I cannot begin to express the immense gratitude I feel for this amazing veterinary clinic and all of the truly wonderful people that work there! My journey began about 10 years ago, when a bad medical misdiagnosis on one of my beloved dogs led me to search for a better, high-quality vet (not just some "adequate" place to get the occasional vaccine or a check-up). Somewhere that really cares about me and my pets, follows our journey and understands our needs, and cares about the questions I have and the issues we encounter (even the small ones). This search led me to Zimmvet, a bright and clean, modern facility which offered a great variety of products and services, and had no shortage of veterinarians and technicians consistently operating at the highest level of excellence with the utmost compassion and professionalism. I transferred all of my dogs to Zimmvet and it was the best decision I ever made for them. My dog, Jasper was treated by Dr. Olson for the remainder of his long life, and my younger dog, Ike was treated by Dr. Soderberg. Both dogs got to know (and loved) their doctors (and the rest of the wonderful, outgoing team that always greeted us warmly and made us feel at home). Zimmvet was a little like extended family. When I had to say a painful goodbye recently to my furbaby Ike, I received the most touching and heartfelt card (along with a small personalized keychain) from Zimmvet. The card was one of the sweetest I have ever received in my life, and was signed by the entire staff. This moved me to tears, not just because of the thought and time it took, but because of the genuineness of their compassion; they care deeply about the animals they see and treat and I know that they remembered, cared about, and were attached to and invested in Ike. If you are looking for a veterinarian, this clinic is a "forever home" for any beloved pet. A place of love and countless resources, whereby the staff will always treat you with respect and work hard to look after and treat your animal(s) as their own. Let this be a warning to any other customer looking to try this business - don't walk away, RUN, from this establishment. I WON'T GO BACK! SAVE YOUR MONEY! GO TO KIVISTO IN PRINCETON, MN! **CHECK OUT THE HIDDEN REVIEWS! THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER ONE STAR REVIEWS, ESPECIALLY DUE TO COST AND CARE! THIS IS NOT A GOOD VET CLINIC.** I wasn't going to post my experience but after receiving a letter from the clinic, I think it's good to share. I have been bringing Buddy to ZimmVet for over a year. In the beginning, the visits were just okay: the service was fine, nothing extraordinary, but the prices were astronomical and additional charges were everywhere. I won't speak badly about ZimmVet's service - because it's not horrible, it's just not great! When you're paying an arm and a leg for basic vet services, one would think the service would be top-notch! As a puppy, every visit was at minimum $100 over the estimated price, due to additional charges the clinic would add. We took Buddy to ZimmVet May 29th, 2020 to be groomed. It was at this appointment that we were informed Buddy would need a flu vaccine - which isn't required by ANY other local groomer. We paid the additional $70, on top of the $100 for grooming, so we would comply with their requests. This $70 included the exam fee by the Vet. At the end of the day, Buddy had a so-so groom and we were out $170. (Buddy is a Golden - they SHAVED his butt hair, which looked AWFUL. They barely clipped his nails, to the point that he still clicked and slid on the hardwood floor. I was not impressed.) In September, I called ZimmVet to schedule another groom - hoping this time would be better. I speak to the groomer, who says they'll call me back - but they don't. I call back the next day. They put me on with a groomer who details everything. At this point, I am aware of the flu vaccine but am told that Buddy isn't covered AND that he hasn't had an exam recently, because they can't FIND his exam. (Thankfully, I keep EVERY record.) The vaccine is a series and he didn't have the full series. Well, bullocks, my husband missed that point. I ask about the vaccine and am told it "won't take long", that I'll bring Buddy in and get the vaccine quick and then drop him off at grooming. I ask about the exam again because I have records that Buddy was JUST in, four months ago... They claim that Buddy HAS to be seen by the vet for the vaccine. I work from home, so I scheduled the appointment during the day - under the impression this would be similar to a quick drop off, like I was told. I get to the vet clinic on 10/02/2020, the day of Buddy's grooming appointment. I'm checked in and waiting in the office when the vet tech comes in and starts going through Buddy's records. At this point, she tells me the vet is running behind and will be a while before she can proceed with the exam. I brought up concern with timing. At this point, I ask about the second series of the flu vaccine and whether or not THAT visit will require an exam fee... She says no, but they will charge a technician fee. At this point, I'm frustrated because I have been nickled and dimed by this clinic so many times and I'm at my witts end. I can only laugh, I just see the total climbing, again! This overpriced groom (compared to competitors) has just gone from $100, to over $250 by time you add in all of their visits and fees! I call my husband and ask if we should just leave... I'm so fed up with the additional costs every visit and think we should look elsewhere. He agrees. As I left, I went to the front desk and asked what I needed to do to ensure I never receive ANYTHING from the clinic - I'm done. While my voice wasn't calm, I didn't gesture at staff, threaten their staff or do anything other than ask repeatedly to be removed from their system. I get a letter from the clinic stating that we're no longer allowed, due to "my rude behavior toward staff", that "they don't tolerate abuse or threats in any form." They enclosed Buddy's (incomplete) records, with records missing. I seriously question this clinics organization skills, as well as their management skills since they were SO taken aback by a disappointed customer who didn't do anything other than repeat myself. In the end, Buddy received a way better groom from a local competitor (PetSmart), that included 20 minutes of brushing with a Furminator, at HALF the costs! Oh! I would give zero stars if I could. We drove an hour to this vet because it was "top rated." I was given a quote for our dogs surgery both via email and phone call to confirm the costs. During our appointment the vet said there were two tests that were optional and we kindly declined both. We also had brought in a fecal sample to be tested. As we're checking out we noticed the cost was much higher than what was originally quoted but assumed it was because of the fecal sample that we wanted tested - not a huge deal. Fast forward to a week later we receive an email with our lab results. Not only did they run a test that we declined and did not consent to, they requested that we bring in a fecal sample as one of the levels were higher than normal. Bring in a fecal sample??? You mean the fecal sample that we DID bring in? So I call to clear up any confusion assuming it was a typo and the receptionist (who I handed the fecal sample to) tells me she's not sure what happened to the fecal sample and that they lost it. Are you kidding me?! I asked about the extra charge since we apparently didn't have the fecal sample ran and she explained that they did one of the optional tests instead that we DECLINED. So not only did they run (and charge!) us for a test we declined and didn't consent to, they didn't even run the fecal sample that we brought in as they had "lost" it! We've been in back and forth contact with them and no one has answers for us, we didn't receive a single apology, and they won't own up to any mistakes. All I asked for was a refund for the test that we were told was optional and that we DECLINED and they refuse to own up to their mistake. I also want to add that they "couldn't find" the original estimate that was quoted to us. Well I went head and forwarded it to them and they still made excuses for the extra charge. Please bring your pet elsewhere. If you can't trust this vet with something as simple as a fecal sample, DO NOT trust them with putting your animal under general anesthesia and surgery. It's just not worth it. In response to the business owners comment: This truly is laughable. I really wish there was audio recording in our treatment room because we very clearly verbally declined that test. Also a flat out lie - it was not explained to us as mandatory nor was there any discussion of cost associated with it. This person was also not in the room with us therefore cannot speak on what was and wasn't said. This clinic is in absolute denial and knows they're in the wrong and trying to save face. And why would we decline a fecal sample test when we literally handed it to the vet tech. PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! Seriously yikes. read more

REPLY TO MARIA K : The issue was not with your COVID protocol. The issue was that the very first thing i was told by your staff was a lie, (you want receipts? I'll give them to you) and the way I was 'disregarded' in my initial contact. And also (still) your inappropriate reply to another reviewer. The fact that your reply completely ignored the actual complaint and made it all about COVID protocol shows you either lack reading comprehension or are parroting the initial contempt I experienced in my attempt to get an appointment. Why would your front desk NOT be "made aware" of situations that is basically their job TO know? Were they not there the weeks you WERE allowing in-person visits? Or do they just not give a damn? Since you are the owner of the clinic, it is quite clear to see where your staff gets it from. Keep your platitudes. I will drive 7 hours to go to my last vet (who is literally a god among men and the standard to which it seems you will never even come close to) before I ever trust ZimmVet with the care of my beloveds. This was for an involved issue, one I likely would have several questions regarding. The message on their automated system states they DO allow in-person activity, even in light of the fact an employee there had recently tested positive for COVID-19. HOWEVER, when I called for the appointment, I was told they were only doing curbside service. When I asked if this was because of the shut-down announced the night before, and before I could get out 'or was it regarding the positive case there' - I was told "no, it's *always* been like this" Lie #1 I get COVID-19 is a biotch, and expressed concern that as a new client I was reluctant to hand over my charge to people I did not know and had never met, and asked if there was a timeline or other protocol for when I would be allowed in. "I have no idea" was the curt reply I got. I then asked if they had any advice on if/how I can at least MEET the vet they want me to hand over the most important soul in my life to, sight unseen. I was summarily dismissed with, "No I don't". Okay. it really sounds like I'm bothering you. So sorry. I'm getting the vibe they aren't looking to make clients - especially NEW clients - comfortable with their services. This isn't my first rodeo, and I'm not one to beg, so I thanked her for her time and hung up. Generally they are very good and reasonably priced. However when I tried to order a refill for heart worm protection for my dog from an online source, which was much less expensive, their policy basically prevented me from the online store until I had annual appointment. I understand that this is the best way under normal circumstances, but it is not cost acceptable to me. I have kept my dog under the heart worm medication every month, so there is a very, very low risk with continuing her medication. But in effect, they are sacrificing my dog's well-being by not refilling her heart worm medication when it ran out. They insist on having the annual exam, which is +$200/year, in which I am certain they will find everything in good health. I'd prefer to do the exam every two years, but I need the heart worm medication, so in essence they are putting my dog at risk. I dislike this policy and will look for another vet. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about the whole staff at ZimmVet!! From the time we walked in the door until the time we left, everyone was very helpful and very knowledgeable. Our German Shepard was very sick, but with the help of Dr. Olson and all of the vet techs, he is on his way to better health. I visited the staff at Zimm Vet when my Yorkie Jasper fell ill. Jasper is only two and all of a sudden was experiencing signs of vomiting, diarrhea loss of appetite and suddenly was unable to walk. I immediately brought him in and was seen right away by Dr. Krenz and Vet Tech Ashley who were wonderful. They ran tests which turned out to be Lymes disease. Very sad since I had given Jasper the Lymes shot as well as protecting him with Bravecto. They started him immediately on a pain shot and meds. Within three days he was feeling better. Ashley is so great calling me and communicating to me, as well as being great with Jasper going 100% the extra mile. I would never go anywhere else but Zimm Vet. They put a gouge in my dogs paw and several Nick's on him...I called more than once to get answers. They said they would have the groomer call me and she never did.. We had a bad experience with our senior dog. They did not know next steps in her care to attempt to solve her issues. We had to research and suggest tests etc. The vet did not have an urgency to her condition, which was critical at the time. She was hypoglycemic (glucose 36, should be 100 to 120) and we had to figure it out based on our own research. She was having episodes, we filmed them and showed to them, they said not seizures. She had a seizure the next time. Blue Pearl said this is common in dogs with a glucose of 36, and they suggested it was like this for a long time as it does not just drop this low. They felt that she had a insulin dependent tumor that was the cause. She declined rapidly within 24 hours, had another seizure and could not stand. I called the vet to get her in as we knew it was her time to go. They told me she could not get in until 2 pm, even though she is having seizures. We sat with our girl on the floor all day loving her. Her next seizure was at noon, my husband called back and demanded they fit us in due to her suffering. They made arrangements finally for us to come in at that time. When we got there we were understandably upset. We told them how bad this was and they did not make time for us to bring her in to put to sleep with her suffering and seizures. They apologized and said the person that took my initially call was new and did not know. They were going to tell the owner and educate their staff. The vet that did the procedure also made excuses to us about what Blue Pearl told us which was not helpful. We fully expected the owner, as the office manager/owner to call us to talk with us about this situation as it was traumatizing for us and caused our girl to suffer longer than she needed to. We have moved on to another more compassionate vet for our other 2 dogs. read more

I am not one to write reviews but I had to get this out there somewhere. A couple months ago I was an aspiring vet tech and Zimmvet was kind enough to reach out to me and see if I wanted to shadow someone. Not having much experience I happily obliged. I wanted to see what it was like behind the scenes but to my horror it was nothing like I was expecting. I'm usually one to give the benefit of the doubt but there wasn't much wiggle room. I was out in the reception area when a couple brought in their dog. On his side was a MASSIVE gash, they said his brother had pushed him into a fire pit. They told the doctors to do whatever it takes to help heal him. After bringing him towards the back we kind of just stood in the middle of the back room. It was awkward. Thankfully the wound on the dogs side had clotted and there wasnt and blood dripping. One nurse though it would be a bright idea to spread some kind of goop on the wound. She touched a tender spot and that poor dog screamed bloody murder. It took about three people to get him pinned down and by that point the wound was no longer clotted and there was blood all over the floor. They took the dog and kind of shoved him in a large kennel. Using some paper towels they wiped up the blood. I asked the doctor if they would give the dog some pain killers and she said they had to wait for the go ahead from the parents. I remembered the family saying to do whatever but I didn't work there so I kept my mouth shut. The poor baby was shaking as he laid there. I left about an hour later. Unfortunately the dog had yet to be given any pain medication and the blood spot was never disinfected. So much for wanting to be a vet tech. I was horrified. read more

We visited this vet a few weeks ago because our dog had bumps on her neck. We informed the vet that she had had an allergic reaction to her flea collar and had been itching. She also had 2 other hot spots on her legs. The vet brought her back and cleaned the bump of any hair, and then brought her back, insisting that we have to spend well over a thousand dollars to have the bump and hotspots removed. She did not try to aspirate it or biopsy it, but instead did beat around the bush trying to convince us she had cancer and that the surgery was absolutely needed. Of course she beat around the bush so much that she could never be sued for it, but when it is your pet, and they keep hinting at that, you tend to believe it. Of course, my wife and I are not that stupid, we took the "pre-surgery" anti-biotic and the steroid spray to help the hot spots. She never informed us of the side effects of the spray, which is that she will drink too much water and have to pee every couple of hours. she had many accidents