My wife and I, right around the time we got married almost 9 years ago had been going to different dental practices for our dental care. The dentist I've been going to was going to retire, and it was right around the time and through a mutual acquaintance at our workplace (we each other met at work), heard of Dr. Zhen Yang's practice on the side of Sam Houston Tollway West, northbound past Bellaire Blvd. Back then, Dr. Yang was the only full time doctor (that we remember seeing), and his wife Dr. Tang, who is also a dentist, was only there some of the time. Immediately I can already notice that Dr. Yang's clinic is taking a more modernized approach in their environment and decoration. The waiting room is pretty spacious and has a TV there for patients to watch while they wait. Whenever I go to doctor's offices, even though I know most of the time I am there for my annual cleaning, feels nice to watch something relaxing and educational at the same time one TV, and Dr. Yang often (not all the time) had nature films playing, which I something I enjoy watching while I wait. When we first started seeing Dr. Yang, we immediately took notice that while he has patients wait in the chairs, there were some movies available to watch on the swiveling monitors he had around the chairs and these were movies that were available on their local network. Perhaps they had just started their practice, we had to do quite a bit of sitting and wait time, and the movies helped. I still remembered it being quite funny that both my wife and I, despite being in different rooms, both chose to watch the movie "The Island (Ewon McGregor and Scarlett Johanssen)" while we waited and both couldn't get through the movie before our services had to start. P. S. We ended up buying the DVD because we both loved the movie so much. The clinic also eventually moved onto showing Netflix to the patients on these monitors* Dr. Yang and Dr. Tang both look to still be in their prime. Both are professional, friendly, attentive and thorough in their examinations. We felt comfortable coming to their clinic after a few visits. Although we were there mostly for our twice a year cleaning and checkups, and before they hired more oral hygienists, Dr. Tang would also chip in to help with the deep cleaning, which she did for my wife a few times, we also stopped in for other reasons. My wife removing a wisdom tooth, I had to get some fillings done on my teeth, which amazingly, after getting them done back in 2010, they are still on and did not once fell off and needed to be redone, and getting nightguards made because I grind my teeth during my sleep (again, well made quality night guards that even after 5 years, even though I put some dents in it, still managed to hold up). That co-worker that had told us to come to check out the clinic moved on to other dental practices after a few visits. But we decided to stay with Dr. Yang's practice because of his craft and dedication to his work. The clinic now has more Doctors and hygienists on board and Dr. Tang has retreated to be more supporting administrative role for the clinic. Dr. Yang really only work during the week days while the other Doctors work the weekends. The clinic can be extremely busy and hard to book. So if you are booking appointments for deep cleaning, you have to book approximately 3 months of your preferred month/date. That's right, can't book too early and not too late. The clinic accepts most dental insurance and accepts cash, and credit cards as form of payment. Give Dr. Yang's clinic a try, you might starting to look forward to your dental visits. read more

Today is the very first time to write Reviews after several visits. First, their office/examine rooms/rest room are always so clean & fill of friendly/smile staffs. Second, they have state of art/modern/advanced equipments for patients Dental needs. Third, Dr. Yang's professional knowledges, art skills, detailed explanation just at front of your computerized screen for patient just like myself to completely see & understanding my Teeth problems & what need do next steps. 1. Their office has modern/advanced " Crown" making machine onsite. Your best quality/beautiful new Crown be ready in your mouth in 2 hours. 2. They use the best quality " Material" for your any Dental needs. I had the same top front tooth chipped out @ other Dental practice then it came out twice in 10 days & 2 weeks apart ( I had to cut Food pieces to put in my Mouth.). Dr. Yang did mine I just eat as usual to bite no cut that Fillings still there more than 2 1/2 years already. 3. I just went back for my bottom two teeth chipped out on corners then even Dental Floss couldn't through it. I can't imagine how did Dr. Yang's Art Skill & best Material to get my Beautiful Teeth & Smile to come back. Everyone knows how terrible the dentist is supposed to be. It's actually gotten to the point that our culture has begrudgingly accepted that every visit should be slow, painful, and embarrassing as the dentist belittles you for not flossing daily (you know, like a normal human being). However, Zen Dental has taken this stereotype and flipped it on its head. The moment you walk in, you are greeted by a kind receptionist and shown to a sort of "private" room with a chair and a tv screen. My particular hygenist asked if there was any immediate concerns with my teeth and talked me through every step (x-rays, cleaning, etc.) before going through with them. She also made some small talk throughout, consistently asking if I was experiencing any discomfort. Although I had been dreading the whole procedure days before, the experience was very calming and comfortable for me. I think part of what have made dental visits awful for me in the past is the condescending, judgemental tone dentists can take when they tell you you have cavities. However at Zen Dental, the dentist did an excellent job of being respectful and understanding, kindly informing me of which areas I should be particularly careful of when brushing. Overall, I associate Zen Dental with dedication to customer comfort, high-quality care, and extremely professional staff. read more

