I try to utilize the very latest technology and techniques - but that are well-established and proven by good scientific studies! - to treat these problems 2.) complex spine pathology: spinal tumors, scoliosis and spinal trauma, and sagittal balance problems. Generally, these problems require a more complicated and creative solution to achieve good results 3.) functional pain surgery: sometimes, you cannot safely or reasonably fix the problem facing the patient. Or the patient may have some underlying nerve damage (CRPS, for example) that does not correct with surgery. Spinal cord stimulators (SCS) can be of great help to these patients. 4.) minimally invasive surgery: using advanced retractors, endoscopic and microscopic techniques to alleviate a patient's pain can lead a quicker recovery 5.) brain tumors: such as pituitary tumors, or tumors compressing or invading the brain. Surgery can often help to diagnose and treat these tumors

UPDATE: Horrible experience with Doctor Bonynge. I'd give negative stars if I could. Took me a few…read moreweeks to get my original appt. I finally got in, we sat down &went through everything, I wasn't super comfortable, but I figured I would go ahead and get the epidural shot anyway because I was in excruciating pain & needed it. To get a little personal, I have anxiety when it comes to any medical procedures and I made the doctors aware of the situation so they suggested I get sedation. A week and a half later I finally get in to have my shot done. It was hotter than Hades in that office & was even hotter once you got back in the patient area. The bed they put me in was baking in the sun. It had to be nearly 80° and then they put a warm blanket on me. I sit down and my anxiety rampant. My blood pressure was high. My heart rate was high, and I had a Slightly elevated temperature, which are all symptoms of anxiety. They took my vitals every five minutes in a crowded room with constant beeping a blood pressure cuff going off every minute and then constantly telling me to calm down. As the timer went off every five minutes, I anxiety got worse. My Elevated temperature did go down to 99.4. And if you read the CDC says a fever is considered anything over 100.4. The doctor, then rudely comes over and tells me he cannot continue with the procedure because I must have some sort of infection. And then told me it was not possible to have an elevated temperature from anxiety. I've experienced this numerous times before I have been told by different doctors that it is completely possible to have an elevated temperature due to my anxiety, and I have read numerous studies from medical journals as well as information from the CDC that very clearly states heightened anxiety can cause an increase in temperature. When I explain this, he basically told me I was crazy. It wasn't possible. I have an infection. I have to go home. The minute I get home I take my temperature and it is a cool 98.7°. Just like I said no fever no infection it was caused by my anxiety. I called the office afterwards and ask them if I could reschedule my procedure but with a different doctor and she told me it was against policy and they wouldn't let me do so. After complaining she said she would talk to her supervisor and get back to me by the end of the day or at least the next morning at the latest. No call yet. Unprofessional, beyond ridiculous and I would say never come here and never see this doctor again I'm a little worried that he doesn't know that any of that is actually possible. Makes you wonder what else this doctor doesn't know. Here's a couple articles to enlighten you. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4843908/. https://www.health.com/mind-body/can-stress-cause-fever So after all of this mess and administrator calls me and tells me they will definitely give me a new doctor. They can even move me to a different clinic to have the procedure done and she's gonna see what she can do to get everything expedited and call me back and give her a day or two. Well, it's now been a week and she hasn't called me back clearly they don't care about their patients. I'm going to make sure I file complaints wherever I possibly can't about this place.

My neck turns purple and swells up to the point I can't even hold it up. I have been to physical therapy multiple times and have to see a pain doctor every month. Multiple X-rays, mris, cat scans, nerve tests, and all point to the surgery. No prior neck or back issues before. Dr Patel and his office wouldn't even see me, talk to me, or respond to me after 6 months or so, telling me everything looks great and pushed me off on a pain doctor. The minute I was rolled out the door I felt like I didn't matter. After contacting the administrator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was greeted by an extremely rude phone call with 2 individuals, I was blocked from contacting Patels office, and sent a nasty letter. I have since moved to rush but the damage continues. Ii have since had injections in my lumbar for bulging discs in my lower back and neck, nerve blocks, and now being told I need an implant next. Problems with both shoulders, along with vision problems, and problems turning my head., It was a nightmare from the beginning, I was wide awake in the operating room and he actually asked me if I wanted more sedation. I woke up with cut marks on the palm of my hand bandaged with clear tape. It now appears that I will be suffering with more damage than prior to surgery for the rest of my life.

When did doctors lose their compassion for their patients? After many years of suffering…read moredebilitating back pain, I live everyday at a 9 out of 10 on the pain scale, another physician referred me to Dr. Alpesh Patel. I've done years of physical therapy, and tried everything I could possibly think of only to get much worse. I had visited another spine surgeon at Rush a year prior, who told me my pain was coming from herniated discs, and I would need to do pain injections with an epidural directly into the spine, though she said she didn't think they'd actually work. I went to Dr. Patel hoping for more insight, and brought him a copy of my MRI from Rush. You are seen by a nurse and a doctor in training before you actually see Dr. Patel, and the student doctor is the only one who does an exam. Everyone spends maybe two minutes total with you. By the time Dr. Patel comes in, he's talked to his staff and viewed your MRI outside of the exam room, so he's already made a diagnosis before he's even seen you. He comes in to tell me he thinks the herniated discs are probably just from age (I'm 35), so they likely aren't the root of my pain, and that I probably have a muscle strain somewhere. He never explains where exactly. He's already rushing out the door as he says it. I stop him to ask more questions, as I don't think it explains why I've been in this severe of pain for so long, but he says it's certainly possible. He tells me a nurse will be in to refer me to a pain specialist, and he leaves, basically with me in tears because nothing was answered. I get it, maybe I am not a patient who immediately needs spine surgery, but I am a human being in severe pain. The fact that he never even pretends to care, and rushed me out the door, is unforgivable. I deserved better. Since then, I have gone to an AMAZING surgeon at Illinois Masonic who actually spent a half hour with me listening, caring, and talking about the things he thinks it could be. He has ordered additional tests to be done, and is on top of it. I truly wish I would have gone to him first instead of wasting my time and money with Dr. Patel.

Not only that he was able to find the source of my pain when I thought I was a hypochondriac but he put my mind to rest when he discovered what was wrong with me and causing me debilitating pain through my entire body. They are probably the kindest, gentleness and loveliest people I have probably had the pleasure of being helped by, if not the best at what they do. I strongly recommend them and I am highly nervous of the medical profession. I was given wonderful and delicate care. It has now been 2 weeks and my pain level is about 50% of the level prior to the procedure. Dr Cha indicated I should see additional relief over the next 6 months. Given the severity level of back pain I had experienced for the past 30 years I am very pleased with the results so far. The Doctor and his team were very professional, answered all of my questions, and made me comfortable and confident prior to the procedure. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr Cha to anyone experiencing pain.
