Zephyr is on Miner Street, the heart of downtown Yreka with buildings dating from the 1880s to a few maybe from (maybe) the 1950s. The bookstore/Coffee shop is in one of the former buildings. The food is prepared elsewhere, so some items on the menu may be gone by the time you get there after 12, as I did. Wanting a light lunch, I chose the chicken salad with sesame crackers and an Americano with milk. Both were good; the salad mostly pieces of chicken with a good dressing and the coffee not too strong. I visited Zephyr Books & Coffee in Yreka on 4/23/25. In addition to serving Northbound Coffee Roasters from Mount Shasta, they have a menu of deli foods and baked goods, all are which are made in house. They also have a good selection of used books, as well as brand new books that are region specific. Barista Zach was very friendly and helpful. He made me an excellent Mocha. If I lived in or near Yreka, Zephyr is the kind of place I would become a regular at. Highly Recommended!!! read more

I cannot say enough positive things about this cafe. Delicious fresh pastries (including gluten-free options): check. Non-pastry items like sandwiches and eggs and salads: check. A consistently kind, engaging and genuinely pleasant group of staff members: check, check, check. This is a used book store crammed with hidden gems, and also a lovely cafe and they also have tons of board games for customers to play while they enjoy a drink or while friends peruse the shelves. My whole family adores this cafe - to study, to have a treat, to play games with friends, or just to curl up with a new book, we are so grateful that Zephyr exists! This is the perfect place for folks to stop and rest on a road trip. The coffee and pastries are delicious, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the staff is very friendly. Local goodness found! Driving through on California to Washington and wanted to find a nice local place to hang out for a break. Found this place when looking for tea spot to take a break from the road. What a great find to have coffee/tea AND books! Heaven. The people working there were so nice. They don't officially have iced green tea, but had not issue at all getting me a hot green tea with a cup of ice. Have come across this a few times at tea shops and not all are as accommodating. Thumbs up! My sister and I also got Chocolate Chip cookies. Very nice size and fresh. We hung out for an our after browsing through the books and took home five good selections. $5/book for a good used book. What a deal. Very sad I don't live in the area and can make this my regular haunt. But I have already put it on my list of spots for when I'm in the area. read more

This place has excellent lattes and baked goods! Lots of great gluten free options - I especially love their morning glory muffins! Meanwhile my hubby is a big fan of their London fogs and nut free chocolate chip cookies! The atmosphere is awesome, and it's always fun to look around and see what books are there. Sitting right downtown Yreka, which is in itself an historical district, is this delightful book and coffee shop. Check their hours as they sometimes don't open on Mondays. You can park on the street, or better yet, if you stay at a local motel, you can walk to the coffee shop. Pastries are homebaked, but again, check as they might not bake the day you are in the store. Found this quaint bookstore that also has a coffee bar (with pastries). The barista is extremely polite and attentive. There are sooooo many books in this place, it's going to take a while to check everything out. There is a large drink menu selection here, they also sell some old vinyl and homemade preserves, as well as ground coffee. It's located in a historic looking downtown area in Yreka, CA. Returning from Oregon, we were spending the night in Yreka and looking for a "pick me up" coffee in the afternoon and ended up at Zephyr just before they were closing. The Americano and Lavender Latte were both excellent. Best coffee I have had in a long time, and rivaling the best coffee I have ever had (my wife managed an independent coffee shop when we were first dating and this is on par for sure) In fact, it was so good, that we decided we had to stop there on the way out of town on Saturday morning. The coffee was again fantastic... and later in the day, when I realized I had left my debit card there and was now hundreds of miles away, I called them and they immediately mailed my card back to me. Debbie, Guy, Zapata, and Zephyr have quite a place there, and needless to say, whenever we go to Yreka, we know where to go for coffee...... read more