Dr. Jen G and staff at Zen Dental are awesome! I feel cared for and appreciate their dental services. The office is super clean and smells wonderful! I never waited more than 10 minutes after checking in for my appointment. I got my cleaning done, which was thorough and Dr. Jen gave me a very detailed explanation of updates on my teeth. She even went as far as to take snapshots of the teeth she wanted to highlight and I was impressed by the technology they had! They also play Netflix for you while you get the cleaning and give you a pair of sunglasses so the white light doesn't blind you. I also ordered a night guard through Zen. It only took about a week and a half for it to be made, and I was in and out of the office in 15 min when I came to pick it up. Again, Dr. Jen G and staff explained fully how to take care of my night guard, proper handling of it and are alway open to answering my questions. I have tried several dentists and dental clinics and kept getting disappointed at them, until a friend of mine recommended Zen Dental to me - she also got the recommendation from another friend... Drs. Yang and Ge are awesome! Knowledgeable, caring, considerate, outstandingly skilled, and above all, very honest with their clients. I live more than 20 miles away from there, and there are a bunch of dental offices around my house, but I would rather drive that far to have my teeth taken care of at Zen Dental. My dentist is Dr. Gao, but sometimes he's fully booked, so then I stop by Dr. Yang. The service is stellar and you get complimentary floss, brush, and other goodies. My only complaint is that I feel like my teeth haven't been thoroughly cleaned after cleanings. Sure, there is no discomfort, but it doesn't feel like a deep clean, in my opinion. On the other hand, they have Netflix on the monitors! read more

Dr. Yang is the best dentist I've ever met! He will never sell you unnecessary services, instead, he tries best to save your own money and help you utilize your insurance plan. Compared to my past experiences with those who charge unreasonable prices, he is definitely your best choice. My friend and I both did deep cleaning, filling and removed a wisdom tooth. I have been seeing Dr. Yang ever since he first started his practice with Dr. Gao at Allcare Dental in the Welcome Food Center Plaza. When he started his own practice at Zen Dental, I moved along with him. I have only been to the dentist for regular cleanings and check-ups, so I cannot comment on more advanced procedures. The dental practice is located on the second floor of a relatively empty strip along Beltway 8. There are few other businesses located in the same strip, so parking is abundant, unlike the Welcome Food Center Plaza which can get ridiculously crowded. The practice shares the second floor with a yoga studio, but it is extremely easy to find. The waiting room is very tidy and clean. There are magazines, books, and newspapers in both English and Chinese to keep you occupied during the wait. Or, if you prefer, the staff usually has an entertaining and modern film playing on the TV. I've noticed that this has definitely cut down on the amount of noise and fuss children usually make in a dentist's office. The staff who help out at the front desk are extremely nice. It is helpful that together, they are fluent in Chinese, English, and Spanish. They are always extremely cheerful when I walk in and are always able to remember me by name. The wait has never been very long, and soon a nurse/tech leads you to the back where there are is a row of dental chairs set up. There are no individual rooms, but each chair is sectioned off by a wall on one side and a cabinet holding the x-ray machine on the other so privacy is not an issue. For a regular cleaning, a dental assistant first takes a set of x-rays of your teeth. I am not fond of this procedure, particularly at this location. At the previous dentist's office and at my orthodontist's, the x-ray film was flexible and able to fit on the inside of my cheeks (though they are always a little uncomfortable). However, at Zen Dental Care, for some reason, the practice opts to use a hard plastic film holder when taking your x-rays. This hard plastic comes either in a kids size or an adult size. On my first visit, the dental assistant was not sure which one to use on me since the kids size was too small for me, but the adult size was too large to fit inside my cheeks. In the end, she ended up roughly shoving the adult sized plastic inside my mouth. It took a couple of tries to get decent x-rays. Needless to say, I was near tears before the cleaning even started. Since this experience, I have been using the adult size x-ray thing, but my x-rays rarely come out very well. After the x-rays are done, the dental assistant begins the teeth cleaning. Before the procedure, however, you are given a choice of movies to watch on a computer screen they swing out in front of your face. It makes the entire experience a lot better, even though you can't hear anything over the noises the tools make. There is a folder of movies for adults (the selection includes films like "Tropic Thunder") and a folder for children (with movies like "Bolt"); for some reason, the dental assistant always automatically opens the folder for children when I am in the chair! Some dental assistants will talk to you while cleaning your teeth and while you are watching your movie; others will gladly leave you alone. It all depends on who is available that day. After the brushing and polishing comes the flossing. Children under the age of 18 get fluoride afterwards. Finally, the dentist comes for two minutes to look at your x-rays and to consult with the dental assistant on how the cleaning went. Then off he or she (if Dr. Tang is in) goes to the next patient. Not sure how long a dentist spends with his/her patients on average, but I've never spent longer than five minutes with mine. But then again, I have never had any big issues with my teeth. Be aware that this practice is extremely busy. It is almost impossible to get an appointment on the weekends (unless you make it several months in advance), so weekday afternoons are the way to go. Try to make your appointment at least two weeks in advance. All in all, I would recommend this place because of the painlessness of the actual teeth cleaning. Before Dr. Yang moved to this location, I always found it awkward to be looking up at the dental assistant while she's digging around in my mouth. The use of the computer screen with the movies definitely gives me something to do other than twiddle my thumbs and makes it a more enjoyable experience. The plastic x-ray film problem is extremely uncomfortable and is the only significant negative part of my experience here, but if I take a deep breath and bear through the discomfort for two minutes, the rest is smooth sailing from there! read more