in the house, until we figured it out. I normally don't jump to these types of conclusions, but I have to guess that had I called her, about the accidents, I probably would have been told that we need to bring her in right away for the surgery, because it is getting worse. While we were trying to set some money aside to pay for a surgery, if we needed. Our dog scratched her bumps bad enough to break them open. And we saw yellow puss mixed with blood. We proceeded to bring her to another vet, who was absolutely appalled that our first visit had not had any testing done at all, and informed us that we had brought her to them just in time to save her life. The infection had gotten so bad at that point that it may have spread to her heart and killed her. This second vet flushed her wounds and gave us heavy duty anti-biotic, which has completely resolved all of the issues, at half the cost of the initial Zimmerman visit I might add Moral is, had we only gone to the Zimmerman Vet Clinic, we would have spent well over a thousand dollars that we did not need to or she could have died, neither of which are worth seeing this vet ever again about. After our misfortune of dealing with them, we spoke to a few people who were all overcharged for pointless procedures, a dog that ran away had hundreds of dollars of x-rays, for no reason, as an example. read more

I really wish I didn't have to write a review but I do. We lost our beautiful cat last Thursday March 19. That in itself is really hard to deal with but when we found out why it crushed us. We had been using Zimmvet for almost 2 years since moving to the area. Our cat had been on medications for 5 years prior to that. We found out from zimmvet that an error made last May on our refill was the reason for his decline and ultimately his passing. The refill had an amount of medication 10 times the amount he was supposed to get and it got okd by the vet. So we were basically poisoning our own cat. There were times when this mistake could have been caught but wasn't. At his july appointment when his blood levels had doubled, in August or November when we had him boarded there with the bottle of medication, and in January when we again had the medication refilled. We pray this doesn't happen to anyone else. So if you do use Zimmvet and have medications from them make sure you double and triple check so that this doesn't happen to you. read more

We have boarded our two dogs at the Zimmvet Hotel a number of times, and we are just thrilled with the care our beloved pets have received. Staff is very responsive to any questions or concerns we have had, and they even give a great rundown of how things went. We've also put the dogs into Zimmvet's doggie daycare, and our dogs love it. They are well taken care of and love the workers. There was an instance where one of our dogs needed to be seen by one of the vets, and the we were immediately called and okayed treatment for a minor issue, which was dealt with immediately. The problem was clearly explained to us and we felt very confident in the recommendations for care that was needed. We would not hesitate in recommending Zimmvet, Zimmvet Hotel, or Zimmvet Doggy Daycare to anyone. read more

Had a visit to the vet 2 weeks ago for an ear infection. Today we had a check up and all is well. At both visits the entire staff was very helpful and considerate. The vet, Dr McCulloh, made sure to answer any questions that I had. I did not feel at all rushed. They take time with each patient. Great service, as always. We also love Dr York! I would never bring another animal to this vet. They are all about the money. It's going to cost this, you should do this, we really need to do this, but it will be $$$ more. After I brought my animal there and was charged $420 he was worse 4 days later and had to be put down, for another $80 or they could try something else for $1,000. We see Dr. York, she is a thoughtful, caring, intelligent vet. We followed her from her previous clinic to Zimmvet. I actually bring my Simba up from Texas to her because Vet care is much better in MN then TX and Dr. York has been treating her for Kidney disease for years. We have never written a poor review and really struggled with this, but we are so displeased and disappointed with not only the care our dog received but also the responses we received to our concerns. As a pet hotel we thought that there would be someone on staff at all times or at least someone in close proximity of the facility. We found out that the animals were being left a lone at least 4 hours without anyone in the building and it would take a staff member over an hour to reach the facility so we could pick up our dog. When we voiced our concerns, we were told that their employees have rights to a break. Yes, we agree totally, 15, 30 min or maybe even an hour is acceptable but 4-5 hours? we pointed out that there was no mention in the policy or their website of staff not being at the facility for extended periods of time. Her response, well, you didn't ask. I think this is something that needs to be put on the their website. As a pet Hotel vs. Kennel there is a difference, but I guess we shouldn't have assumed that someone would actually be caring for our dog throughout the day. When we brought our concern of a fire or if the animals got sick, the reply again took us back. She said well, don;t you ever leave your dog alone? We are paying the facility to take care of our dog. Some people have dog doors, neighbors, work at home, but what does that have to do with their facility and care? Second, we also found that NONE of the treats we left for our dog was given to him and his bed was peed on. This facility seemed to care more about just collecting money and giving excuses rather than dealing with the concerns. We are so disappointed, sad and angry at how all this went. We hope that they at least inform future clients that they are not on staff and be more open to hearing the concerns of owners rather than over talk and gives excuses. Very shameful. read more
