during the national "shutdown". I was looking for a some great treats!!! And I definitely got them!!! I have now ordered several times from Zinnia's and I will order several more!!! The cookies, brownies and cinnamon rolls are to DIE for!!! Calling all cupcake lovers of Fort Wayne... Try this place! I am not a seeker of cupcakes like most of friends but I happened to see this shop in the city exchange shop center. I tried the blueberry lemon cupcake with vanilla buttercream icing (good not overly sweet). The cupcake was moist, the lemon and blueberry flavor were excellent complement of each other. I loved it! That says a lot because I am very picky with my cupcakes. They do an excellent job of balancing the flavors, the texture, and consistency! I also really appreciate the helpful and truthfulness of the sales lady ( I should've asked for her name). She's amazing. I feel that most experiences are really influenced by the people that provide the services and she made mine a 5-star! I absolutely adore Zinnia's! Krystal has made my wedding cake, groom's cake, and baby shower cupcakes. I've also tried countless cupcakes, rice crispy treats, macarons, and other various treats. Everything that I have tried is absolutely delicious! Not to mention, Krystal and her mother are two of the sweetest people on the face of the planet! Barb encouraged me to try the Nutella Iced Brownie. It was flavorful. I would definitely try it again. While visiting I witnessed a couple planning their wedding cake. They are at the same location as Cottage Flowers which I guess is much better location. read more

I really like this place. LOVE their savory empanadas. Especially the chorizo kind. I'm not sure if they have a different crust recipe for the various flavors (they all kind of look different), but man. Their savory flavors are great all around. I also love their bread pudding loaves. I think these two things alone keep bringing me back. Their cookies are okay, and I'd say of them all the the dark chocolate sea salt is the best flavor. Haven't tried the cupcakes or the muffins. Saturday is the best day to go because they have more of a selection, including cinnamon rolls and beignets. They talk a lot about their beignets, so I'm assuming it's one of their star menu items? I've had their cinnamon rolls and found them to be a great mix of bready and sweet. Park in back. I went to Zinnia Bakehouse for the first time yesterday, although I drive by there frequently, and live in the neighborhood. Next time I will drive right on by. I am an excellent baker in my own right, but I like trying bakery treats to inspire my own baking. I purchased 1 baklava, and 2 cupcakes (pink zebra and salted caramel). With tax the total was $8. The baklava was the dryest I have EVER eaten, and I have purchased/eaten baklava from a number of places over many years. It was mostly toasted coconut, and a few nuts. It really didn't matter which cupcake I ate (I tasted both) they tasted pretty much the same, like lots of crisco, and very little flavor. The dark chocolate cake was dry, and the filling was soaked into the cake, and not distinguishable (I could see a change in the middle of the cake indicating there must have been some kind of filling). The pink zebra tasted faintly of raspberry, the salted caramel tasted neither of salt, nor caramel. read more

Go there on Saturdays for the Best Beignets you can get in town. Fluffy pillows of yumminess, go early because sadness will ensue if they run out (and they do!). Their empanadas are delicious warmed up and several different flavors, haven't had one I didn't like. I come to Zinnia's at least once a week, if not more! My boyfriend and I are considered regulars now and they know what we want as soon as we step in. They treat us like family and are very kind. We always order tortas with milanesa. They bake their own breads for the tortas and are absolutely delicious. We also get a cookie with our meal which are always fantastic. They also offer cinnamon rolls and beignets on Saturdays. The only downside to this amazing little place is there are only a few parking spots in the back. I will never stop coming! read more

I really wanted to like this bakery but they failed on so many levels I just can't. I ordered a custom cake and asked for it to be ready by 10. Showed up and they said they had me down for a 1:00 pickup and the cake wasn't ready yet. Fine. So I had to take an extra hour out of my two year olds birthday to go back later and get the cake. Went back, and the design I requested (one of their own off of their Facebook page) wasn't anything like the photo. It was clear the decorator rushed and left off a lot of details. Once we got home and cut into the cake, we found out that the strawberry filling we requested and was told was indeed in the cake as not. It was just a plain white cake with buttercream. Absolutely disappointing and will not be returning. read more

Wanted to order a birthday cake for the following evening (approx 30 hours later) and was told they have to be ordered 48 hours in advance. Nice to know they are so flush with business that they can afford to turn away customers (although the place was empty while I was there). Have purchased items there previously with mixed success, but will not bother them EVER again, as I am clearly expecting too much to think they could produce a cake in less than 2 days... read more

We recently ordered our daughter's birthday cake from Zinnia's. She has an egg allergy so the cake was eggless, but it was DELICIOUS! They were kind enough to explain their process of substituting all natural ingredients in place of the eggs, and decorated it to fit with our "fruit" birthday theme. We were so pleasantly surprised by how tasty the cake was and how they were quick to accommodate us. Definitely recommend for custom cake orders! read more