By far, one of the best dental office. Very relaxed treatment room ambiance. No wait time and very friendly staff - felt like I'm their only patient. Nice touch with the Netflix offer to help keep your mind off the cleaning and the sunglasses to keep minimize the glare from the light. Unlike my previous dental office, my face and glasses do not get spray with water during the cleaning session. My only complaint was the X-ray. A little discomfort when biting down for the back teeth. Both Dr Ge and her assistant were wonderful - patient and informative. All in all, impeccable service. read more

I saw Dr. Ge last week for tooth cleaning and check-up on my fillings. She's very nice and professional and gave me a lot of useful advice on how to take care of my wisdom teeth cleaning. I was watching Grey's Anatomy throughout the process and nothing discomforting happened. By the way, the nurses at the front desk were also very kind and ready to help you!! For my Chinese fellas who cannot speak English, they speak Mandarin as well. Highly recommend!! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Yang since i was a young child about the age of maybe seven years old. I was his patient when he first began his dental career. When Dr. Yang started his own practice Zen dental, i moved along with him. I come often for regular cleanings and check-ups. Aside from the cleanings I received braces from Dr. Yang and he did a spectacular job. Most people complain about braces and their dentist, but as for me i had no complaints what so ever. If my teeth ever hurt Dr. Yang and his staff made it their mission to fix the problem as soon as possible in order to make sure everything went well for me and it did. I never once was in pain when it came to my braces. Dr. Yang had me out of braces within a year and two months, and while my friends who had a case equal to mine were in braces for about two to three years i was not because I came to Zen Dental Care. Every single time I visit the office i am treated with respect and kindness. The entire staff is full of smiles and very welcoming. The office does a fantastic job at accommodating to any patients needs. For example, in the waiting room there is various amount of entertainment to keep a patient entertained while they wait. There is a computer that way any patient can play games or read online, magazines, books, and newspapers which can be found in either English, Chinese, and Spanish. There is also water in case patients are thirsty and a television that constantly plays different appropriate movies for every age group to enjoy. These accommodations continue when receiving a cleaning, check-up, braces, etc. While in the dental chair one of the staff members will put a movie on the screen that way the patient feels completely comfortable. Also if you are feeling tired or just want to feel a little more comfortable the staff will bring you a pillow and or blanket. The office is very modern and has a harmonious feel. The office is very technological advanced compared to other dental offices. I ve been visiting Zen Dental Care since Dec,2008, my expereiences there have been awesome!!!! I ve had my cavities filled, root canals,crowns and even taken out my wisdom teeth with Dr. Yang. I have not visited a dentist in 10+ yrs before coming to Zen Dental Care... maybe that s why I needed so much work. :-( but mainly because I don t have dental insurance AND the fear of any dental work. On my 1st visit Dr. Yang explained every treatment that I needed in understandable details, pointed out all of my bad teeth from the x-rays and answered all of my neverending questions lol I was very impressed with the patience within him. That had just showed me he is a dentist that truley cares for his patients. After my exam was done, his assistant walked me out to the front where I was greeted by his exceptional office manager, Nancy. She helped me to schedule for my treatment and gave me the prices with a great discount since I don t have insurance. She even called to check on me after I had my crowns & wisdom teeth taken out. It has been about 4yrs since Dr. Yang finished fixing all of my teeth, I still return every 6 months for my regular cleaning and check up.
