I was slightly petrified about going to the periodontist after hearing horror stories about gum grafts from a few of my friends (and what horror is more horrifying than dental horror? srsly). I was skeptical even though Dr. Ziar had ridiculously awesome reviews because hey! Maybe gum grafts are so awful that anyone who doesn't put a meat hook into your jaw is a solid option? Well let me just say that I have never had a dental experience LESS like a horror movie than at Dr. Ziar's office. His staff is just so beyond lovely and he is so patient and kind and willing to explain everything (which, if you're a nerd like me who gets all into how things I don't understand actually work, is awesome). I had my gum graft, which was shockingly not a million dollars, and it was JUST FINE. Like, a few days of ibuprofen and I felt like a normal person with gloriously fixed gums. Like if you told me tomorrow I needed more gum grafts I'd be a little like "who are you and why are you making mouth decisions for me" but otherwise I'd be like whatever, stranger, Dr. Ziar is the champion of periodontics with the gentle fingers of some kind of magical gingiva angel. I was refered by another dentist to Dr. Ziar for my problem. I had a fracture tooth and gum infection with serious bone losses. I was told by another well known surgeon it was impossible and mucg too complicate to operate. Dr. Ziar has saved my gum and fixed my bone loss. He was really patient and extrememly professional. Been going to Dr. Ziar's for over 3 years now. He was recommended to me by an ex-colleague who "handpicked" him out of an entire network of dentists covered by Met Life, based on academic pedigree and *gasp* age. If only I had such skill in security selection! (excuse my string of logic, currently studying) Dr. Ziar performs routine dental cleaning personally and meticulously. He specializes in gum care. I've had periodontal work done 2 years ago, with little to none unease. He was patient in explaining the procedures and I found that helped a lot in knowing what I was getting into. I just love Dr. Ziar. I have panic attacks at the dentist's office during just a routine cleaning so it was with great horror and fear when I learned that I needed gum grafting for my entire mouth!! I had seen another periodontist who made me feel really uncomfortable as he rushed the exam and shoved my questions aside so he could move onto the next patient. I was referred to Dr. Ziar and am so glad that I went to him for a consultation! From beginning to end, he soothed my anxious nerves and calmed my fears. He is an extremely friendly, smart, and caring doctor. He patiently answered all of my questions and addressed all my concerns and drew diagrams of my condition so I could completely understand everything. His office is nice, clean and run very efficiently and his assistant, Linda, is great too! I've had almost all quadrants of my gums grafted and the process is not as horrifying as you'd expect (minus the monster shots and soft food diet after). I really attribute that to Dr. Ziar's magical surgical hands-- he is gentle and guides you through the entire surgery. I'm so grateful that I found such an amazing periodontist!!!! I came here with the hopes of replacing my old dentist (I miss you!) because of an insurance change. Well, needless to say, after I called two weeks earlier to make my apptmt and make sure they took my insurance, I was quite surprised when I got there and the receptionist looked at my insurance card and said. "Oh yeah, we don't take that." Wait....what? Yeah. Not cool. I gave them some SERIOUS stank eye and we settled on $80 for a cleaning (grudgingly). Hey, I had already trekked an hour in from Brooklyn I wasn't about to walk out unless I had to. I have to say though, Dr. Ziar was really quite nice and very thorough. He explained to me to why I had tarter build up on the corner of my teeth due to how I was flossing. He even whipped about a model mouth and showed me exactly how to floss it (with fancy angles and all). Pretty stellar. Sadly I won't be visiting again due to the insurance issue, but had that otherwise been taken care of I would be back for sure. read more

Ziar Dental is literally the very best dental office I've ever been to, and that's saying a lot since I've had many good dentists before in the past. Both Dr. Jeffrey Ziar and Dr. Wei Huang are very laid-back, kind-hearted, and professional. I already had my implant previously installed by another dental surgeon, so I dealt mostly with the sweet Dr. Huang, who performed most of the prevention and cosmetic procedures, although Dr. Ziar did play a major role in determining the best procedure for me by reviewing my X-rays. Dr. Huang is very knowledgeable, patient, easy-going, and was able to answer the million questions that I've asked her, as I was very curious, concerned, and anxious with the pending treatments that were needed to replace two of my missing teeth, which had been a long-term embarrassment. Even email communications with her outside of the office is very easy and convenient. I had my porcelain-fused-to-metal crown (for my missing top front tooth) and my crown bridge (for my missing bottom front tooth), and they look really nice. It's hard to tell them from the real thing unless you're really up close to me and looking inside my mouth, but otherwise they look just like my natural teeth when I talk and smile. I've patiently waited 7 long years in my campaign to improve my smile, starting from the braces 7 years ago all the way to the implants, crown installation, and crown-bridge installation that was just completed yesterday. Dr. Huang helped bring that campaign to a highly successful conclusion, and much earlier than I had anticipated. At the initial rate that it was going, I honestly thought my overall treatment would last a total of 9 to 10 years, but now that the work is completed, I am oh so happy. In terms of costs, their prices are very reasonable and they will work with you on a reasonable payment plan. At first I didn't even want to consider other dentists for my treatments, but chose to take a chance because of a recommendation from a friend and the fact that the other well-known dentists that were referred to me by others were far too expensive. But now seeing the outstanding job that the dentists have done, I have absolutely no regrets. I am so happy that it is finally over now.......Thanks to the professionals at Ziar Dental!! Any treatment that has to do with the oral cavity is very painstaking, as we all need to eat, talk, smile, and face other people on a daily basis. It can be very embarrassing if you have bad teeth. Best Dental Office!!! This may be the the best dental office I have ever been too and I live in Brooklyn. Dr. Ziar is the best. I can see why he was awarded for being one of the best dentists out there. He is informative about what he is going to do and suggest what you should do after he is done. I found them because my hotel was half a mile away. From the phone and front desk to the dental assistant to Dr Ziar himself, it was kind, gentle, warm, and beyond accommodating. Dr. Ziar runs an excellent practice and I would highly recommend him to anyone. - Dr. Ziar took a very long time during my first appointment to explain very carefully the problems I was experiencing, the right solutions, and preventative care. He uses models and X-rays as visuals for his dental care tutorials and was the first dentist to teach me proper brushing technique (I'm 28, and evidently I've been doing it wrong for precisely that long). He answered all of my (many, many) questions patiently and never made me feel rushed. I will need gum grafts this fall, which initially terrified me, but I don't feel any trepidation about the procedure whatsoever anymore after speaking with Dr. Ziar and knowing that I'll be in his skilled hands. I have always secretly assumed that most dentists go into dentistry because of the attendant lifestyle, but I really believe that Dr. Ziar loves what he does. - He and his staff are also incredibly courteous and helpful. I had to cancel an appointment at the last minute because I was sick, and they were very accommodating and kind. - If you want to bring a smile to Dr. Ziar's face, simply ask him about his beloved dog. I have been seeing Dr. Ziar and Dr. Huang for I would say 2 years. I have had other primary dentists before that and I'm glad I found this place! I love the office and the staff very much. I actually do not remember if I came here because of the positive reviews on yelp when searching for a dentist near my office or if it was because I had to do a gum graft procedure and was referred here by my Orthodontist. Anyway, I recommend everyone to come here. Linda is the kindest receptionist you can find. She speaks multiple dialects and fluent in them. One visit with Dr. Ziar was for a gum graft procedure and it was painless. Even the shot was painless. I did not have any infection and my gums look great now. My insurance didn't cover for the full service and I paid out of pocket. When they got reimbursed more from the insurance company, they gave me back a check for the that extra money. I had the regular cleaning done by both Dr. Ziar and Dr. Huang. They both are very laid back and professional. You won't feel traumatized at all after any procedure. For those that are afraid of having pain for cleaning, they offer topical anesthesia to put on your gums so you won't feel a thing during the cleaning process. Recently, I also came in for teeth whitening and Dr. Ziar suggested I get the at home whitening since the in house whitening is too strong for my teeth. Dr. Huang helped me with getting me my custom tray. Basically, they help you do a mold of your teeth and make a tray in house and give you to wear with your whitening solution, which is also customized depending on your teeth. They also gave me some Pronamel toothpaste to help with the sensitivity. I was happy with the service. Teeth whitening is not included by insurance and it costed $200, which I believe is not bad at all for the service provided. Overall, I highly recommend Ziar Dental to everyone. Dr Ziar is so lovely. I had two gum grafts with him (which are not pleasant experiences as there is cutting and stitching) but he was so pleasant and calming. I was even allowed to put on the World Cup and sit back and relax. He asked me many times if I felt pain and was doing ok and he saw me ahead of schedule to get my stitches removed when they were bothering me. so i've been putting of an extraction and well, after eating a bowl of cereal this weekend, it was time to make that appointment and get this thing done! i called dr. shin's office (because, again, she totally rocks the party...and she is my dentist!) and dr. ziar spends a day at her office. so on short notice, he squeezed me in at 8am yesterday to pull this bad boy. 10 shots of novocaine, 3 stitches, minus one tooth and 35 minutes later, i was ready to roll. the most painful part of my day was waiting for my antibiotics to be filled at duane reede around the corner--(the 45 minute wait i had was not the same as the 20 minutes she told me!) i am the opposite of a fan of the dental experience, but this has been my 3rd visit to this office and yet again, it's been nothing short of a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! i'm sore today but that's because i had a tooth pulled...otherwise, they did a bang-up job!!! read more

Super happy I found Dr Ziar through Yelp. Started an extraction and implant process through NYU Dental school back in Dec. Nice students but after many false starts and cancelled appointments I decided could not wait any longer. Found Dr Ziar and they got me in right away for an evaluation and scheduled the bone graft procedure the next day; on a Saturday no less. Dr Ziar was very gentle and I've had minimal discomfort from the bone graft. Procedure itself was a breeze and now on day 2 of healing and feeling relatively ok considering. 2 more steps to the completion of the implant. You'd think that there would be significant savings by using students at NYU; there really isn't. I already lost 6 weeks of time for what would have only been an overall savings of ~10%. I saw Dr Ziar for a gum graft, something I have been putting off for a while. My results were fantastic but more importantly the doctor is an outstanding care provider and meticulous in every aspect of the treatment. He made sure I understood every part of the procedure and took time to explain the treatment to me. I felt almost no pain during and after the surgery...barely felt the numbing shots go in.
